Just now finding this video 2 yrs later and hearing you speak about the games prices being ridiculous at the $250 mark and now they are $500-1k a piece minimum

I just love the fact that boxes can be more expensive than the game itself.

I’m still so bummed I had to sell all my Pokémon games when I lost my job a few years back, I didn’t get nearly enough for them and now they’re just too ridiculous to try to buy.

As for the protective boxes, when you're placing your collection into them wait for the day to become less humid. Avoid storing and opening them during humid days

Hi Lithium!!! I’m glad I collected all of my Pokémon games before they went up. I remember paying $45 for emerald CIB and $50 for crystal CIB. My favorite game was Pokémon Ruby because I remember my mom saving enough to get me a gameboy and Pokémon ruby!

The prices are fucking absurd sometimes, my black 2 died on me yesterday so I was looking online for a new copy. the audacity of some of these people calling these games "rare", like come on man they sold millions. I hate gamestop but it's really the best places to get the DS pokemon games.

Just a heads up, Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow did in fact have cardboard trays in some print runs. One of the difficult things about these games is that between prints, some aspects changed. Coloration, inserts, tray or no tray, etc. For yellow I know the ESRB rating was totally missing on its first print run! then later had the pixelated "E", then finally the solid "E" that we see today. Crazy to be a pokemon collector when you gotta know all this stuff. haha Great video and thanks for covering these games! I can't believe the prices, honesty. Glad I got mine pre-2020. :D

Here's some random info for gen 1 and 2 that I found out. The red, blue, and yellow versions with the double flap boxes will have a built in cart holder. The manuals for the double flap releases will also have a "U/" prefix or "-2" appended to the text in the top right corner. The boxes with the Y cardboard fold at the bottom (I think that's what they call it) are the earlier releases but there's at least 2 variants for each r/b/y/crystal box (double flap and y fold). There can be a white or black E rating for r/b/y and also a no E rating variant for yellow. Hope this helps and keep up the great work!

I got Pokemon Blue CIB two years ago for $40. Silly me, I decided to get all the games CIB since then. I'm down to just missing Yellow now and it's gonna cost an arm and a leg to get that to finish my main series set...

Hey Lithium, I actually just started my very first Pokémon game last week! I was able to snag that $100 2ds XL deal at Walmart quite recently. GameStop also happened to be doing a buy 3 get 2 free deal on used games so I was able to get my 2ds with Mario Kart 7 pre-installed and 5 games to go along with it for just $165 in total! One of the games I decided to pick up was Pokémon Moon and I really enjoy it so far. I chose Litten as my starter and I can wait to evolve him to Incineroar! Thanks for all the great videos over the years, been watching since 2015. Can’t wait for the face reveal!

Awesome Video! One thing I want to add though, in North American Ruby/Sapphire Copies they each came with an exclusive e-reader card as part of the inserts. For Pokemon Ruby it was the “Gentleman Nils” card, for Sapphire it was the “Lady Astrid” card. Just wanted to share this so anyone trying to get a truly complete copy knows to look for these either when buying a boxed copy or separately! Happy hunting everyone!

Thank you SO much for uploading this video, I'm thrilled! On my birthday in 2015, my uncle gifted me his copies of Pokemon Black, White, SoulSilver, and HeartGold. All have boxes, most or every piece of paperwork included, and HeartGold is the special box-package with a functional Pokewalker. I had NO CLUE my collection was worth hundreds (I have other games too)! I was pretty young back then, but nothing's heavily damaged. This is awesome, thanks again.

im really mad to see this video, because when i was younger i gave ALL my pokemon games to gamestop all my heartgold copies and soulsilvers all my diamond and pearls and my black and white. really upset with myself. wish i never gave them away 😭😭😭😭😭

So great to finally see the Pokemon series covered. You have a good looking set there for sure. I am missing a few inserts from my gen 1 games due to being a bit careless when I was younger, but the big three are still in great shape. Your copies of Ruby and Sapphire should have come with an eReader card each. Lady Astrid for Sapphire, Gentlemen Nils for Ruby. Platinum comes with the Rotom insert as stated in the comments already. Everything else seemed complete as far as regular retail goes. But you are correct with there being variations to all of the games. Currently, the Japanese versions are also increasing in price. The Japanese versions of RBYG come with a physical "Pocket Monsters Town Map" which is a neat addition. The JP Black and White games also come with a cardboard slip cover over the regular DS cases. So far, the most expensive Pokemon game, I think, is the big boxed version of Pokemon Box Ruby and Sapphire. $2000 CAN even opened. Was a great $50 investment at the time. Can't wait for the silver play button video. Keep up the great work!

I'm glad you mentioned the fakes. There are SOOOOO many counterfeit Pokemon games out there. I've heard that the Pokemon games are the ones most commonly faked. Be VERY careful and pay close attention to what you're buying.

The thing you’re missing for the fire red era games is the pack in wireless link cables that you’d stick into your gba with the little prongs

You forgot about the Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSliver that came in a big box, instead of the Pokewalker, each one came with a figure. If memory serves...it was a Walmart exclusive.

Pokemon FireRed's Players Choice version came out in 2006, hence the GBA SP ags 101 and DS Lite inserts.

I never got the Hoenn remakes back in the day, so a couple of weeks ago I scored AlphaSaphire CIB in great shape for around $17 US here in México! Collecting for the 3DS is getting slept on imo.

