@@ncstrev i agree. had plex pass for years and have been testing all media software's out there periodically to find one that does the basics well. plex photos is completely non functional. there support doesn't care. you cant add or remove pictures without the database going bonkers. livetv is 3rd place. and movies and music is among the best though. and the only reason to keep plex. just so surprised that no media software's care about photos. when the only option is paid cloud services.
Very helpful! I was thinking about looking for something to use for organizing photos, aside from folders on my TrueNAS server. This should do just what I need.
FYI for anybody who does this. After selecting the first item when batching for playlists and such. You do not need to hit the circle again for every item after the first one. Once selection is enabled click anywhere on the items.
Thanks for being so candid by also sharing negative features even though Plex is a paid sponsor. Hopefully they listen and follow your lead. If you reorganize your photos on hard drive that are already in Plex, does Plex update to reflect new photo location and delete old none existent photos?
i run my plex server on the windows platform. i also have a picture server where i keep my pictures and fam videos. on my plex server i added a network folder and pointed to my picture server. now i should preface this by saying i do have THOUSANDS of photos. but to say that it takes plex a long time to add the photos, it was WEEKS and it still didnt add all of the photos. i love that IDEA of this but i certainly do not like the execution and no longer have photos on my PMS. hopefully at some point they will improve performance so i can actually do some of the functionality you are showing here
I've been using plex for years for my movies/tv but recently have been tackling my photos. I've been using windows tags to tag them and a uniform naming scheme to label each picture (of which there are tens of thousands). Plex is hosting them fine on the website version and we can click to see individual pix on the smart tv but it crashes every single time we click to see a photo on the iPhone. But the tagging - it doesn't take my manually input tags and integrate them into the plex tags. Essentially, it's wanting me to REDO the thousands of photos to retag them all over again inside plex itself. Is there a way to bypass having to manually do this? I know there's auto-tagging with the plex pass but that's still using their tags as the photos are analyzed by a third-party service. I want it to use MY tags that I've already put in the photo before I upload to plex.
I always re-label my photos so that they begin with the Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, Second. So a photo would have a label like this: 2014 08 31 08h34m03. This way the photos all organize themselves in the correct sequence automatically.
Fantastic. I've been messing with alternative to lightroom for my needs as a cloud image tracker and Plex just does it the way I want with easy folder based albums. It's already running so why not throw a couple tb of spinning metal in there and cancel that lightroom sub eh. Boom. Done. Thanks
Hi, I am frustrated with apple photos app on my macs (two of them). I find it frustrating that photos can't be shared amongst the computers. I use plex media server for videos and now exploring displaying the photos on my macs as well. All of the photos reside in the app photo library. I have tried to point to that library in plex, but it does not work. Is there a way to leave the photos where they are and have plex see them? Thanks.
I currently have Next-cloud setup on my UnRaid server in a docker container alongside my Plex docker container. It has been great in automatically storing my iPhone photos. Is there anyway to have Plex photos access next-cloud’s folders?
I imported some of my raw files (exported from DNG to JPG first), where my raw files were shot at ~30MP (6720x4480). I was underwhelmed by the ability of Plex to quickly render the full size image. When traversing images using the next and previous buttons, each full image would take approx. 10s to render, and CPU usage was also spiking to about 30% on my QNAP NAS TS-251+. All images have been analysed and the library has been optimised. I have a wired connection to my NAS and throughput of around 1Gbps, so I was stumped why Plex was taking so long to render the photos. The thumbnails render super fast in the timeline or library view for example. The JPG files are around 20MB each, but as I said, should render pretty much instantaneously. FastStone image viewer is able to traverse the images super fast (like instantly). I thought perhaps I would export my entire photo collection limited to 5MP, as Plex seems to cope much better with this size. Any ideas why Plex is taking so long to render the full size 30MP images?
@@jussper7872 Hi, my solution was merely a workaround. I exported my raw files to a separate directory, and limited the resolution on the exported files to 5MP and saved as JPG. Now the photos render in Plex in under 1-2s, so I'm happy with that. I've got plenty of space on my NAS, so to duplicate and downgrade the photos just for Plex was possible for me, albeit not ideal. Maybe future versions will remedy this performance issue with high resolution files, especially DNG, but I don't have my hopes set too high. Thanks for confirming you also have this issue too.
Thanks for picture/video library management video. But OH NO!! plex just changed the client CHANNEL GUIDE. Sure it's ok for limited number of OTA channels, but with HUNDREDS of channels on FIOS, and few buttons (no numbers) on ROKU & FIRESTICK remotes... I am screwed. PROBLEM? a single unreadable channel number, and half as many channel rows each page because of upper 1/3 of screen. Like you, dependent on PLEX for cable card alternative to energy hungry Verizon FIOS DVR set top boxes. Biggest downside of PLES is forum & support. Now I'm screwed.
If you can caption your photos on Plex, this would be a total replacement for Facebook or whatever. I really don’t want to put something like kid photos in Zuckutus of Borg’s reach.
I know you dont cover alot of crypto but in relation to streaming. Can you do a video on LPT Livepeer token. Its related to streaming validation & transcoding.
