If you have a second in-person guest, I would actually recommend this kind of hybrid setup: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SK1sygqMkR8.htmlsi=ZXFsiBxqmzDMj3pL
The Earthworks Icon is a great condenser mic for that kind of recording, but for a more budget option the ATR 2100X is really versatile and would work in that scenario too.
@@Riversidefm Thanks so much, i tried to buy a trs to trrs cable for using with a zoom h1n mic but i think the dongle i have to use with a new iphone makes the cable ineffective?
This is one of the reasons I want IPhone 14 pro. I already have a Rhode lavender mic and a inexpensive shotgun mic that wouldn’t fit the new input on the 15. Also the 14 Pro is cheaper now and seems like it would perfect for what I want!
My big camera is a Sony A7IV, which record to an SD card, if that's what you mean. I show everything here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wgeg_TnndnY.htmlsi=gpK3hj4pKHDvUZaO
Great informative Video, thanks. I just want to use my Rode NTG 4+ (powered XLR) with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. ie). use my shotgun mic with my iPhone and record video but having better Shotgun recordings. I take movies of distant birds / sounds for instance. I don't particularly want to carry a studio around with me though. But I have ordered the Vocaster One anyway. What do you recommend my set-up should be ?
If you have an iPhone 15 or 15 Pro, you can plug the Vocaster directly in to the iPhone and then your mic into the Vocaster. Test with Riverside first though as some audio interfaces may not be recognized. If you're just doing solo recording, use the Ferrite app on iPhone to record, and then you can upload that to Riverside for editing!
fantastic video! hey...do you know of a small shot gun USB-C mic I could use with my iphone 15 pro max? a small one I can mount on top of the phone (I have a mount with a cold shoe adapter)..thanks!

Thanks for the great video. I'm having an issue that I don't know how to solve. When I plug in my microphone (tried both the Samson Q2U and the Blue Yeti), into my iPhone 15 Pro, I can record sound from the USB microphone on voice memos, snapchat, Camera etc, but once I open Riverside the microphone cuts out and I can only use the phone's built in mic. Same thing with Facetime and phonecalls- I don't even get an option to change microphones. Do you know what I should do here? Not sure what the issue is
Thank you for your videos! You have some great info to share. I got one for you. Is it possible to run a 2x lav kit (Hollyland Lark/DJI Go) as well as a usbc shotgun mic (rode videomic go 2) into the usbc hub system and capture all the audio? Even if a couple of sources share a channel? Also, do you know of any bluetooth controllers that can rock zoom in the Blackmagic Cam App?
Thanks! Unfortunately even through a USB hub, the computer will see the individual USB devices and Riverside will force you to choose one. You can use an app like Audio hijack though and record each of those USB devices into separate audio tracks like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cOA2Ex3AsCM.htmlsi=iJUfLGrvfrU6kxUp
When recording audio using an external USB lavalier mic into my iPhone 15 pro max (whether using the iPhone’s native video recording app or Filmic Pro 7), my audio gain is always painfully low. No change of settings, in Filmic Pro or any other app, seems to make any difference. I can’t find any information online about what the challenge might be. Do you have any ideas about what the problem might be? Do you suppose it could be possible I need a pre amp device hooked up between my lavalier mic and my USB input into the iPhone? Thank you for any advice you can offer. 😊
Hey Robert! Does the lavalier have a receiver it usually connects to? You may need something to boost the signal if not. Let us know what model lab you're using too.
I got the iphone 15 the standard 15, im trying to connect 2 different usb c mics, and they dont seem to work. am i missing something? does the usb adapter shown helps? usb c to usb c?
The iPhone won't be able to recognize two different USB mics at once. For multiple mics, you'll need a multi-channel audio interface like the one shown here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V0hKn9qHP-E.htmlsi=Lt0kmV6bCJe4JXHW
@@Riversidefm im not using both at the same time, im trying to make the rode pod mic work but it doesn’t work, but the wireless mic works perfectly fine! So would that plug works?
@@cgroyghave you tried connecting a powered USB hub to your iPhone? I use an iPhone XR with a dongle (charge and usb) and a powered USB Hub to connected everything I need. Having the dongle/hub also lets you charge your iPhone for longer sessions. Best of luck ✌️
Hi, I bought the ATR 2100 X and I plugged it into my iPhone 15 Pro and I plugged headphones in yet. It’s not monitoring my voice for some reason. Is there a workaround for this? when I first plug in the headset I can hear myself momentarily, but it cuts off my voice like I’m not talking through the mic,
I've just purchased a Sennheiser USB Profile mic (which connected via USB C) and after extensive testing, the mic works with all apps, except Riverside. Riverside iOS app refuses to use it and uses the iPhone mic only,
When you connect it to the Riverside app, do you see the Yes / No popup dialogue? I would suggesting connecting it *after* you enter the Riverside studio and see if the popup appears.
