Great Video John, thanks a lot. Picked up some nice tips there...

Thanks Tom. I've already recorded a whole new series for the CONTRABIM Membership site I'll be dropping in the next week. Modeling of a commercial space for a new restaurant buildout!

Great video, any chance you could do a prequel video showing how you prepared the point cloud. That would be very useful 👍 😀

@@miyahollands6136 Thanks for the comment. I did a 9 part series on the Trimble Realworks registration and production work. Check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eb-UI8hte0Y.html

Hi John, I really enjoy this tips from you. I have a question, do you have like a suggestion(playlist)for progressive learning for someone following your videos?
@CONTRABIM
@CONTRABIM 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for comment! The RU-vid channel is a bit of a scattershot of different types of Archicad based tutorials. On the CONTRABIM membership site, I have more detailed, progressive type trainings specifically on how to use the CONTRABIM template and methods. But it's something on my goals for 2024 to do an intro course that goes through a buildup in sequence.

Hey mate, can you please do a video on what specs your'e using on your workstation. What does it take to run something like this smoothly? Thanks
@CONTRABIM
@CONTRABIM Год назад
Thanks for the comment! That is a great idea. The specs on my laptop are probably better than most laptops, but I don't think you need any crazy high end hardware to run this smoothly. BTW, I have a Lenovo P51 laptop, with mobile Xeon E3-1535, 64 GBs RAM and Nvidia Quadro M2200. The CPU and RAM and probably the most important, but 64GBs definitely not needed. It does help though especially when running multiple big files, and recording at the same time.. Thanks!

Thanks for all your work John! I wonder, is there a way to rotate separate pointclouds in Archicad and still let it be correct considering the ucs? I have a imported building wich consist of three different pointclouds, and now I would like tot rotate it 180 degrees (so the front of the house is on the other side) but then the first floor is out of place... Thanks!
@CONTRABIM

You could rotate your view 90 degrees, or grab all the point clouds and rotate them from the 0,0 point 90 degrees together, so they stay in the same position relative to each other. Best way would be to rotate them in the point cloud software prior to import though in my opinion.

Super Video ! What do you use to make your pointclouds ?

I used a Trimble X7 scanner, and realworks in this case... Thanks for the comment!

Can you make a video how to creat green wall for interior and exterior use surface or anything else
@CONTRABIM
@CONTRABIM Год назад
Sure, I'll look into some Green Wall manufacturers and we can model something based on a real product. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have just started working in Archicad and on my first point cloud. It is just 330mb cloud. And I have a good laptop (64GB RAM, i7-11850H, RTX A4000). At first when I imported couple of clouds in different Archicad files and just had some fun with them looking around all worked quite ok. 3D had some slowness, but plan view, section and elevation was good and snappy. FOr some reason now navigating on all views is very slow and sluggish (and I did not model anything yet). Sometimes it becomes fast again and then randomly slows down to the point of unusable. I have tried a bunch of things. Even setting computer power to best performance and creating new files with new imports of cloud. And it still persists. Do you have any suggestions why this might happen?

Hi Denis, thanks for the comment and question. I have a few ideas to check. 1) Make sure you don't have any trace references turned on, this can slow down Archicad alot as it's generating double the view settings. 2) If you're not working with the point clouds, assign them a layer and turn them off! 3. Adjust the depth section of your displays, so that you limit the number of points you're actually displaying. You can do this in elevation and section with the depth setting, and in floor plan by setting in the point cloud object itself, or through the floor plan cut plane settings. Try these few things and it should speed things up! Also, may want to check your Work Environment settings, and turn down your backup save from every move, to every 5 minutes, this could also help.

@@CONTRABIM Hey. Thanks for the suggestions. I think the issue was with latest update. I reinstalled Archicad from the installer which rolled back one latest update that came through Archicad interface and after that all started working well.
