@@Turtle-Soup don't feel bad i up until very recently also assumed burny got the other typings. I wanna say I was playing legends arceus when I found this out.
I still wish a sand Castform appeared. I know its not a standard weather like rain, hail, sun. But I still think its close enough to weather to exist in a video game.
If they can make Alolan Exeggutor a dragon type for being based on dragon fruit, they can make a sandstorm Castform because it has the word "storm" in it!
@MarshallLeeA Though I've always wanted Sandstorm Castform, going by English translations of things isn't usually useful. What often happens with Pokémon, especially pre gen 7, was they made the game primarily for a Japanese audience, Japanese cultural stories and norms and idioms etc. Later when these are translated to an English, it..... doesn't go so well. A number of Abilities boost things like bomb or wind Abilities, based on Japanese names of moves. Meaning that some moves without that name in English are included, and with that name are excluded. It's why we have female Mr Mime (Japanese didn't say it was male only), its why non-water Hoppip etc learn splash (badly translated from Hop in Japanese). It's also why Wynaut convos aren't as funny (imagine Wobbuffet instead called Beakoz) Why not Because Why not Because etc
Believe it or not, Partner Pikachu and Eevee are actually considered forms in the data (they have separate internal index numbers from the regular species like other permanent forms). The main difference is that they obviously can’t evolve, but they also have higher base stats, different models (both are more detailed, especially Eevee, and they are different sizes), and Eevee even has a different gender ratio (Eevee’s gender difference was also exclusive to Partner Eevee before Gen VIII gave it to every Eevee). Not even considering all the unique partner stuff they can do. To be fair, though, it’s more of a trivia bit than an actual Pokemon form, especially since these forms will never leave their games and you have to dig into code to even find this out.
I don't know if anyone has added this footnote, but Wishiwashi's ability does not activate if it lower than level 20. That's why the Totem Wishiwashi in SM is level 20!
Pardon me if I missed it in the video, but Xerneas has two forms. Active Form is used while in battle and switches to Neutral Form when not in battle. All Active Form does is change it's silver details to gold (horns, knee armor things), as well as light up the RGBs.
You’re right, I totally missed xerneas. It’s just one of those weirdly niche things you tend to forget when you focus more on the collecting than the battling part of the series.
I feel like Neutral form only exists to make it look less interesting in Pokemon Amie/Refresh. Also why does it even count as a different form? The Urshifus have a different stance outside of battle that makes them look identical, the Typhlosion line's flames only pop out in battle, Honedge and Doublade unsheath in battle, and the Wigglett line.... become aroused... in battle. Why arent those separate forms? What about Activated Zekrom, Reshiram, or B/W Kyurem? Or Zenith Marshadow? Or Radiant Sunne/Full Moone Solgaleo and Lunala? Or Behemoth Blade/Bash Zacian/Zamazeta? Why don't those count as official alt forms but the RGB Deer in Power Save mode is considered to be its own form?
@@dimetrodon2250 Urshifu, Solgaleo, Lunala, Marshadow, Zamazenta and Zacian are animations, they aren't considered different forms in the game's code. The same with Reshiram and Zekrom. Fused Kyurem I think is a different form...? But Xerneas IS a different form. It follows the same logic as other battle-only aesthetic changes not dependant on the animation.
Cherrim's stats changing with it's forms is ONLY in Legends arceus, in all other games it is in, it is purely an aesthetic representation of it's ability activating, which raise Attack and Special **Defense** (you said Special Attack in the video) of both Cherrim and its ally if in a double battle via an invisible buff.
Cherrim seems so strange. It’s almost like it was designed specifically as a Groupon partner in a single restricted format (helps cover the water weakness, patches up its lower bulk stat, super charges it’s already sky high attack while having good support moves), about a decade and a half before that was ever a thing. Groudon was the only drought setter in gen 4, and almost all of the other mons that want sun up are SPECIAL attackers, genuinely what were they cooking with that thing?
