Believe me, I have NEVER thought painting outside was easy: that's why I've done so little of it - light changing five times per minute, wind blowing easel and you over (good to see Basil bracing himself against the wind: 'Dad.... dad.... do we HAVE to be out here while you do this stuff? ' ....), people turning up to peer over your shoulder, and giving you odd looks.... sea coming in and swamping your tootsies; sand blowing over your painting, and sticking; sand-flies committing suicide in your paint .... "Fun" it might be, hard work, it is.
Thanks Robert. It’s funny how some people do think it’s very easy working outdoors! You’re right about all of the things that are against you whilst painting. Then you have to get everything back home 😅 All the best Andrew
Another very enjoyable video. Great spontaneous study especially with the light changing so quickly and battling with the wind. Some nice footage of the the harbour lights and Basil. AII the best.
Brings back many memories! I love to watch your working, Andrew, so thanks for this video. I’ve painted in the identical place when I first started back in the ‘90’s. A little further down towards Loe Bar I was painting one day and before I knew it, the tide almost made off with my box full of paints and gear. So I remember the struggles against the elements too. You’re very brave to fight against that wind!
Wow! That was quite some drama in the sky. Wich you captured very good in your sketch. Could work for beautiful Painting. Merry Xmas and a happy New Year to You and Your Family...and of course Basil.
Loved your sky being painted as the real sky changed so quickly. I had admired that sketchbook so I finally received one that I ordered from England since I couldn't find on here in Oregon. Liking it alot. Great camera work too showing your beautiful beach. thank you!
You have a prodigious work ethic Andrew, out sketching whatever the weather and producing lovely work, you captured the light perfectly. Love your videos, best wishes for Christmas and new year to you and your family and Basil of course.
Fab sketch Andrew… Porthleven is one of my favourite places but I’ve not been there in December. Lovely light & colours which you’ve caught expertly - as always. Have a very Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year. Mick. 😊
Arrived in Porthleven, for Christmas, at about the same time you were painting this. Saw some of your work in one of the local galleries…. very nice. Have a great Christmas.
Hi Andrew ... what a beautiful sunset although abit breezy ... the casein seemed to work really well with this scene ... the colors you used to create an overall glow and especially in the sky ... Basil had the right idea staying low to the ground to stay out of the wind! Have a merry Christmas 🎄
I have had colour blind students in my workshops and they produce excellent work (albeit a little on the yellow side). I wouldn’t worry about what others may think about the colours. Paint in your own way and enjoy it 👍🏻
