The dancers in the first two reels are Georgian Dancers. Mtiuluri is a celebration but a competition when they do a lot of tricks (like dancing the toes/knuckles and landing on their knees). This dance is reminiscent of a festival in the mountains.

Btw the first time I saw this live was in a Cirque Du Soleil show called Varekai years ago. It introduced me to that along with many styles of Georgian Dancing 🇬🇪 🕺💃 Study and appreciate dance history!

landing on their knees...O_O I...I hope they have some special technique which makes it safe to do because that sounds scary af right now

@@namtellectjoonal7230 the secret is to land on your shins and the upper side of the foot, and the weight is distributed evenly on as much surface as possible. That way it can be done safely and it is actually not painful. As long as you don't mind accidental bruises...
@lenavanhalen8446

Do they have anything (like special shoes) that makes the dancing on the toe knuckles easier or less painful? Because this look like it is so uncomfortable 😖 I tried to find information about it on the internet but couldn’t find anything.
@RaphaConrad
@RaphaConrad 2 года назад
@@lenavanhalen8446 Based on the information of one of the dancers (who was part of the show), they do wear knee pads. Also they (the gentlemen) do wear shoes similar to jazz shoes under the leather part. Think of it like toe pads for pointe shoes.

Yes, but they’re not laughing at him. They’re laughing with him, enjoying the whole unexpectedly exceptional performance! Hope he didn’t suffer too much for it the next day (however well he did as a one off, the boys aren’t used to the kind of toll it takes on their feet)

I’m nowhere near the amount of experience you have, OP, but honestly, it’s a form of art I’ll probably never fully get over. Basically, runways are filled with walking abstract paintings, collages and sculptures. The fashion that’s actually more on the “practical spectrum” (Basically anything that isn’t like the wacky stuff I see) interests me more

I'm not a dancer but a few years ago before I started getting genuinely interested in ballet I thought that all male dancers danced in pointe shoes. it seems totally normal to me. on top of that they are amazing at it!
@npats550
@npats550 2 года назад
Wow! That last guy. Just DAYUM! Beautiful dancing. Even attempting the easiest part of the Rose Adagio, ( the attitude without the promenade and without the four partners to adjust to which is so difficult but must help balance on that foot for so long- like a barre)...props dude. Even the tiny slip after the second, I think was because everyone was laughing so much, and the third dancer just wasn't ready. That's my version and I'm sticking to it! Even though I am not a dancer. But it was the simpler moves that I adored. Just the (sorry if I get the terms wrong), ronde de jambe a terre, and into bourees- exquisite to watch. Stunning. And the guy who flies into the air; There must be a measurement line for how high qualifies as a jump- like pole vaulting, or the high jump in pro athletics without a springboard right? That guy crossed it. I demand a dance off ("Leap" off-gedd...nvm), with Superman. No cheating with the freakin cape acting as a parachute letting you linger in the air for longer either Mr Superhero!

I thought the last fellow was beautiful! The girls were giggling, but my jaw dropped. A triple... surely he's practiced this, he couldn't have just borrowed a pair and launched himself! Sir, you're beautiful and graceful, strong without being muscle bound. I hope you keep doing this. I couldn't tell if you were joking or serious, but you made my jaw drop. Pure beauty and controlled grace.

The first two are a type of Georgian traditional dance. Every region has a slightly different form with different stories told through movement. Wait until you find the swords! Literal sparks! There is also a lot of jumping onto the knuckles/pointe from a low or kneeling position... hard-core toes!

I am really happy that I saw my Georgian culture in your video 🙈 I don't know what first dancers name is but he is dancing Lezginka. the second dancer is Davit Chanishvili from Georgian national ballet "Sukhishvilebi". men dancing on nuckles is big part of Georgian dance and culture. they use special little protectors for their toes. it's something like we use under our Pointe shoes. you should definitely react to Georgian dance once, you would be waay more impressed 💗 love you so much💓

I’ve been out of Irish for a few years now, so I’m not sure how much the choreo has changed, but I used to spend a decent portion of time en pointe in my hard shoes. I found that the platform on my shoes pulled me back from my center in all the brands (there are a couple new ones I haven’t tried, so I can’t speak to all current styles), so when I was en pointe I had my weight so it was balanced between the block and my toes, though more often shifted further toward my toes than back. I never used toe pads, though they were just starting to be sold at dance competitions just before I retired, but when I was doing intense workshops, I did use a combination moleskin, blister bandaids, and athletic tape to protect my toes/nails from the repeated impact and add some cushion during the extra time drilling steps. I never did it preventatively during workshops so I could maintain my tolerance for those sensations, but I did protect all toes when the first blister showed up.