Some notes: Furfrou actually can keep its special trim while boxed and maintain it indefinitely in one way. Any Furfrou caught in Pokemon Go that has its trim changed in Pokemon Go and is then sent to Pokemon Home will maintain whatever trim it was transferred in! No clue if it still expires over time while not boxed though, but while in Home it will maintain that form. While not usable by the player, there is also Eternal Flower Floette. If Arceus and Silvally count as form changes, then Genesect's different drives may count as well. Otherwise, it's as others said. Spinda, Xerneas, Spiky-Eared Pichu, etc. Honorable mentions go to shinies, regional forms, regional "technically different Pokemon", and Paradox Pokemon, which are all things that probably count but are definitely not what this video is meant to be about.
Yeah, really hoping legends z-a allows us to get our own furfrou forms so I can swap the ones I have out with ones with my own OT And you’re absolutely right with genesect, totally should’ve added it!
You missed Genesect! The drive that it's holding is shown on its sprite/model and changes the type of techno blast, so they do count as different forms. Specifically, it has its burn, shock, douse, and chill drive forms, alongside its normal form.
Funny thing is in the video when you said comment your favorite forms down below I remembered Genesect drive forms exist and yet didn’t notice you miss them lol
Zygarde is a weird case because it technically has 7 forms, if you count the Core and Cells, (8 if you count the anime second core). Since 10% and 50% have to use the Zygarde Cube to change abilities internally Zygarde has 5 usable forms, 10% Aura Break, 10% Power Construct, 50% Aura Break, 50% Power Construct and Complete.
@@kevinaguirre3666 i don't think so, in the data they have just one form: their evolution is based on their personality value (Wurmple, Dunsparce, Tandemaus), or on the nature, in Toxel's case. For this reason they don't need separate forms. Good question though, it's like they got their evolution already decided in their DNA, too.
Fun fact, if I remember correctly, due to Gen 2's programming, the form of unown actually does affect the shiny rates of each letter. Sometimes it makes it much easier, and other times it can actually make itmuch harder
Nice video overview! I appreciate that you mentioned some internal formes that the player might not immediately recognize as such. It's a nice touch! Oh and has anyone mentioned Cosplay Pikachu from ORAS yet?
Everyone’s listing off different mons that were forgotten and I’m just wondering if Combee should count since only the female one can evolve into Vespiquen? Overall, great job! I know there was a LOT to cover here and some things were either missed or not 100% accurate. But hey, I think it means you have the opportunity at a later date to remake this vid with all the corrections! My advice would be to try and go in dex order ‘cause even thinking about it right now, there’s also Eternatus and potentially Kecleon if you consider the purple version as a different form. But anyways, great job and keep it up!
I should’ve added a footnote for spinda, probably alongside the gender variations. Completely forgot about it as my main basis for the forms is from constructing my living dex, and spinda is exempt from that due to the sheer impossibility.
Unfortunately, that’s just one of those things I happen to overlook when in the scripting process and then don’t catch in the editing. You’re right though, I absolutely should’ve named the abilities.
Sun and moon also has some goofy ahh cosmetic battle only forms akin to xerneas in the forms of solgaleo's radiant sun and lunala's full moon forms which happens during their signature attacks as well as marshadow's zenith form when I believe it attacks at all.
You missed: Partner Pikachu/Eevee, Cosplay Pikachu, the Cap Pikachus, Spiky Eared Pichu, Dada Zarude, Neutral mode Xerneas, the elemental Drives for Genesect, Ogerpon's unique Terastal forms (not listed in Pokemon HOME for some reason unlike Terapagos), the thousands of possible Spinda forms, and the Totem Pokemon you get as rewards for the sticker hunt in USUM. If you wanted to include Pokemon the player can battle but not obtain, there are: the special Ghost Marrowack from RBY/FRLG/LGPLGE, the Smeargle with a bow tie in Pokestar Studios, the Totem Hakkamo-o from the Sun and Moon demo (its not even a sticker reward), Eternamax Eternatus (I guess you covered it under the footnote for Megas/Primals/G-Max), the shadowy Giratina in BDSP, and the Starmobiles. There is also the Eternal Flower Floette who's sprite was spotted in a datamine in Pokemon HOME a while back. If you want to include non-Pokemon that you can battle, there are the Ghost Illusions from before you get the Silph Scope in the Kanto games, and the Pokestar Studios Green-Screen props that become the Special Effects. There's also Shadow Lugia and the non-transferrable costume/event Pokemon in Pokemon Go.
