I’d love to hear your experiences! How has shopping changed for you over the last few years?
@Soulbirdami

Omg sizing? Ugh. I'm from the Caribbean so 100% of my clothing is purchased online. The variations in sizing is maddening. Then add in my specific dimensions being hourglass but having big arms, so tops that fit my torso will not fit my arms... just stress. Then even when dimensions are used to gauge fit, the cut of some items is not as expected. In the past year or so I default to Eloquii for good pieces but the prices are🔥 when USD is essentially $1 to our $3. I just wish more cost effective options were available, especially with fabrics that ideal for all climates.

Things in fashion are cyclical, so I'm not surprised that brands change. They follow public opinion. Never forget that brands are trying to make money. If the public is into weight loss and looking thinner, that is where brands will put their money. Don't be angry at a zebra for showing its stripes. A company will never go against what is making money at the moment. It's may not be right but once you know that you are never surprised.

It would be great if you started a real plus size line! I know a lot of plus size stores stop at size 20 or 3x and I know many women who need bigger sizes!

Hi I’m a man here and can we talk about DXL basically predatory lending toward big and tall men with their pricing? That needs to be studied. It is sad how much their clothes cost.
@zenobiaw831
@zenobiaw831 22 дня назад
Compared to plus sized women, larger men have nearly nowhere to shop BUT DXL. My husband even has to go there for socks, because very few places offer anything big enough. They are incredibly expensive and stinky. They have monopoly on big and tall and it's really a tragedy.

Plus sized fashion is changing but it has never really been great if ur the, 'wrong kinda plus'...aka apple shaped. If u look at the cut of most plus clothes...they are geared toward pear shaped ppl. Small tops...big bottom. Especially shirts

I'm headed towards 50. When I was younger there were hardly any places for me to shop as a young woman and of course online shopping didn't exist at all!! Personally I love online shopping and I have been able to find my size and the clothes I want to wear for work, going out, casual, going to church and athletic wear. Plus size is definitely more expensive but it's par for the course.

I'm much older than you - I'm 53. In the past there was Lane Bryant and nothing else. There are so many options now compared to the 80s or 90s. True, a lot is not in store and I agree with you that it should be, but for women my age, we have this huge number of options now.

My cousin is plus size 18/20. She shops at target, Nordstrom’s, Macys, banana, loft old navy, Walmart, gap etc regular stores she does like torrid etc but she’s also shopping boutique brands like Judy blue jeans etc she shops both in stores and online. I will say online is easier to shop of course.

Ugh!!! I feel you! Torrid needs to really expand their thinking. Not everyone shopping there is in a younger demographic. I have found some very cute pieces there, but it's not somewhere I automatically go to for clothing. I am 47YO...I don't want to look like a floral couch or wear clothing with skulls on it. 🙄

I used to work for a niche Plus Size company in corporate marketing. My desk was right outside our photo studios and models would walk by all day. I believe your model friends aren’t able to book as much because the plus size modeling industry is too saturated. Back in 2012, Plus size models were only size 10, maybe 12. Now I see models that I never thought would be outside of the plus size fashion blogger space. Although it’s nice to see more bodies, it means the market is more competitive.
@Jennifer_Lewis_Beach_Living

It was also like that in the 1990s and 2000s regarding “plus size” modeling. Emme and Sophie Dahl were “plus size” supermodels in the 1990s, and they were both a size 12 (which is a size 10 in today’s sizing) and nearly 6 foot tall.
@Jennifer_Lewis_Beach_Living
@Jennifer_Lewis_Beach_Living 21 день назад
Also wanted to add that you are correct. The plus-size modeling industry is oversaturated, so brands are going to get very selective on who they choose. I do see a trend of going BACK to what it was in the past where they’re choosing plus-size models that are smaller (size 14-16) or women who aren’t even plus size (size 10-12).

I grew up fat and remember having almost no options. As I got older it was Lane Bryant, Avenue, & Catherines which tended to age me as a young adult but by that time I was just happy if clothing fit. When I started seeing plus size influencers wearing all these clothes it was exciting! I've bought clothes from a few of the popular places (rebdolls, old navy, shein etc) and overall it's been a very lack luster experience. The fit is very hit or miss and I realized most of the influencers were not shaped like me. The quality of the clothing sucked. Most of the clothing in my closet that I've worn over and over b/c they fit and are not falling apart are from some of the tried and true plus size stores. I've been losing weight so I need new clothing and I went to Target. I found one flowy dress I liked but they had like 2-3 bottoms in a 2/3x in the store. It feels like if I want to find clothes that fit AND are fashionable I need to have a lot of money to spend and a tailor OR I need to be a different size/body shape. It's frustrating. I went on a lil mini vacay last month and needed a bathing suit and a cover up. I was so hesitant to buy online b/c I didn't want to deal with returning it if it didn't fit but there are limited options in stores. I decided to shop on Amazon after watching an influencer who was similar to my body shape doing a swimsuit haul. I bought the suit and wasn't thrilled with the fit but it worked, I bought a cover up and the same thing- it was way too big even though I went by the measurements but I kept it b/c I was out of time to order something else. I've worn the swimsuit about 3x and one of the straps is already coming apart. The experience of clothing my body as a plus size woman is just never satisfactory.

Unfortunately, Ozempic has changed the plus size industry. It will have a negative impact on the food, clothing and gym industry. I read an article, can’t remember the name, it mentioned how it effects their profits. It also predicted an increase in cosmetic surgery due to the massive weight lost. But don’t worry, once people stop taking it, their weight will increase and plus size lines will return. Give it a few years.

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head with this! I struggle with this when it comes to places like Rebdolls, Eloquii, etc. I remember when I had my boutique and attended an expo focused on plus-size and curvy people. That’s the first time I saw Dollskill and fell in love. But now, Dollskill’s plus-size options are so limited. Rebdolls is expensive, even their sales feel overpriced. It seems like they overprice items and then put them on sale at what should have been the regular price. Eloquii is always sold out, as are Time and Tru, Ava & Viv, etc. It’s such a struggle. The ending of your video was encouraging, but it really seems like it has gotten harder rather than easier, especially for extended sizes.

Plus size fashion is not dead. You've changed. I still see influencers having big followings. Some of these NEW fashion brands are not doing what you want them to do but Ozempic is a trend and not that affordable. Surgery is also. So fat people will be around and the kind of clothes we buy will be up to us and not posting uneducated titles like Plus Size Fashion is Dead.

just because she’s changed her content doesn’t mean this isn’t true. I shop stores that have less selection now in plus size or I have to go online instead of store. Also my favorite creators are still working but that doesn’t change the problem representation as a whole industry
