Unova: Ash loses to Cameron when the latter's Riolu evolves into Lucario in the middle of the match and defeats his remaining team. Alola: Ash defeats a Lucario without losing a single Pokemon. Also, Torracat evolves AFTER defeating Incinaroar so the evolution doesn't feel like Plot Armor. Kalos: Ash loses to a trainer with a fully evolved fire starter that stumbles briefly before standing while Greninja goes down to a Blast Burn. Alola: Torracat not only absorbs a Blast Burn; but after his final clash with Incinaroar, he stumbles briefly before standing while Incinaroar goes down.
@@thetabbyguy921 Guzma definitely knows it, since it's his best and most trained pokemon, that also reflect his own weakness and insecurity. That's why most of his fight he didn't let Golisopod take too much damage, and always take the inititive, not only to keep it morale high, but also to prevent it from freaking out and retreat using Emergency Exit

@@geartime5383 Bruh the character development that the Pokemon had in Sun and Moon was honestly better than Diamond and Pearl and XY even if it didn't make Ash's battle escalation like other league. The character development between Pokémon that was near equally spread among all the Pokémon was worth the victory which all the Pokémon didn't get in other seasons except the star Pokémon. In my opinion Ash should have won Sinnoh not so much Kalos because I think Alan is the better trainer with Mega Charizard at that point compared to Ash with Ash Greninja which he had just mastered... However he could have won that battle as well tho considering the XY anime was so battle focused and on Ash as a trainer. Also this Pokémon season being entirely Slice of life show the chill episodes were expected when almost all the episodes come back to serve some purpose throughout the show. Almost all episodes furthered all the characters' in one way or another growing or was in service of another story arc like Solgaleo arc and Poipole and Necrozma arc. Even Ash grows to appreciate the region and making friends and supporting his Pokémon's development. Sinnoh had 50 episodes that literally did nothing in between 2 badges at one point.

Nah. The reason Pikachu deserved to win the battle with Kukui and Tapu Koko is because he’s failed Ash in more leagues than any other Pokémon. In Kanto and Johto it was Charizard, and in Kalos it was Greninja. But it fell to Pikachu to pull through against Tyson’s Meowth in Hoenn, Cameron’s Lucario in Unova, and Tobias with Latios and four other unknown Pokémon, and he lost each time. So since Ash’s savior Lycanroc went down first against Kukui, it was Pikachu’s job to finish the match, and he was incredible! Definitely one of the best moments in the entire series!
Just finished watching the alola anime for the first time and my goodness the league was amazing! So much character moments, so much continuity. They didn't rush anything and didn't waste our time. This is what you get when you let the league have more episodes. I was smiling the whole time. Seriously, might be my new favourite league. And truly the climax to the alola anime.
Actually, this video made me watch the whole Sun/Moon Anime. I was pretty hyped about Pokémon XY/Z and watched every episode when it came out but when its successor was announced, I was very intriged by the artstyle and the general idea of Pokemon school. But after this video in particular I decided to give it a chance and I did not regret it at any point. The league itself was very decently made. I liked the fact that Ash and especially his Pokémon could face their rivals and overcome them. Except for Ash vs. Ha'u there weren't any Deus Ex moments, like tide turning evolutions etc. Of course, the victory against Ha'u didn't feel deserved, having two "bullshit" moments, but on the other hand Rowlet has always been a gimicky character so it is not that surprising. I liked even more the fact that Ash's Torracat evolved after beating Kukui's Inceneroar, not in the middle. Also, I liked the choice of having "shorter" battles throughout the league up to the finals (partially due to the fact that many protagonists didn't even have enough Pokémon to compete). It might feel incomplete to have a 3v3 in a league's finale but on the other hand I prefer knowing each of the contester's Pokémon instead of throwing in some "noname" Pokémon that would be very forgettable (which can be seen in the exhibition match). Overall, this might be my favorite league of all (I still need to let that sink in before I make a final decision). Of course there was some wasted potential, like having an all out battle between Jessie and James, but in the end this is a league and a season I will happily look back to (and surely watch my favorite moments again and again).
Great way to put it, the Alola League made every battle seem to have some kind of importance and it was amazing to see every single battle play out, even if there were no full-on battles until Ash’s exhibition match with Kukui. The league didn’t feel like it was made only to achieve victory, rather it was to strengthen the bonds of rivals and friends alike, create a fun and new experience for everybody to enjoy, and bring a new tradition into the region, and those points can be confirmed by Kukui’s intentions of making the league.
Same, at first I didn't watched the series because of the art style, but after watching this review I decided to watch the whole s&m series and I didn't regret, I love it! It's my favorite now
The Alola league was a roller coaster. I went from thinking that it was one of the worst leagues to thinking that it was one of the best. No I settled for it being somewhere in the middle but it was a good league. If not anything else, it was different
@@mattiasolsson1523 Kalos was a great season of Pokemon. But the league? The league was rushed and abridged to hell and back. I prefer the Alola League over that. Ash never got to defeat Alain even once which was dumb as opposed to this league where every rivalry got a proper conclusion.
