I remember when the original rescue team games came out when I was younger. I got sick with pneumonia as a kid and this is what I took to every doctors visit.

This games def for a niche crowd. I watched the IGN review n was like, “this girl doesnt get that this is everything we love about the game”😰

When I was 9, I remember playing through Frosty Forest and Mt. Freeze while I was snowed in and the power was out. It really felt like I was isolated in a snowy wasteland with my charmander partner. Red Rescue Team was my first pokemon game, and my first taste of what a good video game plot could be. Such memories :’) I played through Explorers of Sky as a treecko. If you needed to pinch a few gold ribbons off of Kecleon, you could use agility and a mobile scarf to outrun ‘em in the walls. Mega Drain came in handy to restore the hp you lost from your belly draining wall treks. I loved finding loopholes, lol.

Thanks for the review. Mystery dungeon has special place in my heart, so to know that so many people enjoy like I do excites me a lot. When I was younger I had no idea what I was getting into with Red Rescue Team but i was enthralled by the story and being a Pokemon for the first time. When Explorers of time came into my life my love for the series grew as I was able to play as gen 4 mons (my favorite gen) and that when I started learning the story progression strats and growing a bigger bond with characters in the story. The greatest thing about MD is that my imagination runs wild every time I play. Even wrote mini stories about my game adventures. RTDX was great gateway back the series. Cheers to many more adventures in the MD world. I really want to play as a Grookey.

There's actually tracks from both Gates and Super. The medley in Oddity Cave is Gates and two tracks come from Super. Shiny Celebi is also in the game with unique dialogue. And there's actual new tracks, being I think a variant of Run Away, Unknown, and Puzzling... Which were made to make it so that the background had more music.

All I can say is Mystery dungeon was such a treasure to experience back when I first played it. I adored the music and it never failed to make me cry ;^; (Also fantastic work on these videos man, honestly you have this stuff near nailed!)

I love Nintendo spin-off RPG series, e.g. Paper Mario and PMD, and I'm optimistically holding out hope for more of both. Here's hoping we get a chance to do a Super Explorer's of Sky review.

I didn’t play this game when it came out so I was on the fence about buying it, but I gotta say it was the best decision ever after playing it even though I never played the original!

I played the original and I was one of the few Cubone players. The only thing I find in combat is the lack of struggle move, it made move saving and resource management better.

I dropped this game when I first played it but came back when I was sick home for a week and started to absolutely love it when the story picked up because it is a pokemon game where there is a actual good story.

I havent played a mystery dungeon since mystery dungeon red when I was like 6 I had so many memories. And I have not played a single one since but I was reminiscing about it today and am really considering buying it and reliving my child hood a little bit :)

Great review! I wanted to get the game when it came out but wasn’t sure if it was worth $60. I love the series but never fully completed one as a kid since I spent more time in the mainline series and other games.

I think I prefer the original, mainly because I’m nostalgic for the sprites. But as someone who hated the 3Ds games I think this is a big improvement.

Actually listening to it closely, I think the remixed version of the remake IS actually slightly remixed, some instruments sound different, to me at least

No one would ever try to get all Pokémon in mystery dungeon red/blue 😅 I have my mystery dungeon red around with over 250h, couldn't do it as a kid in that time, crazy if someone did it. I struggled so hard in higher dungeons as a kid, respect to all late game players

I would love to play the remake but honestly i just love the pixelly graphics from back then too much so I'd end up playing it on my ds again, grinding for mew in the ruins. I really like the dungeon designs but not a big fan of the other graphics, if they were more realistic i think it would've been a better remake personally

Great review, I'm so happy to see that there is so many people who love this game. Does anyone know if you can change the settings of the game to be more like the original used to be? As in limit your team to 4 team mates, turn off auto-run and turn off ep share? I love the original to bits and was so happy when I realized that this is a remake, however I feel like a biiiig part of why I used to love those games is because they were a lot more difficult so everything felt more like an accomplishment. And I feel like the auto-run feature in particular (and maybe the exp share) would just suck the fun out of the game for me (I know I could just not use the auto-run, but I know as long as it's readily available I'll probably end up using it anyways even though it will take a lot of fun out of the game for me)

I would love this game better if the 3d models didn't look so clunky, it's like they don't move naturally

Is explorer team sky the best for first timers?

I remember playing blue rescue team when I was younger but I thought it was a 'fake pokemon' because of how different it was and until now i had always thought it was a fake (idk how i thought that for so long like how would anyone get away with that?)

I kinda disagree about the game not having enough content. Sure the majority of the content comes from the original, but the postgame dungeons still retain a similar length and difficultly, enough to give many players hours of fun and challenge. Taking that and the ability to catch them all, and this game easily eclipses any main series game as far as content goes

Hello! For someone who's played only Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon on the 3DS and didn't really like it, would you still recommend this game?

I would've been disappointed if they *didn't* include Lucario. I mean, the highest rank in the original is Lucario rank, and Alakazam says Lucario is his idol.

The difficulty is still super hard, it's BARELY dumbed down. All other pokemon levelling up isn't really making the game easier, it just makes the pool of pokemon you can use alot higher. You're still gonna get bashed at joyous Tower. Not to mention the "oh you game overed? You've lost ALL ITEMS AND MONEY YOU HAD"

the empowerment seeds are better than the awakening emera in super mystery dungeon

you can tell the comments in the beginning arent from pmd fans because only game journalists would say a randomly generated game is samey because they kept getting stuck in one area

I only hope that they continue making more Mystery Dungeon not a another remake a new story adding the 7 and 8 gen pokemon

I loved rescue team dx, until I got to mew and did over 10 runs only to never find him even once and I hard waited on the rooms he spawned in, that hardcore turned me off since I was recruiting every legendary and mythical pokemon

Hmmm.. I loved mystery dungeon when it came out on the ds. Started over again and again. Still remember my original file's names even: Carla and Slim. But the graphics in this game....😑 something bout it just is offputting.

Let me say the main series pokemon is widely influenced even though it's technically the same turn based game (to the point where story is a downer) at the start I'll admit I did hate pmd because I was a dumb 8 year old that didn't know how attack works heck the reason why I hated pokemon from my 10 to 13 old times. After I got reintroduce in the pokemon mainseries by my friends I got into it. Then I had a thought of the first pokemon game (which I stopped at TINY WOODS) (apologies here because this game was on my bootleg 37 in 1 cartrage) I gave it a shot then DAMN I never realized how good- no GREAT it was F- during that time I never thought a pokemon game would be dark. (As in trying to hunt down the MC). As I tried the other pmd games. Pfff.. None of em failed to make me emotional yet attached to a game SO much. My friend that introduced me pokemon didn't try the PMD series thou which is a bummer.... Storywise the Explorers Games Story was A MASTERPIECE Both from The Soundtracks and Story! Call me a crybaby because I can't play the whole story without feeling emotional as I completed it several times. "Spinoff? Masterpiece? First time I used that in the same sentence " + I'll say this but the ones who played Explorers at that time actually DIDN'T judge the game by its graphics unlike IGN saying it the game could be remade in a Gameboy and Lazy story and a GRIND (aka every pokemon game but they didn't complained about it)

I refuse to do digital copies of the Pokemon games. Unfortunately a new copy in stores it's still $60. Look at pokemon games on DS and 3ds physical copies are like $100+ used. Don't get me started on a genuine pokemon emerald cartridge @_@ my brother is on the hunt for that game and it's insane at what people pay for them.