Hello! I’m trying to use my Blue Yeti Nano microphone and it doesn’t work in the iPhone app, I used in the iPhone camera and it works, same on the Riverside app for the laptop! Is there any option to use that microphone in the application via iPhone??
You can have the iPhone capture two people in a wide angle, or using our Secondary camera feature you could connect two iPhones to your Riverside recording! I explain that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1hRbYg_iXnk.htmlsi=Ggv5LNHkjFnekiGh
You *can* use an audio interface with iPhone 15, even something like the Rodecaster Pro II (4 channels), but keep in mind the Riverside app will combine all channels into one track. To have all the in-person guests separately, you'll need to record to an SD card or external SSD connected directly to your audio interface
@@Riversidefm thank you for the answer. Instead of a usb c anker can i choose something simpler without a the hdmi, micro sd and etc. i just need to attach the audio interface. Can you point me with your affiliate link id be happy to buy an anker that has only for audio interface.
The lightning port makes these kinds of setup less reliable as you need an adapter (Lightning to USB Camera adapter) and many mics will not work with that setup.
I had iphone 12 pro max and used my at2020 with it via camera adapter, m studio solo audio interface and usb hug, the quality was good but it was pretty quiet so i had to turn the power to almost 10 which made it sounds a bit worse than it could i think, but with iphone 15 pro max and straight with usb c cable sounds even worse idk why, and also quiet. Maybe anybody had this problem before. I know about phantom power, i have it on all the time on my audio interface, but it’s still quiet
That's strange. I don't believe there's a gain or volume knob on that mic. Try download the app Ferrite white has an option for mic volume control and see if you can get any more sound out of it.
Hi thanks for sharing this video, it is helpful. I recently bought iPhone 15 Pro that has USB-C connector. I wanted to connect Zoom PodTrak P4 via usb-c cable to iPhone 15 Pro usb-c and use the Zoom P4 to talk and listen to phone calls with headphones and xlr mic connected to Zoom P4. Do you know if this is possible?
@@Riversidefm I got my hands on a Zoom Podtrak P4 and just tried it and it doesn’t let me listen in on regular cellular calls or Zoom or MS Teams voip calls on Zoom P4 connected headphones. It does however pickup my voice from Zoom P4 connected mic and caller at other end can hear. I see in the Ferrite app Zoom Podtrak P4 shows up but iPhone regular calling app doesn’t see a headphone attached on Zoom P4. I tried the same setup with my iPad Pro and it works fine with VOIP calls (Google Voice, Zoom, MS Teams) and of course it works on my MacBook Pro. I see that Apple still sells USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter and I ordered one. Once that comes in I’ll give that a try with TRRS 4 pole 3.5mm cable connected to IPhone 15 and Zoom P4.
The Riverside iOS app doesn’t seem to have an option to tell it to use the external mic I’m using. It always defaults to the iphone mic & speaker. Is there any way to fix this? I’m on an iPhone 13 Pro Max
Unfortunately the only method that works for external mics on Lightning iPhones is a Lightning to Headphone adapter, and than a TRRS splitter. We show how to do that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-23pdnYRl6CM.htmlsi=Djnz5whEWFIGvgpP
My display hdmi out through Anker 8in1 hub look distorted with red hue, i tested other usb c -hdmi cable work fine, im using iphone 15, does anyone know why this happened?
It says “headphones” on the pop up but have you tried a recorded clip? It may be pulling the audio anyway. You can also download the Ferrite app for free and see if the mic is recognized.
I've tried with the standard camera app and the sound is being pulled the internal mic. i download Black Magic camera app, which gives me the option to change audio source, It appears 'Hyperx Duocast' on the list, but it does not allow me to select it...@@Riversidefm
@@Riversidefm I have tried to record a video and the audio is being pulled by the internal Mic. I downloaded Black magic camera app, which gives me the option to select audio source, but it doesn't allow me to select the Duocast. It shows the Duocast in the list, but I cannot select it. I have tested the mic in a Samsung via USB-C and it worked perfectly.
Do you know, why the audio quality with external mics is so bad on the new 15 pro max. Just bought USB-c adapters to all my mics, I used so far with lightningadapters, and now they sound, like I'm talking into a tin can....
Which USB mics are you using? One of the limitations is there is not gain control on the iPhone audio settings, so mics like an MV7 may need to be adjusted on-mic before recording.
You guys are liars. I bought that exact USB-C splitter, plugged an external mic into it, and your app refuses to use the external mic and gives me no option to change which microphone it’s using. Completely and utterly useless.
