UPDATE: Wow the new transfigured gems look AMAZING for clear / mapping. I will 100% be doing that instead of the Cluster/Inc AoE swap. I'll also be brainstorming on the pure phys one, the increase in base damage and 330% effectiveness of added is incredible. Holy mother. What gear crafting guides should I include for 3.23? So pumped, lets goooooo!
@@Yuukai probably the charm one and watered down assassin charms? We don't know what's available yet. Blood magic with the flat phys thing looks interesting but that would be a major deviation from this starter. The tincture one could be fun with the double defense from not having gems on your chest if you can get a psudo 6 link somehow and go for a massive evasion body armor with no sockets or abyss sockets
I haven't revisited Explosive Trap in a quite a while, it used to be my favorite build on Sabo and was my first ever Uberelder-killer leagues ago when like 10 people played it past level 95 ;) The damage for the budget is just too good. Now Fire Trap and Explo Shrapnel plus Trickster-combo finally caught my eye. Love the flexibility in gearing choices and progression. Excellent guide, lots of new stuff to learn (for me) and you present the important points in a concise to the point manner. Ran across your name by accident, wish I would have known earlier. Looking forward to the updates, gl next league :)
The fact that you manage to cook up maxroll tier build guild single handedly is pretty sugoi mate, will play it as my secondary build for heist/bossing strat. cheers and good luck!
I'm a bit of a sunblast enjoyer as of 3.22. League started it, it was amazing. Used it in ssf sentinel event. It was amazing. Took that character to standard and did a few variants. was amazing. Sunblast actually feels great when you get the feel of it. Edit: Glad you dropped this video. This was THE video I was looking for going into 3.23.
I love it. I may still run it in 3.23, we'll see how it goes. Not much of the build needs to change to use it, just be cognizant of overthrow and you are golden. I usually play with a bit of overthrow anyway for maximum dps uptime.
@@fearlessdumb0 I can see why Sunblast might be polarizing, but it gets comfy pretty quickly. For the ssf event I had a min rolled one (mid 50%) and even then that build still felt amazing. It just scales so damn hard and that sort of dps you can head into maps with will always outweigh a small change to the way you play. At least for me.
100% agree! I'm with you, it's my favorite unique. I used my voidstone supporter design on one I hope to find this league (well, buy off trade anyway, I doubt I'll open the chest)@@lolersthe4th880
They still go off, just on a timer instead. A perfectly rolled Sunblast will have a timer of 1s. Your Skitterbots will also trigger the traps when they're under enemies. It's a different playstyle than a normal trapper, you wan't to think of it like laying down a delayed AoE@@KenB2023
Wow, I’m in excited to try this out but more importantly excited to find a creator that goes over so much of how the build works , why choices were made, and how to upgrade it more.
This is only my second league and first full league. This build was a little rough through 20, but then really took off and im having a great time. The build guide is pretty solid, the problems are with me being so new. I have to take a lot of time researching how to do things(crafting etc.) others sure consider rudimentary. I'm having fun learning though, how to do things and I definitely do not regret starting this. I am slow leveling being new but it is only getting better as I go. Thanks for your work it is appreciated.
Just beat Kitava for the first time with this build (took me to partial health once). Man it is 'ballin. Being new I feel like im on my laptop researching things as much as im playing though.Unless they hit me with a wicked DOT im tanky AF. One question Dumbo..With High voltage where are we getting the ability to shock ememies to proc it.? Thanks for the build..I made the perfect build choice for me and you have my thanks. Am I playing Trickster again next league?..your F'n right I am.
This is hella late, but I didn't see this reply until just now. The answer is Skitterbots -- they will shock enemies for you, granting the additional crit chance@@gutbomb9072
Hey man! I'm playing private league with some friends since start and a week ago I started with Explo traps. I was about to drop it because I hit a wall and felt super frustrated, until I found your guide. It has saved me and I'm loving the build. Today I finished the +1 - +1 sceptre craft and hoooooooooly! That's insane! (its my first "endgame" craft I ever do). Thanks a lot for your content and the guide. It's super nice to understand and it allows me to bring to the end-game content smoothly. Thanks!!
