Dan Harmon, creator of Community, HarmonQuest, and Rick and Morty, developed a model for storytelling: a simplified circle graph of Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey story structure. Here I show you how I use that Story Circle to rough draft a short story of my own.

It's odd how under the hood the mechanics of a story has the same parts, but the exterior manifests itself in different colors, shapes, and styles. When I got into writing, I wanted to subvert that machinations, and create something entirely new. I remember reading the 'The Road' by Cormac for the first time, and it vague, murky prose held a deep truth like digging in mud with your bare hands and finding shards of sharp glass. But the more I dig in, the more I realize we're just putting our own spin on the same old story told a million times.

Last and most important part of my research story circle method definition is small group of individual sitting in circle , sharing stories, usually from their own experiences or imagination focusing on common theme . Dan Harmon story circle describes structures of story in three acts with eight points, which are called steps . When you have protagonist who will progress through these , you have basic character are bare minimum of story embryo or plot embryo if you will. We appreciate your great efforts as foreigners subscribers as overseas students want to increase our cultural level improve our English language as well. Best wishes for you your dearest ones .

Thanks for this! Was really helpful to hear about it with the sample story. As a person who is very attached to their characters emotionally, i can write hours and hours of just scenes of them interacting and going through adventures. But then I often forget to add the elements you mentioned in the video so the chapters end up becoming not serving any purpose to the story. It's hard to look from outside of my eyes and ask myself what a reader would think of the chapter

I gathered main points about topic you mentioned briefly here it’s first of all i looked up for meanings of titles plot have two meanings firstly secret plan for doing something harmful or illegal, second meaning plan for main story such as movie or literary work . From scratch means from beginning. Dan Harmon ( born in 1973 ) he is American writer , producer, actor . He nominated in two Emmy categories for his part writing academy awards . In 2009 he won Emmy for outstanding animated program as producer Rick and Morty, he also nominated for Hugo award for writing community episode remedial chaos story . He is known as creator and producer of nbc , yahoo, screen sitcom community. He is also creator and host of comedy podcast Harmon town , founder or alternative television network and website channel 101 .

Thanks, this was interesting. Love to read and now trying to write late in life, as in a life full of happenings that want to burst forth as stories, well, writing is difficult. I've tried all of the guidance books, cats, circles, tomato-timers, pants, and plots; only to end up with stories I enjoyed writing but not sure I enjoy reading. As odd as it may sound, interacting with the AI chat thingies has been helpful ... "they" (AI's) know a lot about writing and books but write really poor fiction stories. Definitely would like to know about "treatments."

Speaking of starting late in life, one of my classmates in my Creative Writing grad school program was a 93-year-old woman. She had a memoir she wanted to write, she dedicated herself to learning the craft, and she got it done. She's been an inspiration to me ever since.
