Nah, it was a good and bad thing because if Denji continued to remain in debt to the yakuza he would have died an early miserable death. So Pochita merging with him was his path to some kind of ‘freedom’ and love. But the later stuff of the manga happened so yeah

He's only alive cuz when Pochita was gonna take over Denji's dead corpse, he wanted to see his dreams. So he made a deal with Denji (somehow because Denji is already dead as his whole body was dismembered and beheaded and stuff) to become his heart so Denji will be alive and to be able to see his dreams, all with giving Denji his Chainsaw Devil powers. The fact that Denji was straight out dead but became Chainsaw Man, the same probably would've happened if the Yakuza got to him or if he just died in general

Chainsaws aren’t that scary of a concept, so it’s possible that he’s the culmination of multiple Devils and contracts. It’ll probably never he explained though because a mystery is more interesting than being outright told. He even ate the true name of humans who become hybrids with Devils. We call them hybrids, or Devilmen. But Chainsawman ate the true name for them. So it’s safe to assume that he also ate what made him so strong. Even Makima didn’t really know for sure, and she was the only being in existence who could remember the things that he ate, or at the very least only their names.

I’ve only heard of the plot from my sister’s explanation and I didn’t know how anyone in the story looked at the time. I’ve always thought that the way that Denji had met Ponchita, he was gonna be more like a miniature chainsaw child. When I found out that his normal form was usually just a wholesome dog, it had warmed yet broken my heart. No wonder Denji was so pissed when he woke up without Ponchita next to him.
