Hello, to anyone watching if you use an angled pick you can pry the solenoids up and out of the valve cover super smooth and easily. Likewise when you reinstall or put new ones in there, lube the oring with a little oil and then start it in the hole and line up the bolt and bracket and start the bolt. It's much better to smoothly pull in the solenoid using the bolt than using a rubber mallet. Thanks for the video.
For testing before replacing, the exhaust and intake solonoids should test 4.1 to 7.7 ohms. They should also "click" when 12 volt power is applied with wires to the sensors.
Sorry 'bout the camera. But, your upload went further than most of the same. Respect. You showed the "install". Most just say, "Installation is the reverse of removal." We who own HHR/EcoTechs know that getting out the part is the easy part of the battle. Installation may be a journey through Hell. (I.E. putting back the upper bolt on the starter which you can't see, or feel.) Did the Cam and Crank sensors. Next is the timing/water pump drive chains and guides. EcoTechs always need these around 100K. Wouldn't put myself through any of this if the car wasn't paid for, or otherwise good. I expect many "cool down" breaks and sessions with my "emotional support" dog. Thanks for the upload.
This video made me realize I'm impatient as shit and I get easily annoyed by people who take forever to get to the damn point lol... But thanks for making it, it was thorough... For anyone else who is impatient the important part starts in the last three minutes of the video
dude what are you doing?? didnt you just fuck up that hose air breather thingy dingy--?? i used an dryer vent hose to replace mine with .. i bought my hhr back in 2007 had it ever since even with the problems its been having.. the recall on it and that dang cheap azz plastic seal- cover on the passenger side just below the windshield when it rained it would leak over the heater blower . and pool up on the floor board.. then the a /c vent hose got plugged up.. and i had water pouring out over on my foot from the a/c when i take a right turn...that was crazy.. and had that issue with those sensors- i think you mean the cam actuator sensors ?? i took mine out and cleaned them up with brake cleaner and clean out those small screens and used a battery to check em they still work,, and put them back in.. those things arent cheap.. but now im getting that code agian and that weird shifting in the engine a year later.... had mine now for 14 yrs 208.000 miles and still cranking on the original spark plugs and fan belt.. but will change that at 300.000 miles if it lasts that long.. i really like the hhr.. although it was put together by fraaking idiots at chevy.. i took a trip around the country and lived in it for a whole month with no problems.. good luck with yours!! =)
