I can't believe how shocked I was when I first heard the news. I let out a bit of tears, and I couldn't sleep for 2 days straight. What this man had did for the Video game industry is and always will be important. He should be appreciated as much as Hiroshi Yamauchi, who died 2 years ago. R.I.P Satoru Iwata, you will be missed by all of us nintendo fans. #Thankyouiwata

I remember back in the fifth grade, when Diamond first came out I would stand on the edge of the cliff next to the Pokemon League night after night and just stare off at the waves far below. By far one of my most nostalgic Gen 4 moments.

I used to play Pokémon with my caretaker lots back when I was in elementary and middle school. Her and I used to compete on who could beat the league the fastest and 1v1 each other’s team a lot. She used to drive me around at night when I needed a breather which I needed tons of back when I didn’t have any other escapism. Whenever we would play, it would always be outside the league. I would hear this song tons when we used to play. One thing led to another, unfortunately she’s not with me anymore. Sometimes I would boot up my Diamond cartridge and just load into the Pokémon league’s waterfall. You don’t know how good you have things until you don’t. Rest her soul for looking after me for such a long time. I’m about to graduate high school. I bet she would’ve been proud to see that. A timeless tune for timeless memories. Rest in peace, Hannah.

Everyone is talking about Iwata, so here I go. Iwata was responsible for some awesome games. Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal had Kanto in them because he worked hard compressing the games for an entire week. When the 3ds was released and wasn't very popular, he took a 50% pay cut so he could pay companies to stay with Nintendo. He worked on Pokemon Go. He worked on Kirby. He worked on Mario. His last game is his final push to save Nintendo. The 3ds and Wii U were MUCH less successful, and even after his pay cuts, the company still struggled. So he tried bringing Nintendo to the Mobile industry because of it's major growth and sales. Pokemon Go will be his last game. During the last Nintendo direct, Satoru Iwata was seriously ill from the infection in his Bile Duct (or what ever it is called). He didn't want children or fans to watch as he suffered, so instead he created the idea of it being all muppets. This man was a genious. He was my favorite game producer's savior. He was an inspiration. And above all else, a gamer with all of his fans. And enough with the "Iwata was..." or "I miss Iwata, I want him back." He IS here. He is making a new game. He has made many others. He IS one of the best CEOs in the world. He IS here, in our memories, games, fanbases, and our hearts. Iwata wants to be in this generation to see the technology that will revolutionize the gaming industry. He can, no he WILL do it through our eyes. He WILL see Pokemon Go be released. He WILL still help Nintendo. And he still is my hero. ... plus, who's gonna forget that Smash commercial where Iwata totally ROCKED Reggie?

I used to play Pokémon Platinum when I was younger. It would help take my mind off of things. My mom didn't really pay any attention to me when I was about 4. And my dad died when I was two, so I played this game while my sister was at school. I don't remember much, but I do remember that the music comforted me when I was feeling lonely. The Pokémon in the game also felt so real to me. They were mine. My friends. I felt like I belonged whenever I was playing Pokémon. I'm 16 now and I couldn't be happier with who I've turned out to be.

I remember the first time I beat the League in Pokemon Diamond, I was 9 years old, staying in a hotel with my family in Ireland, about to catch a flight for a vacation to Florida the next morning. My sister was sleeping beside me, and my parents were sleeping in the next room. Once the credits rolled I was so ecstatic, although it was like 2AM I ran out of bed and woke up my mom to tell her my accomplishment, she obviously didn't care and just went back to sleep. I crawled back in bed beside my sleeping sister and flew back to the Pokemon League and just stayed up for a while longer, listening to this song and reflecting on my journey. I'm 20 now, Pokemon doesn't have the same impact on me as it did when I was young, but the feeling of beating the League for the first time has never really left me, I can put on this song and I am immediately reminded of being 8/9 years old, playing Pokemon all day and night. I still have my copy of Diamond with the same save file at my mom's house, with my level 100 Empoleon and my very first shiny (a Mareep that is now an Ampharos). It's bittersweet hearing this song today, nostalgia is a beautiful thing but it sure makes the present seem bleak. I'm glad to read these comments and hear the stories of other people who had similar experiences as me; I've never someone irl who has the same attachment to Pokemon as me.

