Accommodations -
Yeongil Beach Life Pension
Despite being a last-minute booking, we were very satisfied with this accommodation. The bathroom layout was unique, but the location was excellent, right by the sea, offering a great view and lots of fun. It has 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms. The building only has accommodations on top, with a restaurant downstairs. It may not be completely soundproof, but it didn't bother us much. The lack of an elevator and the presence of food waste and regular trash bins in front of nearby buildings made the surroundings a bit dirty and smelly when walking around. This is something the city should address.
Blue Light Resort
This was the most unique place among the accommodations we visited, with distinct pros and cons.
Pros:
They have a magic show, which was a hit with kids (not sure if they only do it on weekends or during peak seasons).
The owners are friendly.
Great for swimming; the water is not too deep even when you go quite far out.
There's a pier for eating or just enjoying the beach.
It has a private beach feel, so it's not crowded.
The floor was a bit damp, but when we turned on the heating for a while, it quickly warmed up.
There's an air bounce for swimming and a water slide.
Cons:
There are no keys for any of the rooms! The owner mentioned that the CCTV works well, so it's not an issue. They got rid of keys because guests often lost them while going to the beach, and it's hard to make keys in the countryside.
Even though we paid 220,000 KRW for the room, including additional fees for additional guests, they asked us to bring our own garbage bags.
There was only one thick blanket in the room. Even if you pay extra, they don't provide additional thick blankets, which made sleeping quite uncomfortable.
There's a strange wolfman figure at the entrance, which looks old and can be a bit surprising.
There are no decent restaurants nearby.
Overall, the facilities are a bit outdated.
The beach doesn't have sand, so you must wear shoes, and there's a risk of scratching yourself on rocks or coral.
Interestingly, there weren't many negative comments on Naver reviews. It was a bit surprising. It's not that we were completely dissatisfied or completely satisfied-it's a mix of both. It feels like they offer flashy options without adhering to the basics. Still, it was an excellent place for swimming.
Please consider these pros and cons when making your accommodation choice.
Restaurants -
Odae Seafood Raw Fish
I've almost described this place in the video. If you visit Pohang, I highly recommend trying it.
Daehwa Restaurant
Good value for money and delicious food. We went there early in the morning after watching the sunrise, and it seemed to have long queues during regular hours. I thought it would be perfect to have a meal there before my husband went to work (he starts early, and I like to sleep a bit more... hehe). The kimbap was delicious too.
Obremen
This place used to be an art gallery or something; the building itself is very beautiful. The high ceilings and stylish stairs made it a great place to sit down and enjoy some bread and coffee. However, there was a "No Kids Zone," which was disappointing. I understand why it's a "No Kids Zone" though, because otherwise, there would probably be a lot of kids running around. The bread was delicious, and although it's already a well-known spot, I highly recommend it.
Heyan Cafe
The first floor seemed to have low ceilings, but when you go up to the second floor, the ceilings are higher and brighter. However, typically, when you enter a bakery or a place that sells bread, you expect to smell the delicious aroma of bread, but here, the air freshener scent was too strong. It was stronger than in other cafes, and my friend and I found it quite curious. I think it would create a warmer atmosphere if they had the aroma of bread or coffee instead.
Space Walk
I recommend not going if you have a fear of heights. Still, if you take photos, they turn out really nice.
Janggi Restaurant
We enjoyed the food here very much. We wanted to order delivery as shown in the video, but it seemed they don't take delivery orders anymore. It was a bit disappointing. This place is known for its rich beef stew, just like a famous beef bone soup restaurant in Jeju. They also have a "No Kids Zone." They mentioned it was because of concerns about children getting burned, so I guess it's a similar reason here. I plan to visit again when I go back to Pohang.
