As a beginning grazer and pasture cover crop farmer, I have watched, read and listened to a tremendous amount of media in a attempt to learn all I can, as quickly as I can. And this one presentation was the single most informative, succinct and effective lesson that I have found. I see through a Google search that Keith Berns was a school teacher and that is no surprise, given his excellent presentation skills and the quality of the information and the slide show. If you've never been to his website Greencoverseed.com, the Smart Mix calculator alone is worth way more than the time and effort to try it.

Fascinating stuff, great speaker. But forgive me if I suggest something you have already done...make these talks available as podcasts. I enjoy listening to them and watching them on my laptop, but I could make more efficient use of my time listening to them while driving my truck or my tractor. Like I said, if you've already done it, just point the way.

Tip...you can get RU-vid Red for $9/mo and download videos to your smart phone at home or work. That way you can listen to them in the car. I download dozens of videos at a time when I know I'll be spending lots of time driving or going on a trip. Wouldn't do without it. Most valuable $9 spent every month.

I think there are RU-vid-->podcast creators out there, some even free online. RU-vidmp3 dot com?

One factor not mentioned in the soil economy is EDUCATION. Without that, the other components cannot be sustained.

Check your potato famine talking points, Ireland exported food by the tonnes to the brit bank/oligarchs. All the Brits left them was a potato a blight pushed them over the edge

How would you be harvesting and self sustaining with your own seed bank on site? Producing your own cover crop seeds so you didn't have to keep buying them? I'm thinking more so about third world countries and places in Africa that these seeds might not be as readily available or guaranteed year to year.

whos to say. collect what you can when you can and store it in an airtight container

That's what David Brandt does. Then he also sells cover crop mixes. He doesn't say how he does it though. Gabe Brown also. They must have a really versatile combine.

@@joltjumps ok but yall could look up on how to really store variious seeds. Some seeds/grains are more hardy than others. Some preppers know that vacuum sealing seeds will kill them. And many types of seeds only last 2 years. Buying garden seeds every year and keeping them, wherever, for the tough times won't work. I bought marygold seeds and all were dead. It was disappointing. So having a collection of dead seeds, from one pack to another and to another will be such a waste. And a panic to the gardener or farmer.

Two thumbs up for this presentation. Lots of food for thought, and certainly a lot of useful information on a new paradigm to farming into the future. Thank you.

Well...i unfortunately don't agree on his views on welfare systems. 😒 I live in Denmark and the economic system is working great not despite but because of the strong welfare state. But the soil health part of it is great! Actually i look at the carbon economy differently. The organisms and plants don't trade. They care for each other. They are in symbiosis.