This song is so tearfully bittersweet to me. It makes me reflect on the times I spent with my two rabbits. They were my world at the time and always brought joy in times where life was a constant down. Illness struck both in different times and rapidly ended up losing both. All I can do is think “I’m sorry”, knowing I could have been better. I would do anything to have them back. Life is fragile and precious, please don’t take your’s or other’s for granted.

I suppose they were kind of hoping for a full 3-d game. The game does have stuff in 3-d, but that really isn't full three dimensional, more like kind of 2.5-D or something like that. It wasn't the three dimensional of games like Pokemon Colosseum on Nintendo Gamecube, though some of the three dimensional scenes were fantastic. Imagine Pokemon in the 3DS with full 3D graphics. That would really be something. I still loved the game and the music though.

I remember the day Iwata passed. It was a super melancholy day for the gaming community all around, not just Nintendo fans. Xbox and Playstation players/developers understood the impact Iwata had to gaming as a whole. Etika had a video or a stream (can't remember the specifics) giving his thoughts on everything. He made a comment on this video, "RIP Iwata". Now, in July of 2020, Iwata has long since passed. That channel Etika originally commented on has been deleted. Etika too is no longer with us. I come back and see this comment section - people reminiscing on fond childhood memories. Memories of Diamond/Pearl, memories of games that Iwata played a part in designing, memories of Etika. Rip Iwata and Rip Etika. Your legacy lives on.

