Composed by Morikazu Aoki. Recreated by me. What makes this different from the regular restored version? This one sources its sounds from the Roland Sample CD collection rather than the sound canvas. The sound canvas samples were themselves compressed to save space on its tiny ROM just as the samples in the game are. The CD releases allowed for much larger storage, and full quality patches. The result is a clearer and higher quality mix, at the expense of the french horn not really sounding the same. Follow me on Twitter for more updates: / princesamlet

Wow, the quality difference is incredible! The horn really does sound so odd compared to the compressed sample. Makes me respect even more how much of a balancing act these restorations much be from your end!

It's probably not the same samples for that one. They had one that was closer but it was too compressed and sounded out of place with the rest of the mix. Roland mixes and mashes different things in all its products so it can be difficult to tell what's what. They also license different samples from other places, so in many cases Roland might not have even recorded it

Quality sounds similar to the RSC versions to me, yet could simply be the earphones I use are not that great ( or the computer's amplifier perhaps ). I do hear the instrument difference though.

That's bizarre how different the CD samples sound. They don't even really sound much like the Sound Canvas samples even. Is it just that they have way more samples per instrument? If memory is right the Sound Canvas 88/8850 trumpet only has like 5 samples, but here I honestly can't pick out a single one of them- each sample here sounds totally different. Same for the strings- although the Sound Canvas still has a decent amount of strings samples, here it sounds like almost every note is its own sample. Would love to track one of these CDs down and just dig into how different everything is to the SC.

More samples per instrument, longer samples, in stereo rather than mono, and in a higher sample rate. The French Horn is definitely not the same one, so it's an imperfect art. The CDs have a bunch of different patches so it's not clear which ones are from the Sound Canvas and they're hard to sift through and analyze. They're all available as disc images on archive.org and if you have Kontakt 5 you can open them
