What people tend to not realize as this type of sparring is a small percentage of a whole training. Point sparring is equivalent to fencing 🤺. The objective is not to destroy your opponent, inflict mass damage, or even a knockout. It to build reaction, timing and speed. When you incorporate the benefits from point sparring to a full contact training, then you have already checked off the speed and precision aspect of combat. Then it’s time to add the power in the correct moments for the knockout. 27 years in both full contact and sport point sparring has given me best of both worlds. Keep on fighting warrior. Encountering Ignorance will always be a part of the journey
“The term “martial art” is thrown around a lot without any idea of its meaning. “Martial” means “war” or “conflict.” In a martial arts dojo we train for conflict. Without physical and psychological conflict there is no “martial” in martial art. Fear, to be overcome, must be confronted and experienced. Fear must become part of your life experience. Appreciation of fear and the appropriate reaction when confronting fear is the sign of a mature martial artist. Are not your dojo mates and teacher the ones that you should ultimately trust when learning to confront your fears? In a real dojo, they are. Remember that most people who call themselves martial artists are nothing of the sort. Most dojos are not martial arts dojos either. They are glorified social clubs thriving in an environment of emotional stimulation which is heightened by a false or extremely limited perception of danger. When real danger shows itself in such a dojo, the participants run for cover. In a real dojo the participants run towards the conflict” Yukiyoshi Takamura, Takamura-ha Shindo Yoshin-ryu
Kids learn this junk. Spend 5 .....make that TWO years getting a black belt. Then get beat up by their sister. Its just terrible. Karate ruled till the helmets gloves footpads shinguards and shazam GI's came out.
Bro do u really even think that karate students will use point fight techniques to fight in a real fight? Well no, usually karate, tkd, and other martial artist fight like full contact in real life, not like point fight
@@haru4036 Chibana Sensei: "In the old days we trained at karate as a martial art, but now they train as a gymnastic sport. I think we must avoid treating karate as a sport or as a mere physical exercise -- it must be a martial art at all times! During practice, one should forget everything and gather one's spiritual energy together so that the head, eyes, hands and feet become united. Your fingers and the tips of your toes must be like arrows; your arms must be like iron. The fingers and toes should become like spears so that a single kick or a single punch can kill. This is the spirit you need in order to progress in your training. To achieve this goal takes long, constant and careful practice; overdoing things will only result in harm. With age the body gets stronger, but on reaching the 50s and 60s, one must slow down; then a different kind of strength develops." “You may train for a long time, but if you merely move your hands and feet and jump up and down like a puppet, learning karate is not very different from learning a dance. You will never have reached the heart of the matter; you will have failed to grasp the quintessence of karate-do.” - Gichin Funakoshi
I'm all for point sparring , but there needs to be a rule that only techmiques classified as an actual strike be counted. Running in/diving in with your hands out should be a no go.
I started in karate at 16. i started in muay thai when I was like 32. i will always love karate but it really isnt very good as a fighting style, there are some moves that are effective, especially open hand and knife edge strikes, but the accuracy needed in actual combat limit these techniques. If you wanna kick someones ass learn to kick their legs out ie muay thai. look up the legendary karate champion Rick Rufous vs muay thai champion Changpuek Kietsongrit back in the 80s.
@@LifeofBreelnah, man. I have done Karate and i'm not against it. But you just can't tell someone "come train" after they watched this video. You will just be made fun of 😂😂
@@VIG_GT in case you mean it as "This is so bad that it cannit be called Karate" then you are right and wrong at the same time, modern Karate is more of a self perfection art rather than a fighting art. Instead of being better than an opponent, you want to be better than you current self; is that something that i enjoy and would dedicate my life to? Not really, but it is what it is In case you think that this is literally another martial art like Taekwondo, Kempo, Silat or Choy Li Fut. It isn't, this was done on the ISKA (international sports karate association) and these two are Karate practitioners. And even if this was not Karate, my point would still stand, right?
Point fighting Is point fighting. Its not full contact but if u can still use parts of it in a real fight. Keep in mind these guys are not punching or kicking with strong force theyre just tapping the opponent.
Hello , Question - why is this considered a Martial Art , when it lacks any and all connotations of a Martial Art , in fact it is as you stated just a " game of tag" .Martial= Military, War , Combat. One of the many problems with these “ Open tournaments” there is no cognition of standards of proper/correct techniques. I have observed , video after video , a total lack of ‘ Body Dynamics ‘ , ‘Efficiency of movement’ , . There is no Kime, no Zashin, no Koshi-Waza, no Kamae , no concept of Ikken Hissatsu, Sorry there is no evidence in the video of an efficient Tsuki not once is there a Gyaku-zuki or a Oi-zuki . I would recommend doing research on authentic Okinawan/Japanese Karatedo or other authentic Asian Fighting disciplines. Look up Nihon Karate Kyokai from the 1970's & 1980's . Thank You
that one where he tapped his face with his foot and was awarded three points....the rules should be changed to intentional significant strikes. or more correctly, actually interpreted correctly by people who have been in a real fight and know that foot slap wouldnt have done anything and ignore it
Guy in purple has a mean blitz! Yall complaining but point sparring isnt full contact. Its POINT sparring. Yall sound stupid and have no idea what your talking about lol just because someones good at point sparring doesnt mean they cant fight full contact. Raymond daniels is a good example of that. Keep up the good work both of you!!
@@Charles-xd6lw It seems you thought it was like real fighting and then got disillusioned when you realized it wasn't? Even though you were good at it? Your feelings are understandable but maybe you just didn't understand what it really was. Which wouldn't be your fault because the way a lot of us learned martial arts was confusing.