@@Turtle-Soup ohh okay. yeah “baile” is the spanish word for dance and baile style oricorio is based on flamanco style dancing. it’s pronounced “bye-leh”
I believe Ogerpon's Terrastalised formes count separately, rather than as just tera'd versions of her regular formes, due to her getting a new ability in this state (Embody Aspect - apparently each forme has a unique ability with the same name)
Xerneas has a literal in battle and out of battle form. Out of battle its horns points are all blue, and in battle each horny point is a different color.
My favorite of the permanent forms is probably the Tauros breeds, not because they’re awesome (though they are), but because their introduction brings a lot of potential for future regional variants. I figured regional evolutions would be the extent of their iterations of the concept, but I’m definitely glad to be proven wrong; convergent species are also a nice little sister concept that I quite enjoy as well. In regards to anything missed, Ogerpon has different forms when terastalized. The masks grow bigger and gain an energy-like plumage. Its ability also changes to Embody Aspect, which grants it a different stat boost depending on the specific mask: Grass/Speed, Fire/Attack, Water/Sp.Def, Rock/Defense.
Yeah I love paldean tauros! Think it’s a great evolution of the regional concept! Also, completely forgot about the terastalized forms for ogerpon, which is a little embarrassing after remembering the forms of terapagos
am i the only one who questioned why miltank and Tauros used to be always grouped in the alola dex as the same species but miltank is nowhere to be seen in gen 9? @@Turtle-Soup
If you wan't to be thecnicall all pokemon have permanent different forms: Their shiny forms. Also if the origin forms of the matter trio are moentioned, both Primal Kyogre and Groudon should be mentioned. And Spinda. Spinda it's a beast of its own
If you wanted to be technical, I guess you could say the shinies count. For the primal reversions, I mention it in the footnote alongside the megas as I personally view them as glorified megas, more or less. Thinking they should’ve been mentioned proper is totally valid though. And for spinda, it is indeed a beast of its own, and a total nightmare for collectors like me.
Oricorio would've been better as a permanent Form, they lack literally any coverage moves of their form's type besides Revelation Dance so having set forms and different learnsets would've been much better in the long run.
I agree, I find them being able to change form really weird. The possibilities, like you brought up, if they were hard separated would really help them stand out more!
This is very niche, so i don't blame you at all for not includung it, but pichu has a unique form in pokemon heartgold / soul silver, that being the spikey eared pichu. It cannont evolve and from what i know is just aesthetic. It's most recent appearance was a costume alt in super smash bros ultimate. (That may be it's only other appearance 😆) Also kind of off topic, coming from your last video i can tell you've been working on, and audibly improved at talking a bit slower like so many (me included) commented, on the pokeball video. So just wanted you to know, we can tell and you're getting better 👍.
This might be outside the scope of the video, but shadow Lugia and Primal Dialga are two alternate forms that appear in spin-offs. There might be more, but those are the two I can think of off the top of my head.
I thought about primal dialga, but decided against it due to factors such as being spin off only I’ll most likely be talking about shadow lugia in another video sooner than later
Good video. Very comprehensive, good work. You pronounce some pokemon names wrong tho. Most are fine and can be just differences in dialect, but Oricorio was notably significantly off. You pronounced it "Or-e-co-rio", the ending being the part that's most off. It's actually pronounced "Or-e-core-io" Unrelated, god i hate Calirex. Such a lazy design. Why does it just mount other pokemon why is that considered one pokemon. And its base design is dumb to boot.
Thank you! For the pronunciations, I haven’t really partaken in parts of the franchise that has actual voice acting since the Gen 5 era, so they ultimately end up being just how I’ve interpreted it from reading or have picked up from others.
@@croma3375 I'll repeat my statement. Ogerpon is one of several legendaries that actually has an in-game assigned gender, joining the likes of Latias (female), Latios (male), Heatran (50/50), Cresselia (female), and possibly some others that I'm missing. The original comment, before being edited, was about liking that people refer to Ogerpon with female pronouns because the original commenter didn't realize that Ogerpon was one of the legendaries with a gender.
