Hey there! In order: yes, you can do that! Should sound amazing. There's no mid knob - hopefully the voicings of the channels mean you'll be fine without one (we also love mids!), although we totally get that. If there's ever a Mark 3 it should have a dedicated mids knob ;) And no, you can't turn off the cab and mic emulations. Hope this helps! 😊

We are of course biased, but we think it's great as a headphone solution (really nice, full sounds), and there's loads of volume on tap.

it's very good. Depends on your headphones how good. I recommend it. i'mvery nocturnal so when the family is aslepp, I'm rocking.. Very Very good.

+PalmerGermany Some more questions. 1. This unit cannot be phantom-powered through its XLR jack, but will always need its own adapter or battery instead, right? 2. Even if it needs a dedicated power supply, will this unit at least "tolerate" 48 V phantom power applied to its XLR out, so that one can plug this into a mixing console that has phantom power engaged for all inputs or will the Pocket Amp take damage when a DC bias is applied to its XLR out? I assume it's safe, as it would be pretty bad if it weren't. However, there's no statement in the manual and I thought I'd rather check back before trying it out. ;-) 3. Are the jack connectors asymmetric (TS) or symmetric (TRS)? I assume both input and output jacks are asymmetric (TS) and hopefully the XLR is symmetric. ;-) 4. How much level does this device take and put out? I tried putting a *line* (not instrument!) level signal through its (guitar) input jack and it stayed perfectly clean when in bypass mode or when engaged with the gain not set too high. The voltage of a line level signal is probably an order of magnitude greater than what you'd expect from an electric guitar pickup so that seems like a lot of "clean headroom". On the other hand, this device also appears to put out very high signal levels through its outputs. With gain and volume cranked on the Palmer, it still seems to overdrive even a *line-level input*, with the gain on the input set to minimum, and even with a *20 dB pad* in between. It seems like the volume control provides enough room to tone this down to "sensible" levels, however this is just far more than I expected to see from a guitar pedal. (No criticism. This probably makes this device very versatile. It's just that I wasn't expecting it. ;-) ) Also, when it's in bypass mode, the volume control is disregarded, and it will put out a really strong signal. Particularly, if you have headphones on, you will probably be deaf when you switch to bypass mode. ;-) A separate volume control for the headphone out would be nice, so that you can adjust the DI signal to the maximum level that the mixer takes but can still keep comfortable listening levels on your headphones. On the other hand, when you're using the Palmer as a DI into a mixer, you'll probably be getting a monitor signal from that mixer and not use the headphone out on the Palmer, so this is rather a non-problem, as you will adjust the monitor levels at the mixer.

+wow503 the Pocket Amp will tolerate phantom power up to 63 Volts, but it cannot be powered by phantom power, unfortunately.

I know this is an old question, bur for other reading this: yes it takes ODs or DSs pedals well. This is a small preamp in it self with. Use it into your interface. Use it infront of your amp. Use it in the loop return only using the poweramp. Use it direct into powered monitors or a PA. Great small analog solutation imo. Good sounds but always nice too have a boost or OD infront if you need it. and a wha and a comressor maybe. dunno good shit anyways.

Hello Aris, does this occur even when using batteries, or only with external power supply? If it does always occur, please do hand your unit to your vendor for warranty claim, as this should not happen.

@@disturbedje same hum issue with headphones here, even at the cleanest setting. it is just impossible to play this way. did i get a faulty unit or is this the case always with headphones?

@@pdepurpurina try playing on a battery. If it doesn't hum then, you should buy the palmer power adapter. That fixed it for me.

Its a matter of taste when playing clean at least, otherwise after the preamp (the palmer) but certain players have everything infront of their amp. I dont like modulation and reverb and such before. Only wha, and OD/Dist and maybe comressor infront. If you use this into a daw or an amp with reverb onboard no need to think about it. if you have a effectloop use it for modulation and timebased shit as reverb and delay etc-

You can connect the PocketAmp directly to your mixing console via the XLR output. You can use the Headphone output at the same time.

I doubt it. I think you would need a power amp in between.

For home practice you can plug in headphones or use if with your home speaker system.

You could buy the mooer baby bomb to power up your cabs use this in front of that.

+mywave inwoods The „whistling“ that you describe sounds like a technical problem. ThePocket Amp normally doesn’t produce these kind of noises. Please contact customer service, they will easily fix this problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your feedback! :) It is not possible to run a loudspeaker. It doesn't have enough power. For smaller gigs we recommend the Palmer FAB5. Best regards :)

You probably have some stereo speakers for your PC or a Hi-Fi System. You could plug this thing into it. You have to be a to a little careful though.

Although your website says "Mit einem PA- und Monitorsystem kann er sogar den Bühnenamp ersetzen." - so from what I understand as long as he uses an active cab/system he should be fine, shouldn't he?

I have a Laney FRFR 212 powered cab. would love to connect the Palmer to it.

Although there seem to be some similarities in functionality and perhaps for some settings even in sound, the Palmer Pocket Amp is not influenced by the GT2. Cheers!

No, it's buffered bypass.

This Pocket AMP has a triple reversible "Amp" Simulation. It has also a speaker-cab simulation.

+iursnitram No need for an MK3. People have reported that it sounds good through an amp, even with a cabinet simulation in place. The difference is probably that the XLR is symmetric and the jack is not.

Hi! It basically is a preamp with Overdrive/Distortion Section and Cab Simulation. So you can use it stand-alone for practising or in front of your amp or for direct recording. Cheers

@@PalmerGermany So it is basically designed to be plugged directly into mix. It looks like I can't use it with poweramp: Guitar -> Palmer mkII -> Marshall EL34 50/50 poweramp -> Cab. Unfortunately it doesn't have switch to turn off the cab simulation and use it as a preamp similarly to JMP-1.

@@hovadopekelne @Palmer Yes, that is a good point. I have owned this unit for a year now and use it a lot to practise, particularly with headphones at night and also to record, as I prefer it to DAW full digital processing. It sounds really great recorded and for those above uses it has been really good value and highly recommended. It is always in my gig bag as well, as back-up in case my amp dies at a gig, I play pub and club gigs, with no space in the car for spare amps! I have never quite understood why Palmer configured it as a foot switchable pedal however, as it is, by nature of what it does, surely pretty much an ‘always on’ unit? Without a non-emulated output to go to the amp, live use is limited to specific situations, ie direct to mix only, and even that is tricky with no effects loop, with reverb or delay sitting in front of any of the hi-gain settings? An effects loop would certainly make it a more potent and versatile ‘direct to mix’ live use unit. As you say, the amp and mic placement emulation are always there, so it is not really the right unit to use as a pre-amp for a power amp/cab set up, or indeed in any live situation where you want to use a good-sounding live amplifier and also split to the mixing board (except when you have to play at low volume levels where you cannot push the amp and cabinet, or if you have a clean, not great sounding stage amp to use, where again, the Palmer shines).

Hello Joey, you can use it as a DI box too, but it has no galvanic isolation between in- and output.

You would need to add an external reverb effect pedal in your signal chain, in front of the PocketAmp. Cheers

I bought it and if you put an external disto or fuzz effects with the clean simulation it produces a horrible sound...

It is a DI Box/Preamp - no power stage.

Very good. Some like the amp to already have a little dirt or much dirt and the boost it with a OD or a boost - others use amps as clean platforms. I think both works well.
