Thanks April. Definitely spending time “playing” is an excellent way to learn and feel comfortable with your serger. And if you have questions, send them along. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

Thank you. I have the Babylock Enlighten. so I don't have that foot available to me, but I am going to try these tips provided to see what kind of results I get. I made a pillow one time with a gathered strip on my serger and I thought it looked very pretty. Maybe I will get better results.

Gail, do you know if the Baby Lock shirring foot will work on a Janome serger?
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 3 года назад
Hi Liz, I doubt that a Babylock foot will fit a Janome serger, but you can try it. Bring your machine to a BL dealer and check. Let us know what happens and thanks!

Really enjoyed watching this process Gail. You say "new foot" vs. Standard. Are you using a "Shirring" foot vs. "Ruffling" foot? Thank you!
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 3 года назад
Hi Elizabeth, Yes, I'm referring to the Shirring Foot. It creates beautiful gathers, doesn't it? Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
@elizabethcrist6629
@elizabethcrist6629 3 года назад
@@GailPatriceDesign I see there is a Ruffling foot as well. Have you compared it to the Shirring foot? Thank you!
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 3 года назад
@@elizabethcrist6629 I haven’t compared it to the ruffling foot (which is very cool). I’ll have to look at the sole of the ruffling foot and compare. Thanks!

@@GailPatriceDesign as a new serger owner it would be good to know if each foot is meeting a different need or if any are improvements on the other feet, ie can you do Ruffling and Gathering on one of these feet, and it's one better than the others...?
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 3 года назад
@@elizabethcrist6629 I have lots of Tip Clips on a variety of specialty feet and attachments. Many subscribers own different brands of sergers so my videos present the feet that I own and use. However whether one foot works better than another is often a matter of preference and how the owner uses it. Also, depending on the brand serger, some have limited choices of feet and accessories and the quality varies. There are many variables. I love to present the possibilities and give sewists information to form their own opinions, help them expand their skills and answer questions (my favorite part)! Stay in touch and I’ll be glad to help you. Thanks very much.

Thank you for showing this foot. My husband gave it to me for Christmas. 🎄 I played with it and found that holding my finger behind the foot helped it gather up too. In the instructions in the packet it said you could also use it with ribbon and elastic. I had trouble with elastic - will you figure that out and show us please. (I haven't tried the ribbon yet.) Love your videos! Thanks! 😉
@GailPatriceDesign

Lorri Wall hi Lorri, I haven’t tried elastic either. Will give it a try and let you know what I think. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips and Happy 2020!

How does the shirring ft compare to the ruffling/gathering ft?
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 3 года назад
The shirring foot will gather a single layer of fabric. The "indentation" on the sole of the foot gives even gathers. The gathering foot will let you gather and attach the ruffle to a separate flat piece of fabric all in one step. Here's a link to watch how the gathering foot works: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xUOZaJ7uf68.html. Thanks for watching!

@@GailPatriceDesign I typically use the ruffling/gathering foot because it gives such a nice gather even though I am using it only on one layer of fabric.(the standard foot just does not produce nice results.) I am glad to see this video showing the shirring foot that I can now use. I too dislike pulling up the treads to make more gathers. Great explanations and videos!!
@GailPatriceDesign
@GailPatriceDesign 3 года назад
@@dwiedemann814 You’re very observant! When you look at the gathering foot in profile, you’ll see that same indentation that creates lovely gathering. Stay in touch and thanks again! Happy Earth Day🌎!