Some amazing stories on this comment section...but I got something better than just nostalgia... Pokemon changed my life around. And it was this very song got me back on track. I started playing Pokemon before I even entered preschool, age 3 in 1998. We had a collage student whom we rented out our house to who had all sorts of video gaming stuff; a Nintendo 64 with several games, a Gameboy Color with a few games too, and, of course, within those games were Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. When he left, he gave me all his stuff. For free. No strings attached. I started playing those games, had no idea what I was doing, but it was fun. I grew to love Pokemon, and it brought a lot of joy to my life all throughout preschool and elementary school. But when I got to middle school...life changed for the worse... I became depressed. And not the "I'm feeling blue" kind of depression--I'm talking about the full-on clinical depression (Major Depressive Disorder), and, specifically, the kind that makes you feel empty inside. The kind where even the things that brought you joy before...just don't do it anymore. The kind where you don't know there's something wrong with you, and yet everyone else around you seems completely alien--like they have something you don't. In those days I couldn't cry. In those days I couldn't sleep. Hell, I could hardly smile. If there's ever such a thing as an existence worse than death, this would be it: unfeeling, unmotivated, unsatisfied--all at the same time, every minute, every day. I couldn't tell you that I wasn't ok, but I had an inkling that I wasn't; it's just something you can't put into words or communicate when you don't know there's something wrong with you. To me, that was normal, and I just accepted it. I still laughed, smiled, etc, but it was all fake. I figured that if I just do what other people do, then eventually I'll become like them. So I acted like I was ok, even though I wasn't. I mimicked people, and got really good at it. Eventually, I was the only person who knew something was wrong. But I kept playing Pokemon, in hopes that my old joy would one day be restored. I got really good at the game, and played it religiously in those days. But I still felt nothing. Nothing changed all throughout middle school, at least, not until the end of it. By this point my parents figured me out (what with the grades that start off well and then slowly deteriorate until they're in a hell-bound downward spiral) and brought me into a psychiatrist. The first guy sucked. Gave me medication for ADHD and that medication caused my face muscles to freeze. Now I couldn't even hide my misery through that flawless facade I'd built up; I looked just as miserable as I was. I remember looking in the mirror one day and forcing myself to smile, my cheeks twitching from the invisible weights that held them down. And when I finally managed one, it just looked SO wrong and unnatural. I let my cheeks go and my face returned to it's unmoving state, just like my emotional state. It's one of the most painful memories I have...and hope to ever have. High school rolled around and I was still playing the mirror game (and Pokemon, for that matter), but after the previous fiasco my parents got another guy to see me. He was interesting, but he basically just said I was stubborn, and all of my educational troubles were my own fault. Again, not much changed for a while. It wasn't until 2010, at the age of 16, my Sophomore year, that I got my current psychiatrist who said that I might have depression and prescribed me medication to combat it. It was that winter when I was sitting outside of her door in the lounge area, waiting for my turn to go in, while playing Pokemon Platinum that I reached the Pokemon League, right before Victory Road. And I heard this song, and stopped to listen to it. There comes a point in one's depression where it kind of breaks, like a fever. And, for most, there's something that you encounter, however silly or mundane, meaningful or awesome, that causes it to break, and leads you back into the realm of feeling emotion...feeling whole again. For me, it was this song. The beginning of the song starts with those notes in dissonance with the echoing tones that tie them together. And I realize that those chords were exactly how I felt: conflicted. They sound at odds with one another, like they don't fit together... But...at the same time...they sound pretty when put together with the other notes. And as I listened I heard them progress in a way I wasn't expecting. At first it seemed sad, but then the second stanza came into play, and it became more upbeat, yet in a mild way. And it transitioned to the next part with another hint of sadness, only to be picked up again into a happier tune. Once I had finished listening to it all the way through, and heard it repeating, I couldn't believe my ears: how could something so mellow seem so happy? And how could something so happy use tones that seem so sad at the same time? I came to the realization that this is neither a sad song, nor a happy song. It's just pretty; it is what it is, but it's not easy to say what it is--and most importantly, it doesn't try to be something it isn't. It's unique and beautiful in a convoluted and mystifying way. And as the song progressed into the second stanza again...I began to cry. First with small droplets, and then with big streams running down my face. For the first time in 4 years, I started to feel emotion. I was both happy and sad at the same time--just like this song. And it just kept repeating, and I simply sat there and wept for 20 minutes straight. I was finally free. Free from the monotony that had followed me for years of my life--free from the experience of isolation and ineptitude that drove me near insanity--and free from the loss of emotion that I so desperately craved. And all it took...was a song from a Pokemon game. It's been a long time since I heard this song...but I'm here to give it another listen, since I feel like confirming and basking in the fact I can feel things again. Today, my Major Depression is over, but I struggle with Bipolar Disorder in it's stead. It's a tough thing to fight, and sometimes I feel blue, but it's nowhere near the hell I been through. But it's moments like the one I just described that make life truly worth living. Take that as a lesson, if you will; it gets better, it truly does. You just have to find that thing that will put you over the edge when you hit rock bottom. While I might not play the games nearly as much as I used to, I'll always remember what this series has done for me, and will keep this song close to my heart. Thanks, Pokemon. I'll be the master of my own life someday... Someday...with a bit of courage, a lot of love, and the patience to grow and to fight the good fight, together with all of my friends. ...Isn't that what being a Pokemon Trainer is all about?

In a way this feels like the end of the beginning. Our adventures have put us against demigods of the elements, Beasts of legend, the guardians of the earth, sea and sky. We just stopped the destruction of our world, and faced the gods who aided in it’s creation. Now at the end of it all we ascend again, to the pokemon league, just as we have done time and time again. And we’ll keep doing that. Wherever there is adventure to be found in the pokemon world, we’ll be there to get lost in it all over again. Thanks for the memories Iwata.

Now that I'm 18 and headed to college I think I understand this world. It's a cruel cold place. But with certain things it can become bearable. With people that genuinely love you no matter what and understand u and your passion nothing can be better. Thank you iwata. Before having this love your love through all your work and mind and heart I was able to understand things at least a little bit better. Your games made me who I am today. The stories, lessons, love, and friendship your creations show help me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Rest in peace, Etika. We're all thinking about you, bro. You have made an enormous impact in the gamer community. You were always known for your famous reactions. You were the man who made me get hyped for new games to come just because of your reaction. It didn't even matter if I knew the game all that well it was just you. Rest easy, man. We all miss you more than you know.

