I was thinking about getting the dig dug version but was worried about the monitor being vertical. After your video I won't be wasting my money. Thanks for the informative video. Great work as always and I appreciate what you do.
Literally, every A1U cab that gets reviewed now on day 1 > “The cab looks great!” 2 weeks later > “Let’s replace the monitor and the controls, now we can actually use it.”
@@andfonseb People usly don't mode out the AtGames Legends Ultimate Cabinet or the mini Vertical Cabinet but the pinball cabinet gets a different Reality usly a PC mount to it... in same price range... iircade is 1 000 so just another console..( I have MK2 Midway legacy turned into a Nintendo Cabinet with mini fridge, Big Blue Capcom 💙 had to download a user's update for lagging controls response on my pc to transfer to the Cabinet, have the ( Joust ) Midway legacy needs a Dell E1715S E Series 17'' LED-Backlit LCD Monitor - Black )
I did the monitor swap on the MK30 and it worked perfectly. After seeing these results I purchased a like new boe from a Simpsons cab to put in my Dig Dug. That's not to mention purchasing a Retro530 marquee for it as well. At this point I'm done with Arcade1up until they can release a complete product.
It really is disturbing that after all the money we've shelled out to A1up, over the last several years, they go and slough off a trashy monitor on an unsuspecting customer, like this. I'd do this if I still had decent enough eyesight to make this happens, but that's gone now. I've informed A1up I will no longer be ordering any more of their products because of the return of the TN monitors, especially on top of the staggeringly high prices, which, by the way, or not in line with inflation. Congrats on a successful retrofit, and thanks for keeping us up to date.
with all the videos i see of people swapping out the TN monitors for different models of dell monitors makes me wonder why didn't arcade1up go to dell for their monitors instead on TN.
Great video, Fox. I had the same off-angle viewing issues on my 1st gen iiRcade Dragon's Lair cab. It was horrible. I replaced the original TN 19" with a Dell BOE monitor and now it's gorgeous.
I doubt you will read this 1 year later but thank you for this video. I switched out Centipede, Dig Dug and Joust. All of them look way better now. Even Dig Dug from the far right does not wash out, or barely now. Looks 10 times better. I put the Dig dug towards the left side of The Wall so that no one can see the problem when you're viewing from the left. nearly Perfect now Thank You Ps: on Dig Dug? Just like your video, the menu screen does look washed out. But when I put it on Dig Dug, and let the commercial of Dig Dug so to speak play, it's NOT washed out. Looks very good. Not perfect but looks much better.
Just came back to catch the rest of this. I thought it was over, the last time I watched. Yeah, the only "good" TN monitor, is a DEAD TN monitor. You actually didn't put it out of "it's" misery, you put it out of YOUR misery! LOL ;)
If I did a monitor swap like this on an A1U, I would put the old monitor into the Dell casing, take it to work, set it on the desk and tell my boss to get rid of the POS we've been using. Seriously, our computer at work is plenty modern(nothing super powerful, but running Windows 10 without issue), but I'm fairly positive the LCD monitor we're using was old LONG before CRTs stopped being sold in stores. And since it's only needed for basic office-tier work(bookkeeping, payroll, scheduling, parts orders, etc - we could actually do this on a Raspberry Pi if needed) we sure as hell don't need the kind of display the A1Us need.
I think the question now is what is the best monitor for a vertical orientation?? Either way great video Fox. Appreciate you putting in the time to experiment for us.. I've got the Dig Dug cab and may wait to see what other monitors could be a good swap. Thanks again!
Man this is truly a bummer...i wont be buying DigDug now...and shooting up that fukn monitor is something EVERY arcade1up owner hasnt wanted to do that bought one of these recent arcade1ups....lol
so basically instead of being washed out on the right like the stock, now it is on the left. Would you have done the swap , had you know that is is not as you have expected?
Thanks for the video. Have you identified another monitor that might work better than the Dell used here? Could you swap out the monitor from the previous pac man legacy cab (the yellow one with the coin door sticker) with better results? I have the dig dug variant and that screen is terrible! Thanks!

Obviously way better than it was but you shouldn't have to spend extra money when you spend enough money on a certain cabinet to upgrade it because RK1 up is a bunch of douchebag giving us inferior quality equipment
New channel tagline: “19kfox. The most gunplay (and Loctite) in the home arcade space.” If you go back and scrutinize the panel you used in MK30th, do you see any indications of the washout (maybe at a more extreme angle)?

I have dig dug, golden tee 3d, and mk 30th anniversary monitor swaps to do within the next day or two as all the lcd’s finally came in! I just wish we could get a good 19” IPS monitor (so no off angles for 1-4 player cabs) that can be used vertically or horizontally and classic arcade ratio 4:3. Why isn’t there a company listening???
You should have sent that monitor to Michael B he seems to like TN monitors. He mentions putting the TN in Star wars!🤣 I agree with you fox put it to death! I'll never buy a cabinet with a TN monitor I don't care what it is!
Curious if you tried using the other Dell monitors from your MK30th vid here. While they require the added inverter, do they produce a better result for the vertical layout?
Great job had a question at work I use multiple computers on one screen using a USB switcher is it possible to use the geekworms and run two computers on one monitor and just change out the control panel just a thought great job as always
Would sticking a 3x4 boe monitor which amazingly has zero washout from any angle you look at it make the screen better or will it still cut off the game from the sides?
But the ( shinku hadoken edition arcade1up ) has a good monitor but ( the Joust and Dig Dug) I would say the Midway Legacy it's worth replacing ( 2 or more players on most of list) but Dig Dug or Pac Mania most of it is single player why replace it if you only need a front view 😉...
So when looking for a monitor to swap, is it just the resolution to consider? Do you know of any 17, 19 or 20s that will work directly with gen3 pcbs such as nba, tmnt, or buck?
