Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is an amazing coastal park in the Carmel / Monterey area. The park protects some of the best coastal trails in California and in this video we hike four of my favorite trails. The trails are Cypress Grove, Sea Lion Point, Bird Rock / China Cove and Whaler Museum. This is one of those parks that you want to plan a half to a full day at and be sure to get there early as it often fills up. Let me know what you think of Point Lobos in the comments.

The state of California should be paying you for your awesome work showcasing the state. As a native no longer living there your videos bring back childhood memories of my time there.

I scuba dove there dozens of times while growing up in the early 1970s. It was my favorite spot. There are some underwater caves in whalers cove we would explore. Now that I'm in my early 70s and live 1500 miles away, watching this makes me realize i should go back.

Never thought I'd enjoy visiting California until my wife pushed to go last year. We stayed in the Carmel Highlands in a studio apartment that overlooked the pacific. I live on the Georgia coast but I have never seen anything as beautiful as the big sur coastline. We went to point lobos twice . I will always return to this part of the California coastline.

Surely one of my favorite spots on the US westcoast! The combination of the beautifully shaped rocks and trees is a photographers dream come true! Seen seals and lotsa birds (on Birdrock) when I was there, also butterflies and hummingbirds :-)

Point Lobos state park is world famous. The rugged coastline is so awesome. I love taking the cypress grove trail and looking out for otter moms with their babies. First time I went was in the deep coastal fog. Made the cypress trail like something out of an Ingmar Bergman film. The trails you did today are what I consider the best trails in the park. Thanks for posting

I started following you about 3 to 4 years ago because you had some amazing travel videos of the coast and stuff along the PCH. I had originally planned a PCH trip back in 2020 and it still hasn’t happened yet but I’m hoping next year! And I’m just happy to see you still post stuff of potential stops along the PCH, it gives me hope and excitement for my trip which will happen one day! 😂

Not quite. It is beautiful yes of course but Oahu Hawaii is to die for. Also the drive going to Moab Utah is like going to another planet with rock formations I've never seen anywhere. It kind of scary because it made me feel like I got abducted in Mars or Venus whatever, looking at mountain high weird rock formations.

What a fun video. I've only been to Pt. Lobos for the SCUBA diving. The kelp forests are interesting to explore from below the surface, but an absolute CHORE to try crawling over on the surface. Anyone who plans to dive here should be competent at underwater navigation.

I loved this vid! I had no idea there was a museum, I'm gonna have to go there next time. In highschool we used to go swimming at china cove where the seals were so when you said you'd be down there too I started laughing 🤣🤣 idk if the steps are still there tho? Unless it was a different area but it looked the same. A really small and private area. We used to swim out around the rocks and go into the beaches in the little caves. It was kinda gross to go thru all that seaweed tho, but cool to see the seals on the rocks. I'd never do that now tho, I guess sharks pass by & I had no idea 🤣😬😬. It's still so beautiful out there. 😍😍

It's also good to note, RV's are not allowed in this park. They would have to park out on hwy 1 and walk in. Great video Josh! ~Lucy

Terrific vid as always. To respond to your SCUBA question, Pt. Lobos is grand to dive at...but you must have reservations. The cove just to the north is Monastery Cove-no rez necessary. Great diving too, but you have to exit doing the "Monastery Crawl". It's a very deep drop off as soon as you enter the water and unless you know the "Crawl"-folks drown there regularly. Don't enter either cove's water unless you're experienced in hazardous water exits.

Birds like to nest and raise young on islands because the coyotes and other predators can't get out there. Mono Lake has an island that naturalists are trying to protect by allowing enough water inflow to prevent a land bridge predators could use to prey on birds nesting there.

Insane how people bash California “Texans” for some reason we live rent free in their heads, but all they talk about is LA and the San Francisco Area, but that’s only like 10% of California, i wouldn’t leave the west coast for a shitty Lolong state like Texas or any of the south where they pay the average person $8 and hour 😂 I made that when 17 in 2011 at my first job, the people that leave are either broke and don’t want to try harder to actually make good money or they just bias and hate the laws, the people from the south never want to talk about how the top 10 lowest GDP states are in the south and that the south has the worst abandon homes, streets, and building problems.