Pokémon Pearl was the first Pokémon game I ever played, and Platinum was the game I put over 2000 hours of my life into. Iwata made my childhood special through some very dark times, and that Is something I will never forget. Hearing this song play after 9 years, and after hearing of Mr. Iwata's Demise, It only makes me cry. Thanks Iwata for making my childhood so much better than it should have been.

This song is so beautiful. I remember back a long time ago, it was June 6th 2009, I was only five years old, turning 6 on June 29th. It was my first Pokemon game, and it was hard to play, and I didn't understand half the words they said. The only thing I understood is that I was on a journey to catch, tame, and train animals. I chose Piplup. It was all worth it. Taking forever to beat Gardenia because I didn't know about type match ups. When I was about eight in summer, I beat the Pokemon League after many attempts. All worth it. I still have the game now, with my beloved Pokemon, including my Empoleon. I imagine what it is like for one of my friends at school, he started playing Ruby and Sapphire at the age of 3, and now he's 11. I'm 11 too now, and whenever I here this song, it makes me cry. If Game Freak ever remakes this game, I will be so happy. I have a feeling that I won't be buying the Pokemon games when I'm twenty or thirty years old, but I'll be making them in the studio with Game Freak someday. Thank you Nintendo and Game Freak for making such fabulous games, thank you mom and dad for buying the game, thank you my friends for getting me into Pokemon by bringing your Pokemon cards to school , you brought so much to me, I will never forget you, even when I am dead.

You don't know true feels unless your first Pokemon journey whisked you away into the Kanto region. The game that started it all. Oh what a journey it was. That first journey with Charmander was the greatest experience ever. It just was... Amazing. Anyone who grew up with Red and Blue can agree with me. Diamond and Pearl are no doubt good games but they'll never bring you nostalgia the way Red and Blue can.

luigimarioman1 You'll be surprised, I started with Red & Blue, yet Diamond seems to bring the most nostalgia to me. Don't get me wrong, I love R/B/Y but as with most Pokémon games, nostalgia varies with each game.

As I did not have Game Boy and here in Brazil is absurd expensive, the first game I played was Pokemon Ruby / Saphire on the emulator. One day I still play X / Y on the 3DS. You're still young, enjoy your life playing Pokémon. Fantastic game. Charmed and loved the soundtrack of Black / White. Not tired of messing with IV's, EV's and natures. I was born in the late twentieth century. I'll do 16

I'm going through quite a bit at the moment. Dropped out of college, lost a few friends due to mistakes I've made, and lost a few close to me these past few years. Last year, I got back into Pokémon again and recently bred my first Masuda Method shiny (Hatenna). Listening to this reminds me of when I was obsessed with this as a kid, takes me back to the good ol days, when life didn't seem cruel and harsh and all I had on my mind was finding Legendaries.

For me, and so much people in this world, pokémon isn't just a game, it's our childood, and, I'm 16 now, and I keep playing at this game, just for nostalgia, at 1st time, when I heard this song, I felt deep, I was only 8, and I was reflected so much about the life, now, when I come to the league, I just stop, and listen, crying by all the things that life done to me, the pain I felt because of 1 person, only 1, my love, my pain, she broke down my heart, and, I when I listen to this music, I remember how it was nice to be a little kid, playing his 1st time at a pkmn game, this is the symbol of my past life, and, I hope this music will never fell in the oblivion, just for all the things that it represent, for all people who listened it, who feel what I'm feeling right now, I just love this...

I don't think it was just that, after playing Emerald for countless hours, you have no idea how refreshing the idea of this game was (diamond) It was a new map, there were new legendaries. It was "The new Diamond and Pearl, the characters came out with distinctively different clothing from the previous region, wearing scarfs and clothes that would suggest sinnoh is colder than hoenn, and the overall theme and atmosphere really captured me, music included.

