Silvuddy's Notes:
- Kantonian Legendary Birds: Unfortunately the original Legendary Trio never received a unique battle theme; RBY and LGPE have all Wild Pokémon Battles use the same theme regardless of status, FRLG uses a pitched up version for the birds, Platinum and HGSS use the standard Wild theme from those games, and XY uses a remixed version of the original Kanto theme for the birds shared with Mewtwo. In USUM for the wormhole battles, it just brings back the original RBY Wild theme, while SwSh has every Dynamax legendary use the same theme! These poor birds!
- Legendary Beasts: This was the first true unique Legendary theme, but it didn't actually show up until Crystal came out. In HGSS, each Beast received a version specific to them with unique characteristics: electric guitar for Raikou, a halftime feel for Entei, and upbeat bells and brass for Suicune.
- Legendary Giants: Wow, these guys have a remix for almost every Generation they've appeared in, only skipping on Gen 7. The Crown Tundra version is also special not just because the two new Giants use it, but also because it repeats the original loop an extra time with different instrumentation.
- Lake Guardians: Okay this just slaps, full stop. That bass line is killer, and while the upscaled version in BDSP isn't quite as impactful, the Legends: Arceus arrangement gives a fun spin on the original composition with some ambient electronics.
- Unova Legendaries: Black and White gave us two sub-Legendary groups, but they both share the same theme (along with Victini). There's a reason people say Gen 5 music goes hard, and this is it; pounding, syncopated bass and orchestra "chans" make this theme just too awesome.
- Guardian Deities: While Kalos didn't have any minor Legendary group, we did get the first ever quartet in Sun and Moon. The tribal element here makes this stand out as particularly unique. Note the callback to the Island Kahuna battle theme in here when the sawtooth synth comes in.
- Galarian Legendary Birds: Somehow THESE variants got a special battle theme before the originals. At least it's a banger; high tempo, chaotic synth flourishes, and a recognizable motif make me absolutely love this music even though I've never played through the DLC!
- Calyrex's Steeds: Okay.... IMO this is probably one of the few "misses" in the overall canon of Pokémon battle themes. It's not terrible by any means, but it just doesn't hook you, y'know? At least the galloping feel is fitting.
- Treasures of Ruin: These guys are just plain awesome, and their theme did NOT need to slap as hard as it does. The Eastern-style music in an otherwise Spanish-inspired game is such a refreshing surprise, and the instrument choice is just perfect. Honestly every time I hear it I can't stop singing along.
