Podcast: The things that stood out in KU football's win over BYU 

As an outsider watching the games on TV, I agree with Kevin's point about controlling the game by running the ball in the 2nd half. It was really impressive. The defense was solid and the crowd was awesome. It was so great to see a full stadium. Thanks for the podcast and the time you guys put in. GO JAYHAWKS

I only have one complaint. Can we stop running up to the line on a stupid quick snap and a run up the middle which never gets a first down. Its a waste of a down. This last game we got a motion penalty on that twice killing an easy first down opportunity. Just stubbornness on coach K's part. I think I have an alternative he'd like if I could get an audience.

This has to be the first time since 2009 we’ve been ranked higher then KSU. It might only be for one week but regardless it feels nice lol.

I agree with you for the most part that offense can be schemed to improve despite your talent and that defense depends a lot more on the horses you have. However, Iowa State had a great defense last year even though they didn't have great horses. They had guys who had played the same system for years and all of their starters had years of experience in that system. So I do think that even today in the age of high-octane offenses, that if you have a lot of experience and good coaching, you can put together a solid defense. And I think that is some of what we're seeing. I'm still not sure if we'd call this defense "solid", as we have the better offenses ahead of us rather behind us, but I do definitely see a lot of improvement. Some of that is new guys who have transferred in, but a lot of that is coaching and knowing the defensive scheme better.
