I eat 300g of oats soaked in half a liter of oat milk almost every morning. On paper, that's over 1,000 calories, but I strongly suspect the absorbed/used portion is substantially less (many calories trapped in cell walls).
I put defrosted organic blueberries from Costco on my bowl of organic raw uncooked oats and put some seasonings such as garlic powder and Ceylon cinnamin and powdered ginger and use organic unsweetened Silk brand soy milk over the top. I usually add some organic nuts like walnuts and some seeds too. It’s delicious. Can add a cut up apple if you have room. Sometimes I use some organic raisins on top too. It’s a big bowl. My husband and I each have our own bowl. I make them both! Best Wishes!
Similar to mine. I pour that mixture on top of a cup of frozen kale and a cup of frozen collards. Add 1/2 c of raw almonds, hazelnuts, and pumpkin seeds. Instead of nooch, l use my own super laced curry powder with extra turmeric and black pepper and some sun-dried raw cocoa. Have you tried oat groats instead of oat meal? I use 1/3 of them, 1/3 of barley, and a 1/3 of puy lentils. Been using the golden flax meal, in my head it tastes better than the brown. And of course the frozen strawberries, raspberries, and wild blueberries. Best meal of the day! Happy health!
Similar to mine as well except for the kelp, amla and saffron. But I add almond flour, sesame seeds, maca powder, pre-soaked goji berries, and ... wait for it ...chickpeas! Or sometimes kidney beans or even lentils. Plus powdered cloves, all spice, and coriander. Oh, plus a tbs of nutritional yeast for good measure.
World Oatmeal day is October 10th every year. Did you know that Bobs Red Mill oatmeal has won the Golden Spirtle award? I love oats. Groats, steel cut, cracked, rolled, it’s all good.
Love oatmeal for breakfast! Mine is never boring. Try this folks - add shredded carrots, pineapple, raisins, vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, & smashed banana. Top it with walnuts, plant milk, yum...Carrot Cake Oatmeal. I have a different one for each day. :)
@@l21n18 Yes really! I usually add shredded carrots or zucchini to my oats daily with berries and spices. Try it, you might be pleasantly surprised that it doesn’t interfere with the flavor. Most times you won’t notice they are in there 😉
oats are not GMO So those wonderful people at monsanto came up with a method to get more glyphosate into us . When oats are ready to harvest they spray them with glyphosate to dry them out thus saving big farmer money in the processing . More cancer for the consumer but monsanto considers that a win too . I spend the extra money for organic but who knows if that really helps . Please boycot all monsanto , Bayer products including and especially roundup at your home .
If there were 2 groups of people who ate a wfpb diet, and both groups ate the exact same thing, except that one group ate only non organic oats and one group ate only organic oats, but everything else the same, do you truly think the first group would get more cancer? I'm not convinced that would happen. I'm not at all convinced that non organic oats are like smoking cigarettes.
@@sidilicious11 but you don't think it's that important to eat them organic if you can't find organic ones or if they are too expensive? Would you say that wheat and corn are just as important to eat organic as oats, even if the non organic corn and wheat are non gmo verified?
My go to breakfast is soy milk, w/ blueberries, chopped walnuts, 1tspn ground flaxseed, handful of chopped kale, 1/2tspn amla powder and sprinkled with Ceylon cinnamon😋😋😋 doesn’t get any better😋😋

