It's me again! It's a good thing these are addictive because I have been getting requests from everywhere! I attach a cross, angel or heart and they are now at hospice centers, hospitals, a funeral, VA centers, etc. My latest is a Backpack Blessing prayer pocket with an angel or heart and a blessing for the school year. Parents can add a message as often as they wish. I have passed on your pattern to many. Just wanted you to know that your little pockets are loved by many! Thank you again.
Thank you for showing this. I love the pocket ! I never liked the safety pin. I found your post when looking up,pocket prayer quilts! Just an odd side note. My grandpa, from Sweden, mined gold in 1914 . Fairbanks was the town! He was there for 2 years I think. Amazing!
Making more pocket prayer quilts and your version is by far my favorite. Not only do you have a wonderful pocket but it's so much easier to turn the inside to the outside! Thanks again!
I just started making prayer pockets and wasn't happy with the patterns I found. This is terrific! I made mine a little larger but the little pocket is so cute and a perfect way to add a blessing or prayer. Thank you for posting this - I can't wait to give these out at our local cancer center.
Thank you...i made 24 of them after watching tour video. Super easy, except I put the pocket part on wrong on a few of them..pocket is shorter is all. They turned out super cute.
Back again! I'm finally going to make some of these for Valentine's Day, to insert in cards I'm making to mail off this week. Tho it'd not be particularly necessary either, once the 4-patch is ironed to the fusible fleece, you could stitch in the ditch in the cross section of the 4-patch, then continue on with your method. I love this so much better than the SF original method, quicker and easier. Thank you Beret! You guys have had a real Fbks winter, lots of snow and cold, but the sun should be shining bright now earlier and later. I always this feeing this time of year, and Ice Classic ticket time, Ice Alaska time too.
Best Pocket Prayer design ever. Been making these for some years now, but always used special papers and faux leathers. Always wanted to make some from fabric. The back pocket idea is the best answer for this item made with fabrics. I did a test run and love the way it turns out. I'm off and running now. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this pattern/idea! I hadn’t made one before-with your helpful tutorial I made several for my Bible study group❤️thank you again for your time & creativity.
Thank you for posting this tutorial. I love making these and will definitely use your method. I think these projects will go so much faster. Hope to see more of your creativity.
I previously said I was making them a bit larger. I decided I like your size better! and now I add a cross or an angel and I enclose a blessing. Just took 60 to our hospice center. Can't thank you enough!
Good thinking and good job demonstrating your innovation. If including a charm (for example the cross you mentioned), it could be slipped into the pocket formed by your first turning. The second turning would prevent the charm from falling out of the pocket and becoming lost. I believe the charm's shape would still be felt through the layers of fabric and adequately serve as a reminder of the gifter's well wishes.
I have watched this video so many times over the past few days as it's something that has been requested by a customer. She wants 6cm x 6cm mini pocket prayer quilts and I'm having so much trouble trying to get the sizing right. Who would have thought it would be so difficult? I'm no expert sewer and terrible at maths, but this should be simple...she says after numerous fails! I'm using 4" fabric squares that I have an abundance of, so that should make it even more simple.
On something this small, the little bit ‘off’ that the thickness causes can be a big percentage 😅 I guess it would be a matter of experimenting to see how much extra you have to add to accommodate that 😅 Six cm is slightly larger than mine, but you might have to allow a bit extra seam allowance still.
Great video. I love your detailed instructions, yet you managed not to over explain. Many thanks for your written instructions, I'm hoping to use them with a group of churches ladies.
This is ingenious. I didn’t line mine even and they turned out fine. I did slip a cross under the first flap before I flipped the second one based on someone else’s comment. Soooo much easier than the other method I was using.
Fantastic twist on the pocket prayer quilt. I would really love to make one. I was thinking if someone did not have fusible fleece, they could simply add a small amount of glue to secure the fleece or batting. Thanks for sharing.
I’m sorry, I did assume I was making it for people who are already quilters, since that is who I have seen making these. Even though they are small, they’re a bit fiddly for a beginner project 😅 I will keep that in mind for the future if I get a chance though!
If you're not experienced enough to make the patchwork effect, yet you could try doing just plain flat fabric squares for now. Maybe stitch a line across both ways to make a faux patchwork look.