Anyways thanks for the build, I was looking for something to fill the niche of old hexblast in terms of investments needed to skip uber sirus. So glad you decided to swap to arma lvling, thats giga fast
i think ill still roll with the sunblast for now. if i end up wanting the rare belt ill swap but i got so used to it last league. thanks for sharing the filter!!!
Been loving the detail in the notes. one small thing I don't see in the POB is brand recall, which is super powerful with armageddon brand during leveling
I did too much MF this league, I tried the gauntlet, it was way too hard, but Jungroan was very inspiring. I tried to learn about trickster. I ended on this video, it's my mirror drop, This video is a rare drop, is what you are looking for if you wnat to learn trapper
Your build was amazing last league. I really went full investment into it and had so much fun. Was leaning more to the boss deleter side with hunders of millions dps and it felt great. I really hope to see your new video about 3.24 and this time I may leaguestart it. I see that because of mana nerfs we may be forced to play EB or 2 rare rings with mana craft? Of course I'm talking about the endgame setup with MB, don't think much has changed for start or midleague. Either way looking forward to your ideas and thank you for your work! :)
Yea for MB you have more flexibility as you will have budget for things like Necromantic Aegis Impossible Escape and Focused Amulet with Elreon, so you might not need two rare rings with high budget.
While taking a look into the leveling section of the pob I found that in the written section it is missing some skills which are used in the skills overview from act2 onward. Was wondering why no herald/skitter in Act2 or Flammabiltiy Act3 and what the actual movement skill is. Completion wise it would be cool if these skills were added in the written notes. Maybe also a 4th link for arma brand, which is not too uncommon. Thx, looking forward to the final guide.
Thanks again for the great guide. Kinda sad that we are loosing the self chill until big investments but it still looks really nice. When in the gear progression would you recomment to switch to bossing or stuff like shaper guardian inviation farming?
That is going to depend on you, I will start running guardian maps with 2-3div invested as soon as I possibly can. I’ll run them white and blue invitations. If it takes forever and 5 portals I’ll go work on another piece of gear and come back. Usually a 6L and decently leveled explosive trap is enough but early league bossing in PoE is one of the few skill checks.
Hey, hope you are planning to do 3.24 update, because this build was on my favorite list for a while and I think it finally might be time to pull it off. :)
Hey thx a lot for the builds! Sry if it is a realy dumb question but since I never played this kind of build I wonder how you make profit once you are ready to kill bosses? Do you run boss rush strategy/atlas but run the looted map instead of selling it? Or buy maps in bulk and just doing bosses ? Any noob trap to avoid? Édit : i found your crucible video on the subject . Thx Again for the hard work!
Appreciate the guide. Planning to kick off the next league with this great build guide and wrap up this one, Do you plan to make a similar guide for the next league?
I am definitely starting this in Affliction and had three more quick questions: 1. What would the Support Setup look like, when using Sunblast? Just the standard one in PoB? 2. You say this build works with whirling blades. We would need to drop the Alternating Sceptre, though. Would we then get SoS from the Interrogation Jewel? 3. Would Hrimsorrow be an option for early/mid game conversion?
1) yes. You’ll need to manage your trap throwing speed though with that many Frenzy charges. Be careful benching it on gear as you can overthrow without realizing it. I cover this in my 3.22 guide if you are interested. 2) yes. I’ll be using whirling blades + rune dagger personally until I get an alternating sceptre because it’s so much faster. SOS from Interrogation is the only option if you want to keep it 3) sure but the glove spot is so strong that I wouldn’t use it personally. You only need 50% conversion and can get there entirely with 5 passive points that also provide a decent amount of damage and a benched prefix
@@fearlessdumb0 ^tyvm!! I was also wondering abotu your Auras. in PoB you have Herald of Ash, Skitterbots, Grace, Clarity AND Hatred. How on earth do you fit all those?!
discovering your channel before 3.24 patch notes dropping - and your guide / build looks awesome for my SC SSF journey. I wanted to know if you will update this guide for 3.24 or got any plans for it? subbed and liked 💪🏼
I would like to kindly give some couple feedbacks. You may consider pushing this build into the endgame in the ssf environment after maybe trade gets a bit stale. This can be a good series to watch. Also a filter maybe for people following your build also help and daily updates are very key instead of 3 to 4 days updates. Thanks for the video.
