Strange to hear Pletnev talk. When on stage for solo playing he's always a bit odd, walking slowly to the piano as if a bit depressed. Anyway this is a gem and the conclusion of the big fan I am is that he should talk a lot more. Must be great to have such a mastery of music.
I hold Pletnev as a good Russian pianist. I have never seen him except playing the piano. From his teaching here I find that he has an arrogant character. In particular with this Chinese pianist, who has an introverted character and very courteous demeanor, his tone is nagging and scolding, far from any courtesy. He is not the kind of teacher I wish to have.
So wrong He is giving them the best advices for their life. Never arrogant despite the fact they don't get what it's all about. They are stuck in their habits and what they rehearsed in front of the mirror. The difference when he conducts is mesmerising . He is the teacher I wish I could have
YES! Who could forget him? One bar notice and he managed to get his entrance but was not "in the frame of mine" to play the Rachmaninov. In the Tchaikovsky as single late entrance could cost you the competition.
