A girl from my university thought it would be a smart idea to slap a horse on its hip while it wasn't looking (it was homecoming and she was belligerent) and it happened to be a mounted police horse. The moment she slapped the horse, he got spooked and kicked the girl to the ground. All front teeth smashed. She was fined $3,000 for assaulting an officer. Queens University, google it.

Actually they teach police horses to kick and go after the person that hit them. I went to a seminar about police horses and learned a lot about what and how they teach the horses. Very interesting. Being and owner of a horse and knowing how hard it is to teach them anything it was amazing

As someone that lives in LA and works as an adult film (porn) performer, it made me really relieved/happy to hear you talk about porn in such a positive tone; there's so much stigma and misinformation surrounding the adult film industry and sex work in general, and it made me so happy that two people that I respect a lot have such an open and mature outlook. Also, being from LA I could tell where you were driving and it literally stressed out my entire being that you were taking that route to Eagle Rock on a Friday night... Ya crazy...

IamMissPronounced I work as an adult film performer for the same reasons that anyone chooses any career: because I am passionate about and skilled at the content matter. My biggest passions have always been performance and the study of the psychological and sociological aspects of sexuality, and I happen to be unreasonably skilled in the bedroom. Sex work is one of the only professions that people will question why you'd ever want to participate, and it's only because of the sex-negative stigma that most of the US subscribes to. Honestly, have you ever spoken to an adult performer? Have you ever actually had a conversation with a sex worker, and asked their opinion? Or are you just going off of your negative bias that you've learned from being socialized to think sexuality is evil and unnatural, and therefore have to question how anyone could be happy being so sexually aware, healthy, and empowered, because if it's different than what you know, it must be wrong.

kiskas2121 I don't think she meant it negatively, because despite the poor connotations that come along with your chosen profession, a lot of sex work (worldwide, not just the US. and not only working in the adult film industry, also prostitution, stripping, etc.) can be easily linked to unfair working conditions and human/sex trafficking. She was just curious :). Also, it's very nice to hear that you are really into your job because I live in Thailand, a country notorious for sex work that is pretty unjust. This is a controversial topic, and I hope nothing I said was of offense.

Yes, it was! I sat and cried, watching the coverage.... the photos of the animals, lost, running and scared will be permanently burned into my brain. I've lived here my whole life... and it was like watching my childhood go up in flames. My brother lives on the east side of Knox County, right next to Sevier Co... I was a nervous wreck.

Amor Fati I had just moved to FL from Greeneville TN. Those fires were scary to hear about my friends back home in TN I couldn't imagine what it was like living so close to it. I remember the fires in Hot Springs that were really close to my old house (also arson but it was on purpose in hot springs) and I was terrified.

I used to work with and train horses and I can verify that they are highly intelligent creatures. Police horses go through extensive training. Things like crowd training and getting used to loud sounds, pushing, shoving...things that would replicate a riot. The horses are trained to listen to the rider's voice and small cues and are extremely responsive. And I have seen police horses kick people for hitting them xD A horse could technically be considered a police officer. While they are used for transport, they are a safer way to maneuver through a crowd than walking with a dog. Horses can be riding straight through people, and if you see one charging at you, you'd move the hell out of the way xD

When I stated driving and my mom would have me run errands she would print map-quest directions and on more than one occasion she would forget to give me a page and I wouldn't notice until I'm in the middle of a city I've never been to and I would have to figure out what was missing while driving and trying not to die

Jenna, horse cops are trained in a similar way that dogs are. They have one cop/rider for most if not all of their career and some cops even keep their horses after they retire. And they are trained to charge/behave as cops in some ways. I once knew a police horse who was out during protests and someone hit her in the chest with a wooden sign and she chased him and pinned him against the wall while he was arrested.

What I love about carcast is how much it calms me down. I watch it on my way back from the bus stop, and I hate walking alone so it feels like there's two other people with me and it helps my anxiety so much. Thanks Dink Fam!!! Love y'all!

There is a dumplings place in my country's capital and the best thing about it other than the cheap food and late work hours is that they have one of those "not allowed" stickers by the entrance of a horse. Mind you, this is in the central train station building, the doorways could never fit a horse unless specifically opened with help of employees. Yet there the sign remains - no horses allowed in the dumpling place.

Hi! I live in Burbank near the equestrian center, people even have horses in small stables in their back yards around here. They walk on the sides of the streets, and even have buttons at crosswalks that are higher up for the riders to press! As well as park-like areas to take their horses to. Ive even seen a man in a cowboy hat and crocks walking a goat in a diaper.

I remember when those fires happened, I live in North Carolina, which is close to Tennessee, and at the same time, we had fires in Lake Lure, NC which is about 30 min from where I live, and I have friends that live up there, and it's such a beautiful area of NC, just as Gatlinburg is an amazing part of Tennessee. And with those fires took my cousins cabin that my parents went to with them every year; luckily they weren't staying there that time of year. Prayers and thoughts to those who lost lives in those fires.

To answer the horse question, I just read an article the other day about that. Yes, the police horses are trained thoroughly before they are paired with a rider. They don't just throw someone on the horse, they have to find the best "compatibility". Horses can be very picky animals when it comes to riders.