The first two reels are of Georgian dancers. This style of dance can be found in Georgian, Circassian and Chechen dance. Yes, the shoes are leather. They are sometimes padded, but basically you are dancing on your knuckles. Both men and women do this( 😁 I used to do it all the time). If you do it correctly, you don't feel pain. There are techniques involved to reduce pain😁 👍🏻 Hope this helps provide some insight to our cultural dance 😁👍🏻

I did Irish dance for a few years as an adult. I found the whole hard shoe distributes the weight when on point. Some weight on the toe, but a lot on the heel and top of the foot, too. Smaller dancers get way up on their tippy toe in soft shoes, too. I wish there had been an Irish dance shoe fitter when I was dancing. I never felt like I wasn’t fighting my shoes.

Hey, you probably won’t read this but I wanted to put a comment anyway. A while ago now I saw some of your videos, and I became completely obsessed with ballet in a time where, though it was a bit stupid as I’m still young, I felt like I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life. Though I was a late starter, I started classes in my local ballet school was soon as I could. Ballet makes me so happy and it makes me even happier thinking about how if I pursued ballet could make other people happy too. I have been doing pre-pointe lessons for a while now, and I have been told by my teacher that me and my classmates will be going en pointe soon! I’m so excited, so I just wanted to say how thankful I was that you brought ballet into my life, and I’m sure that this channel has done the same for others. Sorry for the cheesy and long comment baddies :>

He came to our studio WAY late to be a dancer, like age 12 or something like that, and by the time he graduated high school, he was on his way to Juilliard. The guys dancing on their knuckles is a form of Caucasian dance from the Georgian Republic. When I was in a dance company called Khadra, we performed those dances and because I had strong and flexible feet from ballet, I used to train the guys to achieve the strength and flexibility required to perform those dances. The boots are only leather that is very snug (like a leather sock). I would have the guys use lambs wool to help buffer the impact, especially for the jumps. This was back in the 1970's and 1980's. Oh, and BTW, we used to do a kind of Sadie Hawkins version where the ladies would dance on knuckles/point according to their abilities and the men would be doing the gliding around the room looking demure.

There’s different types of haute couture fashion. The more common is like what your would see at a Dior or Channel show. Meant as a standard that prete Porte should aspire to. Then there’s Fashion as an artistic medium which was what you were viewing. It’s not meant to make sense or to be worn on the street or even to parties. It’s art. One of my favorite haute couture artiste is The Chinese designer Guo Pei. She’s phenomenal and her art is more wearable than most. She designed the beautiful gold gown Rihanna wore to the met gala several years back. He shoes are beautiful but would no doubt be brutal to wear. She has a lot of ancient Imperial China influences.

For Irish dancing I find that it gets wayyyy too hot in the shoe with toe pads so I only wear them when I’m getting bad blisters or if the shoes are really dead.

Dancers in the first two look like they're from Georgia/Armenia/Azerbijan. There's a couple really cool documentary videos on it! And Irish dancer's have no shank - so they typically just "pop" up onto the toe and don't balance really.

Josephine, just out of curiosity. Did you do any modeling when you were younger or even now? Are you modeling now? You are absolutely STUNNING! (It’s a shame I have to say this) Speaking as a Straight woman,I have always thought you are absolutely beautiful inside and out. You have Such a sweet spirit and it comes across on camera. It is Such a pleasure to watch your videos. I’m a retired dancer (62) so watching you is a joy. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and passion with the world. It is so uplifting and Always makes my day! You keep me inspired to keep dancing. I have my grands in the studio dancing now as well. ( I still have my pointe shoes, several pairs as a matter of fact, even some of my jazz and lyrical ensembles. LoL) Thanks for the inspiration!

My mother says the words Toe Shoes come from you being one 1 toe in the shoe. I never understood that well but I know now its an old term but I still like to use it.

I like this one as one of the best reaction videos. You seem a bit either silly this day or cranky 😂. A nice range of emotions here. The greeen shirt cup guy… they need to stop tagging you. He’s just falling I’ve seen him a few times on reactions

I can explain this fashion show: They're trying to look as close to Ikea furniture as humanly possible.