I have so much respect for you about how you approached this league. You didn’t hold it against the fact that the league was 1 vs 1 as almost every person who watched it has, and you dove deeper into the analysis, bringing up good and bad moments, not just being a nitpicker. Alola League is probably my favorite along with the Sinnoh League. Also respect that despite your favorite region being Kalos (I assume), you weren’t giving it undeserved praise because it’s your favorite. Lot of people have argued against me loving the Alola League even in its early stages, claiming Kalos had everything that Alola could never live up to, yeah and look who gets the last laugh. That final battle against Kukui was literally a reward to those who followed the series through, and could only be fully enjoyed and satisfy those who watched Alola from start to finish

You know what guys, speaking as a 25-year-old man who has seen every single episode of Pokémon since the 90s, the Sun and Moon series is so freaking good! Just think of all the amazing places this series has taken us too: we got to see death handled more than once in a mature and sensible way- Including seeing one of the main characters recount the trauma of her mother dying, we saw recurring character is getting married, all of the sun and moon legendary Pokémon were featured- including mythical Pokémon- and more, Ash got actual legendary Pokémon on his team and won the freaking league, and by God can we talk about how team rocket Webb brought back better than ever? (after Black and White messes them up). Zac is so right, Watch this anime from start to finish; it is truly a marvel for anybody who has enjoyed Ash’s journeys at any point!
WHY YOU DIDN'T MENTION GLADION AND ASH LAUGH IN EPISODE 12, that was so heartwarming moment seeing both Ash and Gladion enjoying this match like never before.
Sun and Moon series was awesome and Ash got some of his best achievements there: Ash caught mythical pokemon melmetal and ultrabeast naganadel who are as powerful as legendaries, beat 2 legendary pokemon (silvally and tapu koko), won the pokemon league and defeated Kukui who was the unofficial CHAMPION of alola (the strongest trainer of the region). And there are more things, all Ash's pokemon had their moments to shine and writers didn't RESET ash's pikachu; definitely one of the best pokemon series
Okay, I have to get this out of my back burner before it burns: I dislike the fakeout KO scene in Ash vs. Hau, but for a different reason than the rest. Before I go into that, I want to say why I *don’t* dislike it. - Sleep Does Not equal KO. If you reply Ash vs. Ritchie to me, I will tell you to watch Ash vs. Harrison, Ash vs. Nando, and Ash vs. Tobias and then report back to me. - Ash’s Rowlet was not KOed. Meaning that it still had the strength to fight. Also meaning that Ash wasn’t bestowed the win from Arceus. - It would be one thing if Nanu’s decision was called into question by a random audience member, but it was Hala, another referee, who questioned the call.
Another thing I liked from that battle was the concept of "charge" attacks. Hau said "I guess it wasn't charged enough." Moves that takes time to use "can" be shoot earlier with weaker power in anime. This explains how Ash's Herracross and Alain's Unfezeant used Focus Punch and Sky Attack consecutively. It was used prematurely in this fight, but now from now on, I get look back at this fight and see how "charged" moves will be immpemented in the anime.
The battle between Ash and Hau is actually more logical than many people thinks. 4 reasons: 1. Unlike past similiar experiences, they showed right from the beginning how Decidueye is superior to Rowlet, so they planned a combo of Feather Dance for the defense and Brave Bird, a super-effective move, for the offense. I now "game logic" and "anime logic" are impossible to compare with each other, but it was very realistic to see; 2. Sky Attack didn't charged enough, therefore wasn't able to deal a great damage on the opponent; 3. Hala is the chief of the refrees, so it make sense he has the authority for interrupting the battle; 4. He is also aware of Rowlet's tendency to oversleep, due to his Grand Trial with Ash, and he didn't want his grandson to win like that. And for the scene where Rowlet felt asleep... I actually LIKE it. Yes, that might sound shocking to you, but I believe it was to ironize about one of the anime's most known cliché: Ash loses always against a Trainer who appears out of nowhere, or simply didn't build up a legit relationship with him. There's only one big issue I have with the episode. If you avoid the logic I've already stated, you'll realize this was the first time that Hau actually proved himself to be a worth contender to the Champion Title: he basically countered every single move from Ash, including Brave Bird, while Ash didn't have a real strategy; he was focused only on using Brave Bird, and most important he avoided the last Sky Attack with a very random Feather Dance, with zero explanation about everything. Again, I like how the anime wanted to use only super-effective attacks, but do you expect also some real strategies from Ash, something which draw out his maximum potential and, instead, didn't happen at all; while Hau clearly deserved the victory, Ash's performance was just "meh". So, to put it simply, I'd give to ep.133 a rating of 7/10. It definitely was better than many people thought, but still not great because of some issues with Ash's performance.
