Great and useful podcast thank you. If I may add some information and also some corrections. I am Jill Aebi-Mytton who has researched this group for over 30 years and whose research is referred to in this podcast. One has to be very careful not to confuse the Open Brethren with the group once called the Exclusive Brethren. The Open Brethren have also used the Plymouth Brethren name. When the Exclusive Brethren changed their name, the Open Brethren were not too happy! The Rapid Relief Team was formed in response to the Charity Commission in the UK refusing charitable status for a new charity back in 2012 - the brethren appealed this and one of the things they did was to set up the RRT to demonstrate their charitable work - prior to this charity outside of the brethren was not acceptable. The RRT helped them convince the Charity Commission that they were indeed there for public benefit. I am not sure if by referring to reseach in NZ in 2016 the person is referring to a study. conducted between 2010-2012 which was used by the Charity Commission as evidence of harm and detriment - if not I would be interested to know about this study. This study had a large sample worldwide, The study was interrupted due to legal activity against me by the brethren. We are hoping to relaunch this research towards the end of this year. The speaker also referred to a study in 2017 - this was my doctoral thesis and was qualitative in methodology. I interviewed six participants of whom two were from Australia but there were none from NZ. The number quoted of 27% of the sample reporting abuse came from the 2010-2012 study not from the 2017 one. I felt it important to get the facts right so I hope my comment is useful and helpful. I would be happy to talk any time. Finally a big thank for this podcast - the more exposure the better.
Thank you for helping to shed some light on this cult. It desperately needs to be exposed. I was a member for the first 36 years of my life. I remember as a child having to stay in the house for weeks and weeks because my parents were shut up.

Absolute truth in what you say here, thank you. As a former member of the PBCC and a survivor of sexual abuse, I was excommunicated from the church and confined to my bedroom, I couldn’t even play the piano in the family home during this period as I couldn’t be seen to be enjoying myself. Thank you again for raising awarneess
Thank you so much for this podcast. There is so much that needs investigating amongst the PBCC and child sexual abuse is certainly prevalent. As an escapee and survivor of marital sexual abuse and rape from within the PBCC I think there is a lot that needs exposing in this group.

Thank you for this important podcast, and the research and careful thought that clearly went into it. As much as religious groups have the right to practice their religion, this does not mean that they can ignore other human freedoms and rights, including the right to be safe from things like abuse of any kind, including psychological and emotional abuse, and from coercive control. It is so crucial for those in the legal sphere to act with moral courage, good ethics and concern for all human rights, and to not be duped by the ways in which abuse can hide under veneers of religiosity. At the Olive Leaf Network (NZ and Australia) we support people who have been made vulnerable through the impact of high-demand religious groups and we know the underbelly of such groups too well. We commend you for your work and courage in talking publicly about it!

Thank you for drawing attention to the issue of sexual abuse in the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church. It is proven to be a widespread issue with victims from children to adults. It follows some of the worst societal practices, under a thin veneer of respectability. They have become wealthy, and believe that they are above the law. It is well past time to act against the leaders of the cult, who are the architects of lawlessness, and who continually allow these horrific actions to continue
