Can we talk about how B/W was like "Here, have three animated trainer sprites, but we animated the pokemon for ya!" and then BW2 was like *"Screw that, EVERYONE GETS AN ANIMATION. We'll even re-animate the old games too."* not to mention they're all incredibly smooth and gorgeous to look at-

Watching this makes you realize how Gen 5 truly was Game Freak’s final love letter to true Pokémon fans. They put so much passion into those games

Bianca at 5:06 is made so darn well that you almost forget that it's only three sprites being used for that. The movement of the sprites to show the struggle and throw off balance is amazing.

Black and White 2 did "Everyone is here" before it was cool.

Man...Black 2 and white 2 were peak sprite animation, so buttery smooth.

I loved the sprite animations but what really stuck out to me most in these gens was the callouts mid battle. It gave the fights more flavor.

N's sprite is different between BW and BW2; at the end of BW2's he has a smile instead of the passive expression.

The BW2 sprite animations are absolutely fucking insane. I cannot believe they seriously animated every single trainer sprite in the entire game. Completely psychotic.

BW2 truly were a pinnacle of Pokemon. Not only you can feel the soul in the artstyle, but also in the music. I mean the fact that extra drums play as you walk just makes the BGM so much better. It's only a shame we were to blind to appreciate its genius before it was way too late.

One thing I love about Cyrus's sprite. When the battle starts he's got his head up and he's doing a smug grin as if to say "you really challenging me" then as soon as the pokeballs appear and the theme kicks in it goes on to this oh its on vibe.

Black and White 2’s animation have so much emotion! I love how N, Cheren and Bianca’s animation are basically Black and White’s animation but improved upon.

Ohhh they even got the angry breathing right for Ghetsis. A+ for that alone.

Animated sprites were one of the best parts about the games, giving life to important characters. Maybe having it for every trainer was a little overkill, but considering in BW2 they had all the gym leaders champions etc from gen 1-4 it's understandable. Honestly sprites were better than 3d and there was so much more character to their animations when they had them. Just with BW had the sprites as well as BW2.

I’d sacrifice gods if it meant at least having an in-game option to switch between 2D and 3D sprites.

In my opinion gen 4 and 5 are the best gens in pokemon right now

Pokemon BW2 feel so good. The pokeball sounds combined with that buttersmooth, peak 2D animation and Gen 5's god OST. That feeling has never been replicated since.

We can all agree that pokemon B 2/W 2 oozes with personality especially the trainers having their own intro animation and pokemon having their own intro animation and the way they move is smooth as butter Pokemon B 2/W 2 is on number 3 of 10 favourite pokemon games

Man, if only the Hilbert and Hilda fights were real... They’re like legends you’ll never get to meet in the second games, and it would make going all the way back to the first town from the first game feel more special. Plus, it’s a nice callback to Gold and Silver, and they could have Reshiram/Zekrom from the first game in their party

Pokemon BW2 went big with its dimensions 2d movement of characters and pokemons, the music and put the past leaders and champions: ') It hurts that the 3d does not do any of that

No one has a better dance then Barry. No one can do better than Barry, because unlike everyone he knows how to do the Barry and prior to that say I’m going to fine you .

It’s incredible how great the 2D sprites look with these small details. They put in so much character even without 3D animation.