I can't stomach oats in the morning...but, I cook them up (or even just soak them quickly) and mix them into cooked butternut or spaghetti squash and make burgers and don't hae any digestive issues that way. Or, I mix cooked oats into cassava flour and riced cauliflower, add H20 to make a thick batter (or leave it drier if you want to) and use it to make a pizza dough! (add a bit of garlic powder, spices, maybe some rosemary). I bake it in my broiler oven for about 16 minutes, then top, and finish baking another 10 minutes or so (par cook things like zucchini or eggplant).....Delicious!!!
@@auberjean6873 It's great! For a one person crust, I use 64 grams of cassava flour, about 40 grams of defrosted frozen riced cauliflower, and 30-70 grams cooked oatmeal which binds). I get a niced sized crust...just play around with amounts and how much liquid you prefer)...
The least processed, the less blood sugar hit. I often cover whole oat groats with hot water in a thermous at night, and they're cooked and hot in the morning. No hit.
I add some tumeric, black pepper, and cinnamon into the pot with oats. Then throw in some dates, banana & berries with almond milk when I dish it into a bowl. No sugar or other sweetener.
I recently decided I would include more oatmeal in my diet. I am a 50 year vegetarian and never liked it much. However, Dr. Berg put out a video about it saying that it is not that great for you. Wondering if you saw that video and what you think of his criticisms...
I stopped eating oatmeal due to my Endometriosis and started Plant Based+Gluten Free diet and it changed my life. Just sharing for all the women out there. * I don't have celiac (did the test) but gluten agrivated my pain and many other "hidden" symptoms, so even gluten in it's healthy form was bad which took me years to make the connection
I love oats and I've been eating them every morning for years now! Still, IDK why they say that you eat them and they keep you fuller longer. I have eaten three servings for breakfast and I'm still hungry. I eat them with hot water, cinnamon, sometimes I'll add banana but I'll end up being hungrier like an hour later. Does this happen to anyone else?
Yes. Try adding some ground flax seed into the mix. I find about a teaspoon or less will help you feel fuller. Not too much or the flax taste may be too strong, but just the right amount adds a nice texture and flavor. I also add a sprinkle of ground flax to my pasta sauce. Use it instead of olive oil and it'll mimic the oil texture and adds a nice flavor without the "oily-ness". I find olive oil blunts the flavor of the sauce and from what I've heard, isn't really good for the arteries. I also replace the oil in salad dressings with ground flax. Just a sprinkle. Store the ground flax in the freezer and it'll last forever.
For me the big game changer was adding chia seeds and soaking them overnight. I was already adding ground flax seed and hemp seeds but hadn’t been soaking overnight. The chia seeds probably made the biggest difference but I suspect the overnight soaking made everything more digestible. The chia seeds make it like a pudding more.
That's because oats are bad. They raise your blood sugar similar to a high-sugar cereal. Eat eggs and sausages instead. You will be fuller for longer and will lose extra weight quicker.
I upped my fibre and inulin intake and have put on 6 pounds in just over a month. It has definitely stimulated my appetite by causing my bowel to empty more frequently. Hoping it will all settle down soon.
If you were underweight, or coming from a keto regime (so you're putting on needed fat or water stores) this is healthy increase. If not, then it'd be curious what you're eating and drinking alongside that inulin.
Oats is a great food, but for people with stent or bypass and don’t follow the medication… is not to good oats because it’s fatty little bit. I have changed oats flakes with barley flakes and rye flakes , they have less fat. I am man 54 years old, I have a stent for around 10 months and I don’t take any medication, that is why I am commenting here. I try to keep my cholesterol down following Esselstyn ‘s diet. I hope that I can find some more people like me with the same interests . 😊