@@khalkageYes it is a default wishlist for people following his build. It equals to more viewership. I think he deserves more views. Since I am following him for a While. Thats all. I am not even playing this build.
So from my understanding, I can put together the League Start PoB with 5 divs or less, and do all regular content with it, right? I'm new player and never played traps, thanks! Edit: also do you have a loot filter to share? ty!
I was looking at the phys options as well. To me it screams eternity shroud but thats just because I've always been a fan of that item. Also maybe some spell impale memes.
Thanks for this awesome guide! I didn't have time during the week to choose my league starter, but your build seems very promising. Last league I made Pyroclast->Hexblast Saboteur build by CaptainLance9 and it was one of the best builds I've played so far. He also stated that Trickster is an awesome ascendancy, so I want to check it out. I have a couple questions to you, if that's not a problem: 1. Are you going to update the build or add some more info about Explosive Trap of Magnitute? It seems like a massive buff for mapping. 2. What kind of content we should avoid with this build? Not sure if it's all-rounder. 3. In your opinion, is Pyroclast Saboteur a good competitor to your build? I'm still considering one or the other, mainly because of how much I enjoyed playing Pyroclast build in the previous league.
1. TBD on Magnitude. It would require a bit of a rework since it's a pure phys skill but it's very promising. I want to explore a 100% cold conversion flavor of it but that will be something unrelated to this league start guide. 2. Clear speed content, for the most part. Legion, for example, is probably best left for the bow builds. It can be done it's just nowhere near as fun. 3. I've not yet played pyroclast sabo, so I can't say tbh.
@@fearlessdumb0 Thanks for the answer! I'm not really a huge fan of Legion nor Blight, and I want to focus mostly on bossing, so looks like I'll stick with this build. Cheers and good luck!
Thanks for the starter guide I'm going to try this as a starter this season. I'd like to use the sunblast I've used in previous seasons, would that require too many changes, and would it be bad to wear them?
Hey Dumb0, Thanks for the guide, wanted to give this a go to test as possible league starter for next league. I like boss rushing and harvest, so this should be perfect for that. Next goal for me is to farm uber bosses (never really had any success on previous builds) Can you share what level of gear/dps you start farming uber shaper? Do you by any chance have a video of Uber Shaper kill on early league gear?
I don’t have a minimal gear Uber Shaper kill recorded. During opening weekend I’ll do some Uber Shaper but I won’t start target farming him until I can do sub 5 minute runs which is usually day 3 gear. You could check my poe ninja profile for day 3 but I don’t have a PoB to share with you. Target dps is somewhere in the 25-30m pinnacle range, but usually I will do whatever boss content is most profitable early on (voidstone service, invitations, etc).
Thank for another great video! i've never played Ultimatum before so I'd like to focus on it this league, and the transfigured gem stuff also look insane so any thought on this build doing Ultimatum?
Maybe I missed it in the video, but what is the tradeoff between going sabo vs trickster? And how do you feel about the transfigured gems, what would change in the current state of the build?
Glad this is still bad a$$. Went ET a couple leagues ago and despite not having the currency to convert to self chill (console is more expensive).... it completely melted everything. I did pure physical to fire conversion and equipped 2 Synthesis unique ruby rings and both of them had the 2 damage mods
Any thoughts on wildwood ascendancy? I think it's an easy oath of the maji during the campaign for the potential movespeed and/or ele res, and maybe the suppress prevention is small qol against map modifiers, but otherwise nothing else jumps out at me for early on. I'm hoping for a little more direction when we get details for the Warlock nodes because I doubt I'll be able to afford any of the chase charms for Primalist.
They all look pretty bad for explosive trap, to be honest. The only things I can come up with are Anathema and running a 3rd curse from Warlock (but that's another button and very annoying, as well as making mana issues worse) or taking Barkskin from Warden for extra defense. Barkskin looks pretty middling, tbh. I'll probably go Primalist and hope there are some moderately useful charms I can get for low cost.