Everyone, I know u are crying or sad. But remember, Iwata wants us to look up and never cry of all the things weather its a tragic something. He wants us to be happy, full of joy and that was his dream and he did it. Even if he has people who dislike him or tell him to go away from nintendo, he never ever gave up Nintendo of just some silly comments and he tried his best to make everyone happy. This will be the piece I listen to in a few days when I turn 18. It will bridge the gap between 11:59pm of July 1st and 12:00am of July 2nd. Pokémon has always been such an important part of my life, and funnily enough, Diamond was my first game in the franchise. I absolutely fell in love with it, and am confident that it was the biggest source of nostalgia throughout my years as a legal child. While it will continue to have this impact on me, my childhood is coming to an end very soon. I can’t really return to who I was back then, if that makes sense. This song really encompasses my views about where I’m at - You’re at the league, almost to the end of your Pokémon journey, and this is the music they chose to include, rather than some epic, upbeat tune. It’s conflicting, because on one hand, you’ve made it this far, and are proud of what you’ve done, glad to have grown so much along the way. However, you’ve realized that this *is* the end of an era, and you can’t suddenly do it all over again (well, you can ingame lol). It’ll all be in the past before you know it, but you still have to keep going for your own sake. That’s the vibe I get from it at least. Hearing this as the soundtrack while I’m reflecting on the coming death of a huge section of my life sort of breaks me, but in the best possible way. I only noticed this piece in the game recently, but it hit me hard nonetheless. Onwards and upwards though, right? I want to enter adulthood with it playing so I can properly recognize how Pokémon has affected my now ending childhood, mourn the loss of it, and start this new saga with a glimmer of hope. I can’t thank this franchise enough for all of the fun and amazing memories it has given me - I’ll never forget my humble beginnings accidentally releasing my Chimchar because I didn’t understand what the word meant. Odd to think that was over 12 years ago. No matter what, I’ll always be that same kid, just a bit older and (hopefully) wiser. :)

God, I'll never forget this music. I was 8, First Pokemon game I ever owned, anticipating what came next after the 8th gym, realized it was the goddamn Victory Road, spent hours trying to find my way out, no potions, no elixirs, half my team dead, low HP and PP, then, I saw light. I did it. Hearing this music was an incredible relief.

The memories brought back by this song are so powerful. My brother borrowed a copy of diamond from a friend shortly after it had released, and I watched over his shoulder as he played as much as I could. I remember getting this game a little while after this. I was only around 1st grade age at the time, so I could barely read what anyone said in the game. As a result, I got stuck and lost several times, but I was mesmorized by the world I saw on my little pink ds lite. I had an empoleon, luxray, starapter, roserade, golem, and machamp. I eventually switched out golem for palkia. I had to have my brother beat Cynthia for me since I was crazy underleveled. I remember when I first arrived at the pokemon league. I left my ds open for hours listening to this song, because I thought it was so pretty and calming. Now looking back, years later, this song brings tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to have been exposed to this series, among others, at such a young age. It gave me a way to connect to my brother, who I have an unbreakable bond with to this day. It made me who I am today. The lessons taught, the characters we encountered, I've taken it all to heart. These games let me feel like a kid again. They allow me to let go of the worries of the world, even if it is just for a moment. I had several years of life where I did not give this series much attention as I used to and I felt lost and extremely depressed. I'm getting back into it and it makes me feel genuinely happy. It makes me feel like, just because I am now an adult, I don't need to let go of the things that made me happy as a child, if they still make me happy now. Thank you, Pokemon.

Listening to this and realizing that time me as a kid wouldn’t like the person I am now. I mean I was a weird kid and all and I know the key to happiness isn’t just emulating what you did as a child, but i don’t think highschool me, or middle school me, or especially even elementary school me would like the person i’ve become. I used to be this smart kid with all these obsessions and passions and now i’m some burnout at a mid college whose main pastimes are drinking and getting high. The whole point of this music is to serve as a reflection on the journey we made, but I don’t feel some bittersweet appreciation for the choices I’ve made, just regret. The feeling I get most while listening to this is just sadness, a want to go back and stop myself from losing those innocent qualities i used to have
