You might remember some older toy companies like Kellytoy and Toy Network but have you seen the products they never released? Let's revisit some plushes and figures that have been discovered but were never found.
This was awesome. Definitely will. Also, here’s something odd: I know of a peice of lost media I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else mention: an animation associated with DidYouKnowGaming, and Hidden Block. I’ve been wanting to make a post about this on the Lost Media Wiki, or ask in the forums for a while now, but I’ve always been shy and afraid to ask how it works. I can describe the animation in tons of depth, and even did some sketches based on my memory of it. Hopefully I may be able to get some advice on how to go about posting this on LMW but for now, I’ll leave a simple summary here: It was a 2d animation I watched on RU-vid in the mid 2010s, that was a parody of DidYouKnowGaming’s videos. In it, a talking animal (some kind of anthropomorphic reptile or dragon, based on my memory) was telling the viewers obviously wrong game information. The reptile/dragon was voiced by one of the members of Hidden Block network (the same studio DidYouKnowGaming is in). I don’t remember for sure, but it was either Jimmy Whetzel, or Yungtown. The voice acting was very cartoonish old man voice, seemingly made to joke / parody DYKG’s typical videos, perhaps as some lighthearted humor between these RU-vidrs. The reason the reptile/dragon got his facts wrong, was because he was very old (represented by the reptile having lots of wrinkles on him). Honestly I’ve been searching for this animation for so long, every since I tried to find it again and saw it had vanished. Because of the silly voice acting I couldn’t remember if it was Yungtown or Jimmy who did the voice, so I actually sent a Twitter DM to them both, explaining my story and asking if they remember this / can help it be found again, but they didn’t respond to me, which I did kinda expect considering I’m a low follower count, random stranger and they probably get lots of DMs.
Have you ever come across or think you remember a show that your not sure exists? I was a asd adhd kid, I was watching TV religiously in the early 2000s I was born in 96. I know I saw this show on mtv or mtv2. The show was a very graphic animation. It was 2 stoner like dudes kind of like bevis and butthead. But they did stunts, that always ended badly. It was very gorey. I remembered being terrified as a kid. But it played it off for laughs. There were some pretty weird experimental shows back then. That lasted all of 2 seconds. I seem to be the only person I know who remembers Rave Master's and Wulin Warriors which was a fever dream in of itself that turned out to be real. So let me be real , real quick. I was on meds growing up. Risperdal which apparently fucked with my memory. In tandom with Trileptal and Adderall. And if it was real. And it did scare me. I probably even tried to forget it. I'm not sure if it was claymation or puppets or Dolls. But I know it was weird and realistic. They were like kids doing stupid stunts in a neighborhood. The gore always looks weirdly real like they used fake blood instead or animating clay. I remember one where they both ended up getting impaled on spikes. Like wooden pikes idk if it was a fence 🤔. Which I could find this. That's all the memory I have of it really. Right question might help otherwise I got nothing. I just was confirmation real or not real. I can't find anyone who's heard of it or remembers anything.
Lost Media - Fat Blue Sky (Television Show). Aired around 2007 on CBC and the X-Treme channel. Adventure sport, following a bunch of skateboarders, BMX riders, mountain bikers, surfers and so on. Tons of personality, notable controversy, only two known references that I can find.
@theyoshifan10 I studied "Information Science". Research (real research) is what I do. Spoke with a CBC rep this morning, and got another contact. Hopefully they'll connect me to a fellow archivist, and my curiosity will be sated.
I'll be seeking out "The Morgan Waters Show" and "Yam Roll" next. I have a rare signed print, received from the studio when Yam Roll originally aired, as I was one of the small number of people who enjoyed it and entered a contest. Following those, I'll be seeking out "Good Morning World", which has a very limited amount of found material.
I’m in deep with my addiction to Squishmallows. The only other plushes i bought with this much zeal were the original PillowPets and vintage CareBears. It’s slightly embarrassing to be a 29 year old who loves Squishmallows.
As someone who sometimes sorts through donations, I'm almost certain a lot of Really Cool Thrift Shop Items come from people who have died. A grieving family who may not be aware of the value of the belongings or are just too deep in sorrow to care will mass donate entire priceless collections to thrift stores or libraries. To put it in perspective how little some grieving families pay attention to what they're donating, on multiple occasions I have found VHS home movies (once a family bible!) in donation piles. Only once or twice was I able to find who donated it, but when I did, it was from a dead relative
Ok on the topic of prototypes. There's these weird bendable Invader Zim toy thingies from 2019-ish and the only figures made were Zim and Dib (I have them both). For some reason I was looking them up on Google and found pictures of the prototypes at some kind of Toy Fair. But what stuck out to me the most is that there was also a Gaz figure, which obviously was never released. I've never heard anyone else talk about this before and I'm curious to know why she got cancelled. I also wonder why there was no GIR as he's the most marketable character of the show
I worked at a toy company for a couple years. I think most of our prototypes ended up in someone’s desk drawer to be forgotten about until they left and threw everything out.