My favorite generation has to be gen 4. I’ve played Pokémon diamond sooo much as kid and absolutely loved it. Favorite Pokémon is probably also Blastoise. Pure because he looks so cool.

What I’ve found is that it’s cheaper to actually but the original box and game cart separately, and I’d highly suggest it as long as you can differentiate between fake and real cartridges. Also, my favourite Pokemon games are B2W2 and my favourite Pokemon is Umbreon.

Amazing! A video on the topic I've been thinking about all week! I'm a huge Pokemon collector so I'm really glad to see a video made about this. I can tell you put a lot of thought into the video, and I'm excited to -now- binge-watch all your popular vids. I think my only gripe with the video is that I really wish you didn't just pull the price chart auction prices for everything. If you go by the 'Buy It Now' prices, I think everything varies a little. It's also really hard to compare the complete in box prices since the condition can vary so much. A nice copy of any of the GB-GBA games can easily go for $50-$100 more than what you said in the video. Giving a spreadsheet with all the price ranges along with the process you went through to make it would've made this video a serious K.O - but I'm also being very picky. Also, it seems like you wanted corrections for what comes in the CIB games. In CIB copies of Ruby and Sapphire, they come with special E-Reader cards for 'Gentleman Nils' and 'Lady Astrid' respectively. Since there are three versions of Pokemon Firered and Leafgreen - they all contain different inserts. Both my copies come with the wireless adapter and they have an instruction booklet dedicated to it, an ad to Nintendo Power, and another ad for the Gameboy Player. Crystal and Emerald come with different inserts compared to their counterparts. Notably Emerald comes with a cool poster.

Amazing video! I wanted to complete my collection in order to do a similar video to this, but i guess there's no point now cause you did it already! RS: come with ereader card inside a clear blister. PD: you got the Battle Revolution poster missing! Platinum: instead of the BR poster you got a rotom form insert, there was 5 versions each one with a different rotom form. It was sorted randomly. BW: late versions come with a Dream World insert. B2W2: Genesect event insert XY: Late version vary from the early versions: no torchic insert, and manual is slightly bigger. SS: Double pack has obviously an insert with downloadable codes! Cheers from Argentina! If you think that your prices are ridiculous you should take a look at the prices here, B2W2 is 200 usd lol

I would‘ve liked to have seen The other Pokémon games too: ranger, mystery dungeon, colosseum, gale of darkness, rumble, conquest, ect. Mystery dungeon games were a big favourite of mine in particular.

My brother was into Pokemon games when they first came out for the Game Boy. He had the first three games you showed. I am not surprised that prices for these games have sky rocketed for these titles. Luckily I've bought all the retro video games i wanted. Great video Lithium.

I stopped playing Pokemon games ever since silver came out and forgot about series all together for years. This year I saw a video of a Nuzlock (might be wrong here) challenge and it made me want to play a Pokemon game like I remember from Gen one. I still have my Yellow, Red and Silver cartrige. Silver was my first game o bought from my own holiday money 😅 my all time favorite game by far! But these prices are outrageous. I was thinking on buying pokemon platinums since i never played that gen but I’m not gonna pay 90 bucks for it.

Sun and Moon also had a dual pack that was just both games in their normal cases packaged into a carboard box very similar to that steel book bundle

This is the video that pushed me to start collecting Pokemon games back in late 2020. I followed my hunch and my wife was confused at first, why I was buying these games like there’s no tomorrow. It was one of the best decisions I ever made because at the start of 2021, the prices doubled, then tripled like crazy. After 2 years of game hunting and collecting (Boxed games in both English and Japanese versions), I finally got all mainline games and spinoffs. All of them have also been quadruple-checked for authenticity. So I can’t thank you enough. That was my last chance to get every Pokemon game that I wanted before the price hike madness started. I watch this video every now and then for nostalgia, and it is a very humbling feeling. 😊

About 6-7 years ago I randomly started buying/searching for pokemon games just for my own sake of completing the collection and I got like sealed fire red and ruby games for like 50$ at the time. Crazy to see they are potentially worth thousands now I’m happy I did all that when I did 😅

I'm starting to slowly build up my collection again and trying to get cartridge games at a fair price if possible. Eventually moving to boxed games. I will note one thing with Yellow because I remember personally buying it. My original original copy (I don't have it, gave to friend, but just got a copy) actually game with a Pokemon Yellow guide and the game wrapped together with the cartridge loose. I didn't have the boxed version and mine did come from a mom and pop game store that is no longer around. This was during the time of Yellow's release. I know for a fact that Pokemon did this with a few other releases that I vaguely seen similar packages for, so this would be a rare case of a completed game. It doesn't come with the manual or other insides, just the guide and cart. I think if you managed to find one of these few examples it might be worth a bit since its one of the few oddities.

Wtf. I got Crystal the year it came out and still have it complete. Also I got my legit Emerald cart from the US 3 years ago for maybe 37 bucks. Hahaha glad I didn't wait. Even some Japanese copies are getting expensive especially Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

I think you are missing the Pokémon battle revolution insert on the gen 4 games but that may vary since i bought the Big box version of Pokémon soulsilver as a child and i don't remember it having the Pokémon rumble insert, i might check that up since i still have it