@Davide D'Alterio The thing is, that *was* Ash’s strategy. To be honest, I think that that was the best one he could have thought of. A Razor Leaf Collision would not end well for Rowlet, and Seed Bomb would just get deflected by Leaf Blade. Brave Bird was one of Ash’s keys to victory. The other being Feather Dance. I do have a question, though. Would it have been better had Rowlet learned Substitute instead? Kind of like how Froakie learned Double Team by trying to learn Quick Attack. What if Rowlet learned Substitute and improved on it before the battle, but Ash had him use Feather Dance just to throw Hau off guard? Edit: And at the last second, Ash tells Rowlet to use Substitute to dodge the Sky Attack and then sneak up on Decidueye via Brave Bird?
@@sandrahwu Yes, I already said that using Brave Bird was clever, but when you compare Ash's battle strategies to Hau's ones... Honestly, it feels really unfair, because Hau had a counter strategy for everything, and Ash not: even if Rowlet wouldn't have been able to damage Decidueye throught other moves, couldn't Ash atleast use some creativity to counter the opponent as well? Maybe finding a way to contraxt Spirit Shackle? It really seems like Ash didn't even try to use creativity, despite knowing he couldn't damage Decidueye so easily. I'm sorry if I might not being able to explain myself correctly. I've mixed feelings about the writers' choice.
@Davide D'Alterio I see where ur going at. I have an idea as to how Ash could have utilized more strategy. For the first time Rowlet gets caught, have him use Razor Leaf to destroy the arrow and fly away from Decidueye’s Z-Move. That way, Hau will be motivated to severely weaken Rowlet before launching the next Spirit Shackle. But then Ash tells Rowlet to use Substitute at the last minute. How does that sound?
People really don't want to understand the "Jessie VS James" battle. It's the first time James actually realizes that he has to care more about his Pokémon and desires than Jessie's selfishness; I know someone could be upset because it was a pure comedy, but what do you expect? It's Team Rocket after all. Sometimes one minute is enough to tell a story, and this is one of these cases. When it comes out of "Lillie VS Gladion", instead, I'm a bit disappointed. I love how they showed Lillie's progression as a Trainer, but we are talking about siblings, we are talking about two major character in the series: I was expecting so much more when I heard of them. More emotions, more struggles to win by Lillie... It was basically "Usopp VS Luffy" from One Piece: the outcome was obvious, but the weakest one manages to overcome the gap in strenght due to the strategies - luckily, Sophocles and Kiawe did a better job from this point of view. Also, if you think about it this was Lillie's first proper battle against a Trainer with her Snowy, and this really gives you more hype: her first real match ever, and it's against the guy who always tried to protect her only to realize how far she went by herself... Wow. Just wow.

Honestly this League had the best story and battles I’ve ever seen in a league(with the exception of Ash vs Paul)! I really can’t think of a better moment to best your main rival, become the champion, or even battle and defeat your father figure of the series! I was constantly on the stone edge on my seat and I cried a lot!
This is the first case we can truly speak of a Pokémon League as the climax of the entire series. Unlike previous competitions, which were focused only on Ash and his rivals, everyone here can participate because everyone has a story: Team Rocket wants to find a way to satisfy Giovanni by conquering the Alola region; Guzman stands as the primary antagonist; and competitors such as Sophocles, Mallow and Lillie participate for fun. Everyone has a different purpose, but all are brought together under the same event, and through the battles we even see some development/growth characters, or how their emotions are in first place compared to other factors: Sophocles overcomes his insecurities against Kiawe; Mallow rediscovering her bond with Tsareena; James focuses on his desires and Mareanie, rather than always satisfying Jessie's selfishness, and so on. SM has always been a series carried by its characters and the relationships they hold both with each other, and with their Pokémon, and the Alola League is a clear proof: each contestant, by their own Pokémon, reaches an important personal goal; hence the need to reduce matches, because a narrative focused only on the dynamism of the 3v3s and 6v6s would have decidedly out of tune with this intent. I also think this choice by the authors is one more reason to be proud of Ash's victory. I prefer that the triumph took place now that they have finally managed things as a real conclusion to the entire past adventure: Ash experienced countless emotions once he arrived at Alola, learning to love more the region and people themselves than battles, and now he has participated in a competition he loves with all the people he has lived with; he ended up facing many rivals together with his own Pokémon, who has shared the same opponents with him; he faced who was basically his "adoptive father"; and during the last fight he not only finally beaten Tapu Koko, his first opponent in the region, but he shared with his companion Pikachu all the memories and all the sensations lived up to then. Ash's participation is not just about a rivalry, but is connected to everything he and his Pokémon have experienced up until that point, and there was no occasion or better way for him to get his first Champion Title. I wouldn't be surprised if the writers actually planned this amazing story and the League victory right from the beginning. P.S: Perhaps, this is the first time when Ash first takes down two rivals who appeared out of nowhere (Hau and Guzma), and then faces off against two guys who have history with him: normally he faces his main rival, whom he has history with, and then lose against a guy who didn't build up a proper relationship with him - even Alan, despite his deep characterization, at the end of the day wasn't so different under this prospective. And in my opinion, this is a better way to end his journey in a region.
In this league Ash shown how really powerful he is. How many rivalries did this league had? Rowlet vs Decidueye, Torracat vs Incineroar, Lycanroc vs Lycanroc and Pikachu vs Tapu koko
