Started my career in 1981 as a machinist helper and then as a machinist apprentice and machinist in a roundhouse very similar to that one part of it still had a dirt floor, we changed TM combos, stripped and rebuilt TM combos, refurbished trucks, and did minor wreck repair, my favorite job at the running facility.

Bill-thanks for your comment, that was a great place to start your career and a great memory, there are not to many roundhouses left.

THE FORMER OLATHE KS NAVAL AIR STATION, BUILT 1942 HAD AN GAS POWERED PLYMOUTH LOCOMOTIVE FOR A FEW YEARS! MY DAD WORKED THERE 1951 TO 1964, AS BASE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER! ONE DAY IN 1952/53?? THEY HAD A FAMILY DAY/ OPEN HOUSE! AS PART OF THE FUN, THEY HAD A FLATCAR WITH TEMPORARY SEATING AND A FENCE AROUND IT, AND PULLED BY THE PLYMOUTH ! THE TRIP WENT FROM A WAREHOUSE DOCK AND NEARLY TO THE SANTA FE MAINLINE INTERCHANGE, MAKING AN 3 MILE ROUND TRIP! IT WAS MY FIRST SORT OF A TRAIN RIDE AT AGE 9, OR 10!! KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS!! 👍👍

I didn't watch it all so I don't know if it's disclosed if "Plymouth" relates to the car company. I can tell you that, after 18 years as a GM executive, General Motors produced Trains for many years under the badge of "Electro-Motive". They were well known and very marketable in that industry. What's funny is that most people don't realize that Hybrid Vehicles have been around for many decades ... in the form of what are referred to as Diesel Trains. People see smoke, and hear a roar, but what virtually none of the observers know is that the diesel engine they're hearing is actually powering a large generator, which in turn powers an electric motor, which in turn powers the train. Regardless of its size in a train configuration, no diesel engine could pull those loads ... only an electric motor can do that.

Richard, what a great comment. Yes, Plymouth was a separate company not related to the auto maker. you bring up an interesting point about diesel, electric really being hybrid and I think I might incorporate that just to make it Clear to people. I enjoyed your comment. thanks.

I worked at Plymouth Locomotive for 23 years 1971 to 1994 There is a Plymouth Locomotive in every country in the world. The mines that were explosive there were air start and a scrubber that turned the exhaust into steam which they had a patent on.

Which locomotive (steam) did the Plymouth end up in front of? Details count, . . . .

It wasn’t attached to locomotive only the tender which was separated from the locomotive. By the way, nice to hear from you.
