I've used other methods and was unsuccessful but last month I used your method and my goodness my seeds had a root. I highly suggest all watching this video use this method Thanks so much😁
Thank you for sharing your plumerias with us. You have some beautiful colors! I’m growing from seed right now for my first time. I’ve always just done cuttings in the past. I’m hoping to have half the success as you! Happy gardening!
Hello & thank you so much!! For the very 1st time in 10 yrs my plumerias produced seed pods. I waited almost a year until they opened in the plant. With your technique I had a 95% success rate. Incredible!!! Thanks again.
Thank you John! This will be my very first attempt at growing (Green/White) Plumeria from seeds 😃 You've got a wonderful collection, and I hope I have good luck!
John where would I get that fencing? I have looked everywhere.😂.Ive watched about 30 videos, I feel like your method is the best! Ive been so excited about my pod opening. Finally did! TY for any pointers
I leave them outside year-round. Don't let them freeze in winter. The cup holds about 1/4 inch of water so probably water once a week. Less is better than to much.
I have put 6 seeds of california sunset of last summer in the towel...on april 25....and today april 29..only 4 days after I can see small roots....fantastic.. I haven't used peroxid..only water...and put them in small pots. Thanks for your method..
I was leaving for vacation when I did this video but if you leave the seeds in the bags till they get longer roots, 3/4 inch, then all you have to do to remove the seed from the seed casing is rub the seed between your thumb and finger. It pops right out.
I never tried opening the pod but I think it will be better to wait for the pod to finish its cicle, maybe that means they are completely developed and ready to be removed from the pod
White yellow centre is from thailand named lelawadee pronounced lee laa waa dee in thai. Its most beautiful smelling tree on earth when it warm out. You can smell it 20 feet away its my wifes favourite. Ive started growing many types here in uk but the weather is pants 👖so i have to grow in the greenhouse. Great video thanks.
I am going to try this, you made it so easy. I just hope my seeds are not too dry. Mine don't look like yours. They are smaller and more dry. But they opened up on their own. Wish me luck
I'm on day 6 so far and have 80% success rate on 2 different parents and the third parent nothing so far but I'm sure they're just a little slower. May be old seeds but I'm optimistic. Thank you for this video, I'm starting seeds like this from now on unless direct sown. I would love to get a few seeds from your plants, is this possible sir? Have a good one.
We just had our Starlight seed pod open up today. 😀. We have been watching seed pod since around September of 2018. We followed your directions. So very easy. Now we wait for the remainder of seed pod to open and let the seeds that we bagged sprout!!! Such easy directions thank you!!!
I am a retired engineer and really appreciate your presentation. I have one six foot tall Starlight and one five foot tall candy stripe. The candy stripe is two years old from a cutting and has presented me with four seed pods just at the end of summer. Your advise is most helpful.
Hi I have 3 trees planted 15 years ago.. now they are twice as tall as mine.. Arabian variety.. very white flower and yellow... the smell is pure perfume smell like Arabian Jasmin.. would you think this method you showed would will work for other plants and trees?
Most importantly is do not overwater them. I leave them in the cups till spring. Then put them in 1 gallon pots. I use 666 fertilizer for the first 3 years. Then a blooming fertilizer. Very few bloom at 3 years but some will. Continue to fertilize and plant or put in larger pots as needed. I live in FL and the property is flooded at least once a year so I have to keep them in elevated pots tied to lines so they don't blow over.
Thank you so much for sharing. Very helpful. I will share my plants when they are bigger. All 16 of the seeds I started with this method are now in cups!
So my seed pod fell off of my now dead plumeria, she died from Rod during the winter all my fault anyway the seat part is very healthy but I don’t know what to do with it. Should I put it in water and keep it there and see if she opens should I take it out of water and leave her in the air to dry should she be in the sunshine or in just natural light in the kitchen? I just don’t know what to do with her.
Never had that happen and you will probably lose the seeds but I do know of one person that rooted his plumeria in water so maybe give that a try. Check the internet to see if there is any info.
I found the difference by watching your movie again !!! Your shelves are older and you have 8 squares to each row and my newer shelf has 15 squares. Much smaller holes. Problem solved.
Hi John! I received (to Hungary) today my plumeria seeds I ordered. Now I am a bit schocked. The seeds I got dont looks like yours. My seeds are just small like poppy and they dont have this little fluffy sail. So I really dont know how to start the seed planting. :(
@@sutil5078 Haaahahaha not even one piece of that germinated. I also ordered orchieds, 2 kind of banana seeds from different companies, not even one germinated. :(
@@thaifold how many seeds.. how you did it.. maybe you made a mistake.. when in doubt just plant them in good soil, and just give them little water never let them dry just moist, and they will grow.. tell me what you did .. temp.. are they outside, inside.. maybe someone here help you too. Best of luck
I use a west triple pane window in Florida so not a lot of heat transfer through the window. Metered shade would probably be best for single pane windows.
