As a Marine who left the military in the mid 90s, I was welcomed home and thanked. Vietnam Vets were treated like crap. Spit on, called baby killers, abandoned by their government. Let this song remind you that even though the government says, thank you for your service, they don’t care about you. There are way too many homeless vets and veterans not receiving the medical attention they need. As the decades pass and veterans are promised help, it remains the same, no help from the government. To the Vietnam Vets who weren’t thanked, I thank you

Brett is a great person . He was doing a show in greenville sc when he got a call before the show began . His grandfather had passed away right before the show . No one knew this until about an hour into the show . He sat down on stage and started crying . He told us what had happened . He was very close with his grandfather . He said he decided to do the show instead of going back home . He dedicated a song to his grandfather and sung it setting there on stage crying .There wasnt a dry eye in the place by this time . He played on that night and finished the show . Awesome show I will never forget . Rock on Poison .🤘

Agreed, C.C. could compete with anyone from that era without doubt. As she says in the video, those guys from that time could pull emotions from a single cord, it wasn't all about speed and technicalities, it was about the story telling, thank god I grew up then instead of now 😅

To me, CC's guitar solo sounds like someone crying. Its sounds like someone sobbing heavily, ugly crying, and a scream at the end that fades away. You don't listen to it, you FEEL it. Love this reaction!

Absolutely, I was just thinking the same thing. I think CC was never given the credit he was due. Even in their more fun songs, his playing was spot on, but the way his guitar wails and screams and cries in this song, especially during that solo, is fantastic. She touched on it... even more than the heavy and somber lyrics, CC's playing is what makes tears swell up when I listen to this.

This is a great song. There are two stories in this song. The first verse about Vietnam vets but the second verse that starts 'My Best Friend Died a lonely man...' is actually written about his body guard and friend James Maano who had died. Those are pictures of him in the clip and were added without Brett Michael's knowing and he got very emotional while filming this which can be seen..
@jvidalw
@jvidalw 10 месяцев назад
actually, there are 4 stories: the first is about televangelist scammers, the second about a vietnam vet, the third about his friend that died and the fourth is about poor people and the inequality between them and the rich who live only "a mile away"

For reference, this song was several albums into their career, at a time when the band was "growing up" lyrically and musically. Their earlier material isn't anywhere near this dark or deep. They were basically a sillier Motley Crue in their early days.

The bit he sings about his best friend is true. His bodyguard, and he was the guy in the video clips you see playing. Next time you see somebody with a Nirvana or GNR please just ask them what is their favorite track. Sit back and see how they react. I guess what I'm saying is as a student that most kids don't even know what they're wearing other than "it's cool. " Give me a Nirvana song or give me a GNR track. They did an acoustic version as well, that has different lyrics, but still hits just as hard. Most of their songs are more upbeat, Nothin' but a Good Time, Unskinny Bop, Talk Dirty to Me are more of their fun songs, and their biggest track (commercially) is Every Rose has it's Thorn. Its more about how as the band became famous it made other relationships suffer. They have a ton of great songs!

Love your reactions! Poison made my last year of High School so much fun. Their first album alone had so many hits, and that's rare for a band to do. Talk Dirty To Me, Unskinny Bop, Nothin but a Good Time, and their cover of Your Momma Don't Dance, are all bangers. They also have another amazing ballad called Every Rose Has Its Thorn. I think you'll love all these tunes. I've also heard that Brett Michaels is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. It's said that he's amazingly humble. When I graduated in the late 80's, Vietnam still affected a lot of people. So when, "something to believe in" came out, it really touched a lot of people with military families. And even the homeless issue did as well as many of those vets were homeless for years after they came home. Even some more current vets end up homeless when their PTSD is too difficult for them to manage a normal life. Thank you for the hard work you put into your channel. Watching you experience and like the music I grew up with is really kinda amazing. I'd like to recommend "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Warant. They, too, are an amazing band, and I think that Brett Michaels and Jani Lane (Warant's lead) sound and look a lot a like. Jani's story is quite amazing. He passed away in 2011 from cancer, I believe, and he too has always been regarded as a super nice guy.

CC generally gets a bad rap as a guitarist, probably mainly cause back in the day he had a bad drug problem and was pretty sloppy live, but sober CC is an incredible guitarist and writer. One thing about his solo's is every note is there for a reason, and he is really good at his solo's being a reflection of the song/story. Another amazing emotional solo is Poisons' Life Goes On, from the same album as Something to Believe in. It's considered by many as his best solo. And it's another really great ballad, not as "heavy" but still a really good ballad. But they also have their "fun" songs too, like Talk dirty to me (when they were really heavy into the glam), I Won't forget you, I want Action, Nothin' but a good time, Fallen Angel, Every Rose, Unskinny Bop, Ride the Wind...

The part about his friend dying lonely was written a week or two after a friend of his had committed suicide, and that part of the song was the band's trying to come to terms with it. When I first heard it, I was surprised a hard-rocking band put a slower song out, and yet, I consider it now to be one of their best. In a time of "party all the time" songs, it was something different, and something that made many of us take a look at the world around us and see the consequences that go with the good in life.

I loved your face during C.C.'s guitar solo lol, I will always defend that his name should be in any conversation for the most talented guitarist ever.

For a party Rock Band to deliver something so personal to them was highly underrated at the time. CC's solo is haunting. If you want another that smacks you in the guts, try 'I Saw Red', by Warrant

You nailed it exactly a guitar solo is supposed to be. It should be like the guitar starts singing. cc Deville is a very underrated. His solos always compliment the song.

It’s a great guitar solo. The instrumentation adds so much emotion, you’re correct. You won’t hear it anywhere in todays music

One thing that never crossed my mind at the time because, well, it was new. Vietnam had been over less than twenty years when this was released

At 2:25 the guy standing behind him was his best friend that died he's singing about. He got the news while on tour and then he wrote this song in the middle of the night on his tour bus.

Yeah, the guitar solos are what makes these 80s songs so memorable to people. It’s a subconscious thing most people never realize. I’m amazed you actually caught it. In this song the solo brilliantly screams agony and loss, yet sounds amazing and beautiful at the same time.

I like listening to these 1980s and 1990s ballads. I think it's about time for someone to please bring back these old school rock ballads since my generation is wanting

Great reactions and you are right on about the solo. Cece is a genius, very underrated. For me, this song's solo is up there with pink Floyd comfortably numb (which is by far the best example of a guitar solo as a voice in the song), which you should check out if you don't know it.