Explosive Trap of Magnitude looks like an incredible gem swap for mapping. Are there any changes you'd make with that in mind or no? Maybe it just fits right in?
Hey, this is a great build video. I've been playing on and off for a couple of years, but there's something I don't get. How do you Brittle and Sap and Scorch? As I understand it , you can either chill or brittle with direct damage, so something has to trigger that change, right? That's what I'm not getting.
Hey - thanks for the in-depth build guide. I've played POE for years but never got into bossing, just farmed maps the entire time. Do you have any guide for how to actually play through a season with such a build? Do you just buy frags/invitations for whatever boss you feel like farming and go at it?
Yep. Pick some bossing content you like and have at it. Lots of guides out there for the different boss encounters, I've done a couple on Twisted and Uber Shaper specifically, but you can farm any bosses with this build.
Great guide. But I gotta say, it's the first trapper I've ever played where I need to invest over 10 divs and still can't do the first T14 maven invitation.
That seems like something went sideways, are you past that or can you share a PoB? I started doing guardians with about 3div invested (albeit blue invitations). I can take a look if it would be helpful.
Another amazing guide :D Quick question - swift assembly on fire trap, I've never seen that. Is it really that good to scale the hit and just spam it instead of having a damage gem? Is that a corner case since you're using arma brand for leveling?
Numerically I think it's strongest (even though PoB doesn't provide any damage buff for Swift Assembly) because you get something like 60% more traps on the ground than you otherwise would. A very strong support is maybe only 40%. That said, it's fine to link a damage support if that's what you'd prefer. I've never felt like I was lacking single target.
Yea I'll probably do a more late endgame update a week or two into league. Lots of things will be similar to the min-max guide I did for 3.22, you can find a PoB there if you are looking for ways to push more dps.
I tried to follow your Build-Guide. However I had trouble reaching the 100% crit. In POB (tab CALC) your base-crit is e.g. (6 + 3) --> where does this +3 come from (it is not the mark)? Thanks again for your excellent guides. SOLUTION: Ah, I found it! It is the brittle effect from the Alternating Sceptre! ;-) Crit-calculations and e.g. CoC-Guides are not that easy ..
Hi bro, I love your guides so far! Im wondering how the difference is in clearing campaign between the old guide with fire trap + ele prolif + combist vs armageddon brand. Is it that much faster clear?
The thing I noticed when going arma brand was that the cast rate was considerably faster with no investment. It just felt faster. Fire Trap is an excellent skill choice for clear too, I'd still recommend it. I don't think there is a wrong answer here.
hey, very happy that i've found you. trying this build after lightning tendrils and subtractem's fire trap. and feels confrotable indeed. Kinda struggling with a damage scalling (not respecking tree and everything into crit setup). Any craft advice i could observe from your videos (weapon, helmet, cloves craft around 2-3 divs)? of any specific your video? Sorry if i missed that thanks in advance
Friend, thanks for the guide! I will start on this build. Tell me, kindly, will I be able to get into the early uber sirus? and approximately how much damage do I need for him to skip phase 3? Thanks :)
I really appreciate your guide. It looks pretty good. However I ran into a low damage phase at around white maps. I started to switch from armageddon brand to explosive trap at tier1 maps with a 4 link in SSF. Is this to early? What are the absolut mandatory items to start mapping with explosive trap? Alternating sceptre is a must have? I would be very happy if you go into more detail for the league start specific in the upcoming 3.24 update. Appreciate your effort. Thank you.
I'd keep Fire Trap / arma brand until you have enough crit chance to switch to explosive trap, which is probably going to be between level 75-80. arma brand / fire trap on a 4L is enough damage to clear yellows usually so long as you've got reasonably leveled gems and two +1 gem level weapons from the vendor recipe. Nycta's lantern is a good SSF weapon if you can find one.
Thanks for the awesome guide, looking forward to following it like last season. Just 1 quick question: Shadow doesn't get Armageddon Brand unlocked at lvl 28 correct ? At least that's what I'm encountering in this test and it's what the wiki says. Of course there is trading, just wanted to ask if I'm missing something or don't know enough things.
