PLUMBING QUESTION we all want to know.. WHICH IS RIGHT OR WRONG?
Plumbing basics when doing a kitchen sink waste system.
In this video we ask the plumbing question “do you put the bung on the inside or the outside of the kitchen sink waste trap??”…… many plumbers and diy people do this job but whats the right and whats the wrong way?
Also we attended an emergency plumbing callout to a leak in a customers garage… and a stop tap that wont shut off completely…. So how do we sort it???
As always is Real World Plumbing on my channel

I’ve been self employed now for 20 years and have found out that as much as you look after customers, that time your unavailable, away on holiday and they get someone else you won’t hear from them again, happened a few times now for customers I’d had for years, so now I won’t put off a day out with the family for work.

Great video, actually I never knew they went on the outside as well you learn something new every day, makes sense they go on outside so customer can see them but they still might not have a clue so. Keep up the good work, nice job sorting that spaghetti sink waste out, looks more like it now.

Iteresting to see the bung on the outside. Might there be a chance it could work loose? I fit the bung up into the spigot and when its taken off you can see the bung. Also I use swept elbows when possible for better flow.

Thanks for that, Mark: a tidy couple of jobs. The weird thing about those hose spigots is that all the manufacturers seem to have gone out of their way to provide a bung that fits equally well inside and outside. I think they just like stirring up trouble!

Got a call from 7 customers in a week all in the same mill conversion where the bungs had been fitted on the inside and once the washers started draining they either tripped out or flooded the flat. Had a full day then of going round about 30 new flats sorting them out 😂😂

15:22 been working in Germany as a plumber for the last 8 years now and we’ve been predominantly using press fittings, soldering is unfortunately a thing of the past, what I would say is good practice though is marking the pipe so you know the fittings are on properly and you don’t have to worry that they’ve slipped one way or another

Absolute nice one, MJ. Oooohhh, those ones....relaxing at home, on the move with someone, friends or family, and the phone goes. Nice if not urgent, but when it is, you have to go, like a superhero. Thing is, if it's a repeat customer, someone recommended you, or they got your number off the van, they want something NOW, and if you can't make it, someone else will. But i do like helping when people are in urgent or dire need, you solve it, they're praising you and I try not to smile because it's a job done and you're looking good. Like the double traps, looking lovely compared to the previous mechanical bits. Mechanical ones, they work, they work, fine, but my preference is the traps. The bung question - has to go on the outside for me, for the very reason you said. More likely to be missed inside, I don't see why it's not recommended on the outside. That last job, connecting the feed together without the softener, absolute dream job. So straightforward, sometimes I'm thinking 'what have I missed? What can go wrong?'. Sometimes too smooth to call.👍👍👍

Being a bit of a saddo, I did a little experiment once ie 2 traps vs 1 trap (both mcalpine kits). Customer had complained that smaller sink was draining more slowly after I put 2 traps on. Sure enough it drained 50% quicker when I changed it back to 1 trap. Only reason I could think of was the single overflow hole acts as an airflow inlet/outlet for both sinks. And so doesn't work properly if they both have traps on? Anyway it looks a lot better than the IKEA gubbins. 😂

It's interesting that the dishwasher "bung" has an open end, also a trap for each basin is different from the way it's done here in North America. here you cut the end of the "bung" when you are installing the dishwasher.

Why not just replace the vertical pipe that was leaking as it was, I don't understand what benefit has been achieved for rebuilding the whole thing other than to inflate the bill. Yeah it's not best practice the way it was originally but it would have worked if the leak was just fixed which would have been a 5 minute job

@@MJTiffPlumbing what do you mean you aren't going to answer? You replied and liked your own comment, who does that... Why did you replace all this unnecessary stuff? That's all you have to answer, your reason for replacing all this stuff when there was no need to, why did you do it? The customer had a leak which could have been fixed for 5 quid of parts on 5 minutes, but instead you have replaced 100 quid of parts with god knows how much labour costs for literally 0 reason! You ask people to comment and if you don't like what you hear you either delete the comments or give some bullshit answer, happens every time you post a video. Why do you ask people to comment at all
@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing 4 месяца назад
If you’re paying £100 for 2 traps and a bit of waste pipe you need to find a new merchant mate..🤣 Also yes I like my own comment….. if you knew how RU-vid works you would understand… It’s the fact you made a statement saying I was trying to inflate the price….. If you don’t like me replying to you with the same tone you did your comment then don’t comment or don’t watch, there’s plenty of other channels to choose from, but that fact you say “you do it all the time” you clearly keep watching. I reply to comments properly when they don’t try to accuse me of something I’m not doing. Thanks….👍🏼