Does anyone know about oat sensitivity? Meaning, oatmeal (however cooked) causing serious digestion problems (gas, bloating, discomfort, diarrhea)? But these problems were not present until middle age (late 40s) and after moving across the country. I haven't found a doctor that has a clue. Patient is whole food plant-based vegan. Tested negative for SIBO and fructose malabsorption.
It could also come down to your oats being treated with some chemicals in the growing process, maybe look out for a organic shop and try out their oats?
@@jasminealixandranorth Well, though oats themselves don't contain gluten, supposedly they can be contaminated with gluten from nearby crops. But I would still think the amount of gluten would be negligible.
I used to get sick from oatmeal and my dad did too so we assumed it was genetic but when I decided to try eating oats again, I got organic ones and slowly introduced it to my system gradually increasing until now I eat a full bowl without an issue. I soak mine overnight in the fridge. My guess of why you developed the sensitivity is that you didn’t have them for a while and lost some if the microbes to digest them as easily as before. Also, if you were on antibiotics it can cause a lot of new sensitivities. But maybe since you moved something environmental is causing issues. Might want to look into a mold test. Good luck.
I had the same problem. Then I started soaking them overnight in Oat milk, i found if i soak them for more than 12 hours, 16 works even better, i have very mild symptoms. Another method i have heard but never tried and no need for me to try now, is to introduce them in less amounts in your diet. That may work too. I also add blue berries, dates, prunes, dried figs, cherries and fresh grapes to the soaked mix. Best of luck mate.
Did you know that a horse, being hyper herbivore cannot eat too much oats/grains. Their digestive system suffer and their joints suffer. But humans, we have iron stomachs, let's eat all the forage crops
Poor animals, because they don't know how to cook, they are missing all the health issues... that we have :)) I don't use heat to cook fruits and vegetables, oats included
Soy, Almonds and Oats. Its not that simple. Fix our diet and degrade eco systems and the environment. How do we change agriculture to provide the foods we need without continually plundering the natural environment? Here in Australia, Oats are a broad hectare (acre) crop, doesn't require irrigation and can be grown organic ie less man made chemicals. So thats a plus for Oats. However I do have concerns about almonds and Soy. Almonds require irrigation year round and are now taking water from the environment. The Murray Darling Basin in Australia is a political football, the farmers want more water, the environment needs more water to restore the significantly damaged rivers eco systems. Soy production has seen hugh forest clearing in the Amazon and in South East Asia pushing Orangutans toward extinction. Were now spending money putting threatened species into small protected areas and initiating breeding programs. I focus on oats inc oat milk.
Hi, @hiltongibson9682! You make some good points in favor of oats. Everything on our site related to the environment may be found here: nutritionfacts.org/topics/environment/ I hope that helps! -Christine Kestner, MS, CNS, LDN, MPH, NutritionFacts.org Health Support Volunteer

Hmmm. Oatmeal lotion. Handmade or "sponsored" by Aveeno Brand. As a child with eczema my mother would put oatmeal wrapped in a sealed cloth. She would use it like a wet sponge; spreading the milky liquid on my skin.
I put about 70mls in a yogurt container. I add a cup of Kefir, a heaped tablespoon of Chia seeds, a fruit (usually an apple or peach) chopped small, a few good shakes of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey. Stir well. Wack the lid on and leave it overnight. Yum!

I soak a big bowl of steel-cut oats in just hot water, add cinnamon and frozen blueberries, and eat it for breakfast almost every day. That is 200 grams (dry weight) of steel-cut oats every day. It is cheap too, as I buy the steel-cut oats in bulk in 25-pound packs.

Just a question...is it better to eat the oats just plain...in warm water......or can i get the same effects for health with blending in a Mixer and eat it slowly as a fluid Shake ? Thanks and greetings from Andreas
You want to eat them as whole as possible, check out groats....these are the whole oats before being cut/crushed into bits and pieces. this will slow digestive absorption and have a lower impact on blood sugars/insulin. avoid fast cook oats or drinking them. Alles klar! 🙂
Probably the worst grain you can eat is modern wheat. I bake my own whole grain sourdough breads from organic ancient grains instead, like emmer and einkorn. And i always eat some foods that contain a lots of fat and protein together with the bread to slow down the glucose absorbtion. To prevent the blood sugar to rise quickly. Unfortunately all grains scores relatively high to very high on the glycemic index, which is a drawback.
What happens when you become allergic to the protein in oats? That happened to me. I hate it. I did everything with oats. But God is faithful. He will show me what to do. I am currently looking through your cookbooks for ideas.
A great protein substitute for something like smoothies instead of oats are cooked red/orange lentils. Red lentils are basically brown but have the fiber shell removed-- yet the nutrition content doesn't change. I cook them and keep in fridge for smoothies. Great for extra protein !
No any General Mills food contains GLYOSPHATE. A known carcinogenic ..quaker oats included. Look for non GMO and organic always when it comes to foods esp wheat and oat products
he should mention that oats will cause blood sugar to skyrocket in a diabetic. i would rather skip breakfast and keep my glucose well under 100 all day.