Good evening! Really appreciate your guide and I choose to league start this! Really hyped to try and min max it. You chose to opt out of one step ahead in your late maps section and dont really mention it anywhere. could it be due to having self chill in that section last league? Or is it still something to do just becuase the 2 frenzy charges are nice?
Sorry that’s an oversight on my part not mentioning it. 2 additional frenzy charges is superior once you get to a later maps setup in my opinion because it allows us to drop a support like Swift Assembly and grab a raw damage support instead. You should still be able to preload all (or almost all) of your traps on bosses. 2 Frenzy charges is a lot of extra damage.
@@fearlessdumb0 makes a total lot of sense :) Thank you really much, was just double checking if its really intentional or a fluke. Again thank you for the quick answer and hyped to see what more you will be doing with the new gem changes ;)
I got 2 questions. 1) Are you yourself going to play the sunblast version or the non sunblast this league start? 2) Have you tried doing a sanctum on your previous characters with this build?
Yes I’ve done sanctum with and without sunblast. It’s fine without a sunblast though certainly not as comfy as SWT or Hexblast mines. I would not attempt with a sunblast unless you are very mechanically skilled. I’m not sure on the sunblast yet. I’ll probably push on without one this league, I’ve leaguestarted with one the last four leagues in a row now.
Hi, great guide - I probably missed it somehow, but whats the plan behind when you wanna swap to explosive trap from your levelling setup? Is it a thing where you wanna get certain gear first, or do you do it right after hitting a certain level range?
What would you say the pros/cons are for your setup vs. Ziz in terms of levelling/gear progression? Thank you for the work you put into this! Still not sure if I’m ready to take the leap into a bosses vs. an all rounder but we’ll see lol
Ziz's is aggressively new player friendly, which is awesome for that group. I think the setup I am using is more catered towards someone who has played at least a few leagues and wants to push progression / bossing.
@@fearlessdumb0 Appreciate the swift response man, yea I agree. I am not a new player and to me some of the life/supp/es rolls he has even on his midgame setup are semi ambitious even via rog crafting. Think I'm gonna follow yours and focus on shaper early, the damage alone makes it able to still clear comfortably even if it's not a LA/TR/CF setup. Thanks again!
I don't. I just want to VC with guildmates and have a good time on league start. I don't have any streamer aspirations at the moment but I'll let you know if that changes.@@Mindalus19
You mentioned Ziz guide at the start of the video. I plan on using your vids and his as my league starter. Would his be a good guide to follow or should I really just stick to one or the other.
Nothing wrong with checking them both out. I'd try and avoid swapping leveling schemes in the middle of the campaign though, it'd be annoying to source reasonably leveled gems if you weren't using them in, say, A7. The best part about several people doing build guides is that more people playing them benefit. If you decide you want to go a tankier HC-style perspective on the build you can use a few regrets and spec into the extra life/evasion wheels he uses in his build, for example.
It's excellent, no particular reason. There are several excellent options for an extra couple passive points that are hard to choose between. For example, those same points to get to Clever Construction without a Thread of Hope could be spent grabbing the DD notable on the 8-passive phys cluster. Sometimes you just end up in a tug of war between more damage or life or evasion. Feel free to adjust things to however you prefer to play.
hello my friend, i only started playing last league and fell in love with boss rushiing, do you recommend this build to play with that purpose in mind? i like going fast and killing bosses with the guardian drop sextant
@@fearlessdumb0 that settles it for me then :D saw you have a video on minmax the build too which is great cuz i plan to play 1 build only, hope you dont mind me coming into comments everyday with silly questions chief xd
A level 21/20 explosive trap is worth about 10% more damage than a level 20/20. This league you want the quality, so make sure you don't vaal them without it. A 20/20 gem is more damage than a 21/0.
Hi, can you explain why are you choosing explosive traps over ice traps for example? Both have overlaping mechanics and both deal a ton of damage. From my experience, physical skills pop off later on with investment, I dont exactly understand why people prefer this over ice trap (which requires no conversion and scales easily with flat cold - which is easier to get vs added phys) Is the skill growth better for explosive traps? Meaning it deals more damage early? However this sounds extremely counter intuitive to me, a phys skill should start with low damage and ramp up very hard with investment ( basically higher ceiling) Or maybe its just pure preference? Or it was tested more often than ice trap? For ice trap, the only builds I see are ones with zdps boss deleters played as assassin or occultist.
