Respect the "X" is one of those principles of the game that we believe applies to all play. You can break the "X" but you better have a good reason for doing so.

very evenly matched teams, along with a close well played point. i have to say the serving team played an almost perfect point. And it's hard to beat that. I think that hard deep serve set up that team for winning this point. always enjoy the analysis and great tips. keep up the good work.

Respect the X is a great concept. But most partners I play with don’t understand. They use “forehand takes the middle” or “it’s your shot if it’s on your side of the court”. I can’t seem to get across the concept of the X. Guess that’s why we are still at 3.5 level. Anyway, this was a great example. Thanks.

Same here. Great concept but often hard to implement unless you have a consistent partner who gets it.

What if there’s righty and lefty on the near court. If the white-shirted player is left-handed and blue-shirt is right-handed, does that change the play here? My husband (lefty) and I (righty) run into this scenario a lot and have yet to figure out the best strategy.

I think Tony made a significant point when he said the ball is coming to the player on the left & moving away from the player in the even court on the right, rather it’s your forehand or backhand that you will use....