Imagine if the real reason why we didn't get the Cheese plush was because the SEGA rep who came to approve the Sonic plush samples couldn't find it due to incorrect placement.
I had a pretty decent amount of Sonic shirts back then. Mostly the mid 2000's style modern design. That colorful nostalgic design you see in Sonic Advance and such. And yeah I didn't realize until this video. You really don't see those videogame shirts from back then around anymore. I barely even remember the ones i had before, but I wore them to school and others did too. It's a pretty wild realization.
I have one of the weird seasonal sonic plushes, but when I looked for it online I found no similar pictures. Mine is an Amy wearing a pink dress with a white pattern on it and is holding a long pink and purple flower that says "happy easter" on it. I got it at a church sale many years ago and I couldn't find any other ones
My brain might be remembering incorrectly but I could’ve sworn I saw the Chowder, Schnitzel, and Mung or whatever his name is at the OC fair. I remember being pretty young and wanting it but my parents didn’t want to waste money. I wonder if looking through popular fairs or something of the sort would help solve some of these missing plush mysteries
Tbh, when I saw the pictures of the plushies, I swear I've seen em at Town and Country Days wayyy back. They just seemed rly familiar, specifically the Panini. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong lol.
My favourite thing is bratz prototypes for dolls that were intended to be released but never made it to mass process, like the in box babyz felicia that was found last year or someone that found a costume party Ashley at a warehouse sale in China this year. Or how images of the inbox mattel prototypes for bratz recently surfaced, we thought that had just made heads that had surfaced on eBay and had never finished the dolls or even made bodies, but images of what the full dolls would have looked like were found. Glad mattel didn't get bratz in the end lmao
That Cheese plush looks pretty nice. I have a rare Chao plush myself, supposedly it was a prize from some gaming competition? That's what my mom told me, and that there were only 6 I believe. I'll look for the plush itself soon, I had it in my basement and lost track of it... I know that's irresponsible. My mom got it from China, I would guess around 2004 because I was hyperfixated on SA2B and somewhere around 10 years old.
@@megadong2398 sorry I wasn't getting notified of comments. I think my mom may have gotten some details wrong because I did a reverse image search and it seems to just be the standard (but rare) Sonic X Cheese Chao. There's one for sale on ebay for $289 USD. Mine doesn't have it's paper tag (but does have the sewn in tag). I know it's rare but I gave it to my kid who also loves Chao.
When I was a kid, toy prototypes were made first, then they'd try to made a cartoon based around the merch. Maybe arcade games couldn't work that way too. Used to collect plushies decades ago, but they took up so much space I had to switch to keychains & vintage christmas ornaments. Kinda interested to hear more about those bootleg handheld devices. Popstations & scrapped prototype consoles are interesting. Bootleg toys are also really interesting because it's fun to figure out what company's moulds the knockoffs are made from.
I worked in Electronics Boutique in the UK at the begining of the 2000's. I have a few promo t shirts, one from the game Donkey Kong Country and one from the Game Boy Advance console. I also had one for Pokemon Crystal with the Unknown pokemon spelling out something on the back, one for the original X box console and one for Elderscrolls 3 Morrowind. I wish I knew what happened to them because I'd like to have them now but glad I still at least have a couple.
I remember seeing some Sonic the Hedgehog T-Shirts at Walmart over a decade ago, & a decade before that, Sonic shoes at Payless. Have you seen video game themed school supplies? I definitely remember Sonic on folders & Trapper Keepers in the 90s. Just noticed you have a Jotaro standing next to a Part 1 Lupin III in your room. Wish I could afford to collect Jigens & Medicos Jojos.
I've actually seen that Chowder plush in a claw machine before. I'm pretty sure I actually have that Mung Daal plush, I will post a picture online if I find it.
I never watch anything like this so idk why it showed up but I find it so interesting. I was really poor growing up so I rarely got to play many video games or watch cartoons but the few times I did get to enjoy those things are some of the best memories of my childhood. I wish I could have gotten into stuff as much as other people did bc it feels like I'm always missing out when people talk about their childhoods or stuff they used to love.
