I'm a hardware guy, not software. Thank you so much for actually giving an understandable tutorial on this. It immediately fixed my connection issues. No one was able to view content at full quality because there was no constant direct access even though I would (sometimes) have a green check
@@abinsyr the new fios CR1000. I didn't have the same interface so i had to translate it to where it works for me. I had already given the server a static IP but i didn't know how to do the port forwarding in my router
Exactly how would a VPN and not port forwarding allow me to share with all my friends and family? I do use TwinGate to remote in the few times a year when I’m 900 miles away while visiting the grand kids, and that’s an excellent solution to having full access to both my Synology units and my little Intel NUC running Unraid. Also, I’ve never had someone try to log into my NAS since setting up my original DS1019+ in the spring of 2019. I’m confident that I have a secure setup by simply by following Will’s tutorials at his SpaceRex YT channel.
Hey there: Setup port forwarding, static IP and it shows it's working and green in the plex remote access interface. However when connecting from another device from another network, it's still in non-direct low bandwidth mode, sadly. Strangely, it is a direct connection when using from one device, which is my iPhone 15 pro max (watching on 5G). This is so strange and I've spent half a day trying to get remote access working for friends and family. Hope you have some advice for me!
Occasionally, one of my friends or family will connect indirectly. A quick text to them to power cycle their streaming device and or their local Networking equipment always solves the issue from their end. Most of my people think the idea of having to reboot a streaming device as crazy talk, but those devices are mini computers and not a dumb toaster.
Certainly! Here's a revised version: Thank you for the tutorial. Despite configuring port forwarding, Plex started to work, but upon refreshing the page, it displayed 'Not available outside your network.' I'm using an Orbi connected to a Netgear router. Any insights into what might be causing this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!.
It sounds like you're double NAT'd. You cannot daisy chain two routing devices together. To be sure, please list the name of your ISP along with the model number for both the netgear device and the Orbi. I think Netgear also makes modems and router/modem combos, so I want to be sure what you actually have. Also, how many Orbi units do you have. There's only a few things that block port forwarding. A CGNAT provider and a double NAT situation are usually the likely suspects. Most ISP's that deliver Internet over a coaxial cable to a modem, or fiber to an ONT are not CGNAT providers.
I don't know, you can try me by posting some screenshots of what you're seeing in the Plex Media Server Support Group on Facebook. It's a great group with a hard and fast rule that you can't talk about ANYTHING related to piracy.
Sorry, my Verizon FIOS fiber service still uses IPv4, so I don't have experience with IPv6 yet, but my basic understanding is that IPv6 get's around CGNAT with remote access for Plex.
In myvideo I link to both the Remote Access and the Remote Access Troubleshooting support articles. Near the top of the troubleshooting support article is this link… forums.plex.tv/t/the-basics-of-remote-access-troubleshooting/769517 Before heading there my question would be to ask which ISP you’re using and are they a CGNAT provider? If not, are you using your own router after a required Gateway device from your ISP that is also handling routing functions? If you’re sure that your not using a CGNAT provider and that you’re not in a double NAT situation, I’d check out the forum link next.
@@abinsyr I am in a double-NAT situation and we’re using a modem and router our ISP provides. It’s local so I’ll have to see if I can find out on their website if they’re CGNAT.
Please don't curse me! Lol! I'll never move away from my Verizon Gig fiber connection. Have you followed this support document from your ISP? www.xfinity.com/support/articles/port-forwarding-xfinity-wireless-gateway
I didn't have to spoof a Mac address from an old router when I set up my current Deco Mesh routers, so I don't have any information to show in regards to my MAC address with forwarding Plex's internal port to an external port number.
