If you can watch this and still wonder why people love aviation and the machines that have been built since "composite materials and turbines" ( jet engine with a prop on it ) like this have come on the scene... I don't know what to say to ya ?? Riding a motorcycle in a mountain environment is maybe 1000th of the thrill of lifting off the ground in this miss-isle and having your back pushed into the seat as it tears toward the mountaintops. The sound is beautifully ferocious !!!
ImaThug Yall That's a gorgeous flying machine,no doubt! I think it would take twenty pounds of butter and a shoe horn to get me into that little thing though! Pure scares the s**t out of me just looking at it! If I wanted to go like that with so little around me I would strap a rocket to my ass!
OMG dude taxi a little pathway up to a grass airstrip if you can even call it that and take off in a valley between two mountains then land down hill. Absolutely amazing set up....
Big prop all right. I guess he doesn't go to full power till 150knots+ Why has nobody put a UHB fan on a turbine. Regular turboprops don't come into their sweet spot till 250 knots
G'day, Everybody else in the Valley must hate that NOISY little Hairygoplane with a really deep passion. What a horrible Noise to make in such an otherwise beautiful place (!). Maybe the Neighbours are taking up a Collection to buy an Anti Aircraft Gun ; to shut that demented whining roaring howling selfish little thing down...? Such is life, Have a good one. ;-p Ciao ! Such is Life
So if you are going to spend God knows how much building that aircraft, would you not just spend a little extra getting proper Allison decals made... not that hard. Completely pointless putting Pratt stickers on the thing... nice aircraft though.
Now that's a fantastic aircraft. How lucky can some people get, to have that kind of equipment and based in those surroundings. Lucky individual. 🤩🤩👍👍👍
Now, that's a way to enjoy life. The surroundings are stunning and I'm sure quite beautiful in the air. Portions make the Aircraft look like and RC Model Plane.
Amazing pilot, plane, turbine, taxiway, airfield, situation, (security!!!) Waouwwww everything is Rock'n Roll. Be safe (BTW in case an engine failure, or ... I hope you've a ballistic parachute)
what is a pocket rocket? A one-off design or a modified kit of some kind? Frati design? Never seen this one before. The Allison seems to be a lot of power for such a small airframe.
So, was this an aircraft built from scratch, or a kit? What type of engine is used? What is the max distance? How much did it cost to put together? Too bad that it didn't have retractable landing gear, it would have increased the range and speed.
It is in Italy, they make Ferrari's, wine and 1000 of other things no one else can do better, and . . . still have a beautiful country. Modern toys and nature can be combined : in other countries with much effort, in Italy gracefully ! Italy is the most underestimated country of Europe. No, I am a born 'Vlaming' from Belgium.
What a gorgeous airplane. Would love to have seen more flying. However, many others have already said it, and I concur. Canned RU-vid music should be illegal.
The main disadvantage of turbines over piston engines, is that piston engines get MUCH better fuel economy, due to how much tighter their fuel-air mixture is. And how much more power is extracted from that mixture. If you put two planes together. A piston plane, and a turbine plane, of the same size, weight, and propulsive capabilities, the Piston plane will be able to go maybe 15-20% further on the same amount of fuel, than the turboprop. And 30-40% further than the best turbofans of equal proportions. Turbine engines win out on the bigger planes. That is beyond dispute. But with smaller planes like this rocket, piston still geta the best fuel economy per mile flown. Not to mention turbines are more expensive to maintain and overhaul. And are MUCH more FOD-sensitive. I do hope, that one day, turbines can eventually get on par with pistons at the small scale. That will be cool af! But that day is yet to come.
Wie groß ist die Reichweite und was verbraucht die Maschine pro Stunde bei Reisegeschwindigkeit ? Ich fand sie schon mit Rotax Motor klasse und alles andere als langsam aber das kickt mich richtig
Wow! I didn't know the Pocket Rocket was an actual airplane. I was looking up information about Torquesim's aircraft for X-Plane and found this. Just wondering why this plane has a Pratt & Whitney logo on the cowling when it actually has an Allison/Rolls Royce engine.
I agree about the music. If the videographer is reading, please note what I am saying! I am sure that the others in this group who have replied to this video agree with me. When I watch videos such as this I want to get as close to the sense of being there as I can get. If I actually saw this plane I would be entranced with the whine of turbine engine. Music is at best a distraction from this effect. There is no musiic that you can pick that is more of an intoxicant for people who are passionate about aviation than the sound of an aircraft taking off, landing or making a fast pass overhead. Again all your music does is detract from your message!!! So can it for god sake!!!
Alexandr Emelianov I agree, especially in a video that has a sole purpose of demonstrating an unusual aircraft. I have made lots of videos for entertainment and they often contain background music as most movies and TV presentations do. Note I said "background" because they are not the purpose of the video, only to lend a mood. some things don't need music or special sound effects and should not have them.
Ok Guys, please stop bitching about the music here. This was the first vid mad by Christian and I thank him for it. After I heard it I asked him to post a version without music which he did. To get details of Sarentino, look for the Locher Sarentino Landing guide posted here on youtube by Darren Fern. The design goals of Pocket Rocket were a rough field STOL aircraft, low maintenance and fast cruising above 230KT TAS were met. A retractable gear would have made it a lot faster, but heavier and less durable, plus less tank capacity.
Where is the jet exhaust port? I would have to see more on this to believe it is a jet plane. Unless the sole purpose of the jet is to turn the prop. Watched another video. And that is it. I wonder what the equivalent horse power output is? I know during WW2 some of the best had 2000hp output.