@@fearlessdumb0 You mean that the scaling is bad? Im asking because I want to understand why explosive trap is extremely praised and why is the go to lately for traps. There must be some sort of diference vs ice trap. Maybe explosive trap has double the overlaps? Because im pretty sure there are 6-7 explosions written on the gem and ice trap has 3. That would make sense why its better as a leaguestarter and the other one as bosser, because ice trap freezes anything it touches and the dps is pretty much infinite anyway. So you get the freeze advantage. But idk, this is just speculation, I asked you because you have guides on explosive trap and you probably made a decision at some point (which trap is better for a trap character)
Sorry that wasn't clear on my part. The scaling is excellent for both skills and I think that on some level it becomes personal preference.@@GE_Photon_Lord
why is it trickster though? feels like raider should be much better for this variation of explosive trap in every aspect, if you go for slavedrivers. golemancer is also fine with the gloves because of lightning golem, and you can go low life with permanent rf and still be pretty tanky with bastion. both builds have incredible amount of attack speed on top of the other stuff, providing a juicy shield charge
I'm torn between this and Hexblast Mines for this league... hoping to transition to a Shaper Guardian Map farming strat. Hopefully I decide which one to play before league start tomorrow...
Also for SSF players in early maps how do we farm the clusters or is there an alternative for the passive skill three ? Appreciate the video and build !
Deli on atlas is the best way to farm clusters, this league you don't need the Enduring Composure one because the (POG!) added the Call to Arms support -- free Enduring Cry.
Hi, I'm just getting through Act 6 with this build but I have to ask: it doesn't seem like there's much physical mitigation against Attacks or DoTs on the build. Spell Suppression works on phys spells, but what about phys hits? Are we simply not supposed to ever be hit by an attack due to our very high evasion? Our low max Life also seems like it's easy to get instagibbed when an attack does manage to get through our evasion (which I think it eventually will due to entropy). On a separate note, is it advisable to use Hrimsorrow instead of the Cold convert mastery & wheel? It can save a number of points and also allows for Cold to Fire conversion via support gem perhaps? I was thinking that focusing on the ignite damage might make Polymath's regen more consistent as well since DoT kills are always attributed back to the player instead of the trap.
That’s why I love Kintsugi and Endurance Charges so much. Ghost Dance does enough for sustain if you spec fully into tankiness that I’m able to stand in T16s with just ES recovery. There are other mitigation layers available too, like Wind Dancer once you have enough evasion or the evade chance watcher’s eye which are reasonably priced. If you really wanted to, you could do more to invest in phys mitigation but I generally don’t. Defiance of Destiny is in the core drop pool now too, so that’s and option. As far as investing in ignite, once you get Secrets of Suffering you won’t be igniting anymore.
Question. This isn't going to be my league start but I'm interested in playing this build. I expect to want to set up a second build pretty early in week 1 so I figure I'll use a seven league maybe a goldrim and stuff to level, but what items would you suggest assuming you go into maps with a couple div?
Alternating Sceptre is priority one. A +2 gems chest probably after that, depending on their cost. I bought my +2 gems chest for 3D in 3.22 but it’s pretty variable.
Thanks for the guide! Looks fun! I'm not too familiar with POE and damage calculations but anyone have any idea why the desire to convert cold rather than fire or lightning?
Secrets of Suffering requires cold damage to apply the alternate ailment Brittle which grants additional base crit depending on the size of the hit and your ailment effect modifiers
It's a brilliant SSF bosser, I played it in HCSSF gauntlet to level 87 before ripping to being tired and pushing red maps. I've done it in SSF in prior leagues too. The one thing I'll say is that heist changes have made Alternating Sceptres more difficult to acquire (but not impossible). You can use an Interrogation jewel or a Galesight as alternates. Personally I think the Shrapnel gem is the best trap gem in the game right now, I'd choose that one.