I want to find a short I saw when I was a kid in late 90's early 00's. I watched it on a channel called LOCOMOTION (I don't know if it was a channel just here in Latin America or if it was an international version of other network). That channel used to stream content mostly for young adults. There was a segment that aired mostly near midnight called LOCOTOMIA that showed short films and animations. The short I'm talking about was in "clay motion" (it reminds me now that chicken movie made in this format) and I recall it was about a society in which everyone does what they're supposed to: everyone goes to work at the same place, everyone goes shopping at the same place, etc. At some point the main character notices a window and is unable to see what's "outside". After various days of walking by that window with the rest of the people at the same time, the main character takes a peek out of that window and goes through it and ends up "outside" where there's a beautiful sight of a sky full of stars. Then he looks back at the window and sees how all the people inside goes from one side to another at the same time and at the same rhythm. The short ends here. The whole short had no dialog, only sound effects when needed, like people walking, working and being at home. I remember being a kid and thinking that some of the shorts that aired in that segment (LOCOTOMIA) used to be so long but I guess that being a kid enjoying some TV made me think they were long. I remember this short in particular because it meant so much to me at a young age to get a message like that: DARE TO GO OUTSIDE. It defined my way of thinking from there to the present day and I will carry that message with me for the rest of my life.
I did some research on LOCOMOTION. I found out that LOCOMOTION was owned by Hearst Publishing. So, I looked for science fiction magazines thinking that it was some kind of science fiction that was published in a Hearst-owned magazine and was produced on the cheap to take advantage of the rights, but I went to Wikipedia's list of science fiction magazines, which helpfully came in a table that listed "publisher" and Hearst wasn't listed. So, I wondered if this wasn't an adaptation of an SF short story, which was my first thought, but rather some kind of short with a message about conformity. The main issue is that the lack of dialogue means I can't tell what the country of origin was. I began to think of Don Hertzfeldt, but it's not him. For one, he doesn't do Claymation and two, he would have been a bit young at the time. I was assuming that the short was American, but for all I know it could have been from Latin America, or even Europe.
the silver sega mcdonalds toys are probably so hard to come by since they are fast food toys. people usually dont keep them for extended amounts of time and just see them as a thing to keep their kids busy after they eat.
Photo shown of all the plushes indicate approval samples and production samples. An approve sample is the sample that the customer signs off-on. A production sample are usually a grouping of items production line to be reviewed against the approval sample.
A case that interests me is one that happened fairly recently, and that is the prototypes of unreleased Beatrix Girls dolls. They planned country tour and red carpet doll lines before becoming bankrupt and no one knows what became of the prototypes. As a huge fan of the dolls, it's my dream to have one of the prototypes but I know it will never happen. Lol.
The one about graphic shirts I can relate to but for bands. I love seeing various designs from bands I listen to and any concert I go to I make sure to get at least one shirt, and it makes me think how valued these shirts are gonna be ~30 years from now. Idk its a weird fascination I have
Whilst we’re on the topic of lost and obscure merch for things, my family own a garden statue of Kermit the frog sitting on a rock, we can’t seem to find any info and we’ve only found a couple of pictures of it. The actual Kermit is made of ceramic. We got him around 2001 at a garden centre down in the south end of the uk.
Man this stuff is really fascinating. I always hunt around the toy booths at antique stores for anything interesting and now I'm wondering if I may have ever run across a rare toy without realizing...
I used to see Terraria figures at target and Walmart when I was little, but now that I think about it, I haven’t seen them in stores for years and I wonder why they just stopped stocking them
i really like that you made a video covering apparel merchandise! i collect alice in wonderland merch, but the tim burton version is the only apparel i really enjoy, and its hard to find archives of what was actually sold! i think apparel is not as popular for people to collect since its a super complex market, but i'd love to hear more on the topic!
There are a few things from the Valve store I kick myself for not buying when they were available, like the official left 4 dead merch and the headcrab hat
The Tegami Bachi Limited stuff are insane. Not only physical stuff, but also stuff that involves getting physical items to receive other goodies such as Wallpapers, Voice Samples and Other Items. I Own a Niche Mini Plush you could Only get from crane games in Japan, the set also includes lag and steak, but I only have Niche so far.
