I've had a few of these. When you take the cartidge out of the pressure reducing valve there should be a white dome on the end that you pushed with your thumb. That has come off and is stuck in the non return valve inside the pressure relief valve. If you had looked inside when you removed the pipe you would have seen it. First time it caught me out now I go straight to it.

Great honest work as always. I had an issue a few years ago where a customer had turned off the stopcock to swap over a washing machine and after opening the stopcock, had no water. Turned out that the stopcock had been fitted the wrong way round from day one, but the spring had never shut. To make matters even better, there was no stopcock in the front garden as it had been paved over, the Thames stopcock was seized and the Thames water man couldn't turn off the street as a car was parked over the main valve. To top it all off, there was a consumer unit 2 feet above the stopcock and the stopcock was fitted vertically just under the floor boards.😂 2 minutes later, a soaking wet but at least not electrocuted me, emerges triumphant...😊
@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing 5 месяцев назад
Got there in the end 👍🏼👍🏼
@leon434343
@leon434343 5 месяцев назад
The issue may have been caused by the pipework being wrong... Expansion of water from the cylinder whilst the water is sat static may have caused some back pressure against the pressure reducing valve.. The cold feed to the cylinder should have the check valve with pressure relief but that valve is sat on the balanced cold supply.. Therefore the pressure relief won't operate and the cold and hot supply is able to mix.
@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing 5 месяцев назад
It’s been absolutely fine for 5 years….. then the water stopped overnight. All sorted now as you will see…👍🏼👍🏼
@leon434343
@leon434343 5 месяцев назад
@@MJTiffPlumbing I see you have got water back on... Good job done.. If you take note of the pipework, as in the balanced cold supply and the cold feed to the cylinder, , it is incorrectly piped up.. Potential of hot and cold mixing and the pressure relief valve won't operate due to it being on the wrong pipe.
@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing 5 месяцев назад
Yer I did see that when I was there👍🏼👍🏼…. Main issue was getting the water on
@leon434343
@leon434343 5 месяцев назад
@@MJTiffPlumbing with it being unvented, I'd be concerned that it has 'only' the temperature and pressure relief valve that is operational to the hot water side. With the other relief valve being on the balanced cold only. I'd be advising the customer that it needs correcting as its not been originally fitted to manufactures instructions.

A real head scratcher there Mark. I assume the valve has some kind of safety system that makes it fail to off or shut. As no one wants 6 to 8 par of preasure in a house plumbing. That is probably on the guts inside and has some kind of connection to the valve body maybe some kind of spring. Luckily there were isolation points to make the water shut off easier. Eitherway. Good Job Mark and the customer has the water running again.

Hi Mark.. But the pressure relief with the built in check valve is on the wrong pipe. The balanced cold is passing through the check valve and the pressure relief is on the balanced cold side itself.. The pressure relief is meant to be on the cold feed to the cylinder with the built in check valve to prevent heated water going down the cold. ...
@daveh2435
@daveh2435 5 месяцев назад
Could it have been an airlock in top section of the pipe which was released when you took the pipe off? There is no auto air bleed valve in the top section of pipe, Perhaps tapping the top section of pipe might reveal air in the top section. When you ran the cold water tap in the bathroom sink there didn't seem to be a great deal of water pressure to move an airlock along the pipe

Nice video, Mark, and it's another of them ones. Process of elimination looks at the PRV, it's changed to no avail. Pipework, nothing, power, nothing, and you've gone through what it should make sense with. Then you're faced with what's nerby but should not have anything, that's eliminated. Then youre faced with 'what have I not looked at or done?' and you then go to do something that looks remotely to have anything to do, but you'll do it because you might as well, you're stumped. An then it's EUREKA!! Mate, I do that, then I go and have 5mins of either going through what I've done, or could do. More tie, there is always a solution, just a matter of patience and time. Sometimes, i think on something non-plumbing, and something comes to me. Sometimes, you're so in it, you don't give room in your mind for any unexpected moments, so taking 5 for me at them times helps. Seems somehow the body of the PRV leading past its point was dirty enough to cause the lack of pressure. Certainly learned from your video. I would have thought exactly how you did. 😊😊👍👍

It is an explanation for that , could be same manufacturer, they deliberately making different body parts to make sure you can’t fix it and have to change the whole lot , this new business industry became very greedy and sometimes those tactile valves don’t open fully , better to change for lever valve , but they got those sharkbite gripping on those tactile valves , I’m not fan of them 😂 but heard the rumours they do fail often , because some of them you can open both ways either going left or right if the nut 🔩 which is holding the plastic handle worn off you might be just opening valve partially… even if it’s handle showing fully open

If the customer is going to be build for the complete replacement parts you bought , then why not just replace everything together and save on all the unnecessary time problem solving when it proved once it was all changed it was correct.

Not a plumber but shouldn't you have changed the whole thing ad standard, being as the customer will pay for the whole valve and not just part of it😮

Will he?????……. I can tell you’re not a plumber…… if I only fit the valve he only pays for the valve, if I fit the whole unit he pays for the whole unit. Thanks