Elma you planted the seeds directly in the potted soil. so no further drying process of the seeds? I know using only water will be fine, that is how nature works anyways.. My question is if you use artificial thing here and there it might give you higher chance of germination but would not that make your investment bigger in the sense that the death of some of them could be due to the fact that some of those seeds were not good and strong ones to start with so you save watering and work on them by using natural means and allowing natural process to weed the weaker ones? I do not know how this can be tested since no one knows which seeds are the weaker which are not in order to perform the experiments, but I think it is an educated guess.
thank you I live in NZ and we're not so tropical. Plumeria doesn't grow on my side but always wanted to find a ways to grow them. so I'm going to give it a go :)
I just got a seed from trademe. Just got it in the post today, actually. Watched this to see how to plant it. We'll see how it fares in south auckland!
i live in Italy and we're not "tropical"... but i got 2 cutting from Thailand 2 years ago and this year i have wonderful flowers!!! I put outside during spring and summer time and inside home during autumn and winter time
I live in New Zealand and have seen massive plumeria plants around and managed to get some cuttings from two different people🙂 also have one that’s grown from a weed and is doing really well.
Spring is the best time so they have longer to grow but you can start them earlier inside. I plant mine whenever the pods open but have a long growing season here in Florida
I really enjoyed the entire video!! Lots of great tips easy to follow. Those different pictures at end so beautiful. Just got 7 tropical sunset seeds definitely have more success with the seed tips.
Not sure if those exact seeds have Bloomed but many have. I got hit hard by hurricane Ian, 20 inches of rain and many broken branches from the wind. No power or water for 9 days and much more work to do to clean up things. Several died or rotted but still have plenty to take care of.
I have triple pane low e windows so you should probably use indirect sunlight they could get to hot in direct sunlight if the heat passes through the window.
This worked great! I got 100% of my seeds to root. One question, what is the hydrogen peroxide for? Does that prevent the seeds from rotting? If so, is it OK to water the plants with the same diluted solution Peeling off the husk was very nerve wracking so half I peeled and half I just planted with the husk. The peeled ones produced "leaves" faster, but all plants made it.
Glad you had great success. The solution is to help with sanitation. I never continued to use it but it shouldn't hurt. The seeds will still rot with to much water.
Hi John. Thank you for this video. Quick question... I'm in New Jersey and just received some seeds. Would now be an ok time to start them (early July)? They'd have a few months outdoors before it gets cold and they'd need to come in.
I have 2 single seed pods from a large tree I inherited not in a T shape. My questions are will the seed still produce being single pods? Do all the seeds from one pod become the same colour tree? With my pods I had to cut from the tree, as I had to remove all branches to transplant tree. They were black when taken off. Will they dry still and produce a tree? Thank you
Single pods seeds will germinate. I had five different flowers from the same seed pod last year. Similar color but different petals. If your seed pod was cose to opening then they will probably germinate. All you can do is try.
I found a pod on my patio today that had just opened and I was able to save all the seeds. I'm going to try this. A couple of questions, how long are the seeds viable, and is it true that the plants grown from seeds may be different from the parent plant?
Not sure how long the seeds are viable but I have planted seeds over a year old with success. Seeds may be very different from the parent plant. I have had white plant seeds flower red also multi color plant seeds flower white.
Hi John, I found your video very informative and with your technic 23 of 25 seeds germinated. Question where did you get your plumerias’ rack/stand. I need one like that. Thanks for your video
Hello, thank you for your video. I am searching where to buy seeds? Some of the sellers seem a bit shady, people say they are receiving non plumeria seeds. Do you sell yours or have recommendations please?
I received the 4 tier greenhouse and the #9 oz cups are too large for the holes. Is there a brand you used that I might buy? I've bought a second, identical, greenhouse to stack on the 4 tier. I really like how they hold my Jiffy trays.
I also bought some small greenhouses that came with smaller holes. I bought 2 x 3 fencing from Lowe's to use as shelves but also built wooden frames with hanging chains so the shelves could be adjusted for height.
@@johnherndon4804 Friday I should have my 6th small greenhouse like the ones you bought. I've started over 300 Plumerias' from seeds now and almost 100% have germinated and are doing great. I went to Home Depot and had absolutely no luck with anything they had to hold the correct size of plastic cups. It looks as if I'll just keep investing in these greenhouses and stack them X2 for each one. One shelf will hold 27 cups and will be great until the plants are too tall for the shelves. Then I'll have to get serious about finding another location.
@@johnherndon4804 thank you. I have a seed pod for the first time ever, but it refuses to open! It’s been almost 7 months! I guess I need to be patient. 😏 Would you post a photo of your DIY greenhouse building ? I love how the cups fit so perfectly! In what state are you located? I am in FL. Thanks for making a great video, without annoying music or too much chatter. You’re a professional!
I sell to local nursery's when they flower, so 3, 5, and 7 gallon mostly. Would have to ship cuttings, seedlings or seeds. You never know what a seedling will become, I have had white plants have red seedlings and multi color plants have white seedlings.
I started with Village Green 4 tier greenhouse. It has the square wire frames. Then I built wood frames to suspend chain and hang 2 x3 fencing I bought at Lowe's.
@@johnherndon4804 Just found one at Target. Thanks. The price is great. I need one for the squirrels. They keep digging up any and all seeds I plant. One last question... what size of cups are you using to fit those square holes? Thanks for the quick reply. Michael in Sunny Orlando.
I noticed a pod on my plant and didn’t know what it was until my neighbor told me. I didn’t know I had to wait until the pod opened on it own. Can they will be germinated if I cut them to early?
You have some outstanding plumerias. Do you sell cuttings? I tried some seeds doing the same method but I got them too wet and lost them all. Going to try this way, thanks for sharing!