For the Metroid figure, the first thing I thought of was that it might be a garage kit? Which is basically a ‘make your own’ figure sculpted by independent artists and have very limited numbers. Since it’s a figure you have to build and paint yourself, it makes sense for the figure to not be actually shown as one put all together? Or to be only shown as sample art I’m not sure why it would be cancelled though, even if it was a garage kit. Maybe the artist didn’t want to distribute it or something happened to the original version???
I kept trying to bully O'Hare off of my island. Guess who never left and gave my his photo in record time? Guess who keeps popping back up? GUESS WHO APPEARED IN A VIDEO TO TAUNT ME, ALL THESE YEARS LATER????
Though not necessarily video game t-shirts, i can also relate to "lost" t-shirts. Quite a while back (im guessing @2013?) I bought 2 limited edition t-shirts of 1 of my fav rappers: Chamillionaire. There were 2 colors: black and white. And i had such a hard time choosing between those 2 i eventually bought both of them. Well.. Good thing i did, because now you cant find them anywhere online anymore, as if they never existed (Mine are still both in excellent condition, and i use them mostly for special occasions)
The ed edd n eddy plush's sold for 1000 on ebay a couple days ago I'm guessing the buyer was new to the site because I was offered it for around 600 but I didn't buy it because I don't have any extra spending money at the moment
No More Heroes is one of my favorite games of all time I'd love to get ahold of the shirts or the cool watches that were sold in Japan during the release of No More Heroes 3.
Honestly i constently buy funny looking merchandise based off a game or such from the charity shop or from the gaming stall in the mall near me because i just like owning the funny plushies. However i absolutely love just owning game based plushies to be honest. I still cant get over how weird tom nook looks in plush form right now uts amazing
prototypes are meant to never be see by us. they are like the person who creates something rad and useful in his 3d printer but keeps it to himself because he thinks everyone will make fun of it or not like it.
Are there any Camp Lazlo plushes from Kellytoy? There are characters like Lazlo, Raj, Clam, Scoutmaster Lumpus, Slinkman, Deputy Doodle Doo, Chip, Skip and Patsy Smiles
I have some kinda rare Spyro plushes with a pirate hat and a vampire outfit. Once upon a time I had one with a charity dish (for collecting money) on the way but that was many years ago and it never arrived. I’m not sure why they made these promo plushies. I heard/vaguely remember from the listing descriptions that they were made from employees and various events? I never heard info about them anywhere else online. I collected them when I was a kid, this was over a decade ago by now so unfortunately my memory of it is awful. They weren’t cheapos and look pretty similar to other Spyro plushies I own so I don’t think they’re bootlegs or anything like that.
hey lssq i have a suggestion, talk about makeship, they are a canadian company that sells plushies that are availible for 21 days, ive managed to get 4 (sashley, bon, cheems and cream pie) they have alot of cool things
have you ever looked into the Medicom Seton Cubivore toys? they're very interesting and there's not a ton of information out there on them, let alone the game itself being hard to find! definitely one of my favorite things i have but i wish i knew more about them!
Not too sure if this completely counts, but in the [extremely cringe-worthy] movie The Toy by Richard Pryor, there's apparently a plush of the character Ebeneezer T Squint from Nickelodeon's Pinwheel [which is also lost media in itself], but I have never seen it in any scenes. I also wonder if the other Pinwheel characters had plushies, and if they had been sold in stores or were just promotional? I really hope I can figure out this strange mystery.
58:23 hey i have that shirt! my friend's brother gave it and several other old zelda t-shirts to me earlier this year. it's too big on me, so i wear it as pajamas, lol. one of the zelda t-shirts he gave me has a list of kinda cringey "you know you're a zelda fan when" things and one of the things on the list is "you can't wait for the twilight princess" which reaaally dates it, lmao
Cool detail I just saw, but the panini in catalouge has her eyes partially closed, while the in the showroom has her eyes open all the way. Do you think there were two panini plushes?
Was the silver sonic McDonald’s toy ever released in Europe? Because I recall having played with one when I was a kid but I live in Belgium. I don’t think I owned it which means that either: - it was from a toy box from one of the schools that I’ve been part of - it was in a toy box in the paediatricians or dentists waiting room - it was owned by a classmate who took it to school - it belonged to the neighbour kid that I used to play with Either way I haven’t seen it since at least the mid 2000s and haven’t spoken to most of these people in just as long so idk where to look…
I'm not sure where else to post this as I can't find a Discord or send a message anywhere! I have a Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack key chain made by Loungefly. I haven't been able to find the exact one I have online anywhere. Flapjack is standing saying "WHAT!?" with his hands on his cheeks. I'm happy to send photos or any more info if you have any interest in seeing it!
