This is is a comprehensive guide on how to hunt using the Island Scan. It’s a very, very unique method and I’ve had a ton of luck trying it out. I would urge you all to do this.

Correction you don't have to wait for after the main story. I had a litwick on my main team for the story. It wasn't shiny tho.

The_Amazing_Imptini Not all areas are unlocked during the main story meaning many of the Island Scan Pokemon can't be obtained. That's why I decided to go with that. I would recommend anyone to do it post game anyway. Thanks!

@Sonikks Another extremely important tip is using a synchronize pokemon. It's unlike any of the past repel tricks in older generation games. Its weird because you cannot have a fainted synchronizer in front of the party and a Pokémon in the second slot of the same level for the repel trick. Even if the fainted synchronizer and the second slot Pokémon are the same level for the RT, it will literally repel everything including the island scan Pokémon. So if you want a good nature, a live synchronizer needs to be in front of the party.

While you are correct, the problem you'll face by not using Illuminate as your lead field ability is a reduced amount of encounters per hour. It will be roughly 25% slower if you don't use it as field abilities do not stack - you have to use one or the other, Sync or Illuminate. You are correct, but I wouldn't do it personally. A lot of full odds hunters tend to prefer the randomness of natures too but obviously it's just personal preference.

Sonikks Lol yeah it does go by a bit slower, but for me I've always been a full odds hunter who liked 'better" natures (Of course, I do enjoy method hunting during a break). I guess you can say it started during Gen 4 and that's where I really got into competitive Pokémon battling with my friends. Don't get me wrong I also like using illuminate, but for me personally, the encounters in Gen 7 are a perfect balance. Like Gen 4 RTs, I would use both a Synchro and illuminate depending on terrain (Gen 4 to me, is the fastest; i can do over 1000 REs in around 5-6 hours). Gen 5 had amazing RTs especially with O powers, so I rarely used illuminate (pretty much my starting point of going Full Odds). Gen 6 is where I used Illuminate the most (specifically X/Y), since for me the encounter rates felt the absolute sluggish of all Pokémon games. Overall, I just wished Gen 7 had more repel tricks and I guess I don't mind the 25% drop in encounter, but to each their own :D

Magnet Pull worked for me while hunting Honedge and Aggron. No hate, but I believe it does work even on island scan Pokémon. That’s just my experience. I did this in USUM. I did 4 separate hunts. One with magnet pull and one without. It seems to work very well. Or I’m just stupidly lucky 😂

I just tested it and found that Static did not affect encounter rates during my hunt for Luxio. I did 500 repel trick encounters with Static and 500 without, and each time Luxio made up 81% of my encounters. Edit: here's a full breakdown if anyone's interested *With Static* Luxio - 406 (81.2%) Yungoos/Rattata - 22 (4.4%) Fletchinder - 14 (2.8%) Trumbeak - 32 (6.4%) Salandit - 19 (3.8%) Stufful - 7 (1.4%) *Without Static* Luxio - 404 (80.8%) Yungoos/Rattata - 30 (6.0%) Fletchinder - 17 (3.4%) Trumbeak - 27 (5.4%) Salandit - 17 (3.4%) Stufful - (1.0%)

I have a question Let’s say I tried to find a certain Pokémon that appears only on Monday and I save it. But I don’t find it on Monday and try again on Tuesday Would it be a different Pokémon? If so, then I would have to wait until it’s that day again?

The Pokémon that appears will change daily. You can see a full list on Serebii/Bulbapedia. You can just change the DS clock to the day corresponding to the Pokémon you want.

Funny enough there's only one island scan Pokémon that you can do a repel trick for 100% encounter rate. In USUM, Bulbasaur is lvl 10 while the rest in the grass patches are lvl 9. Dunno if that was in the original sun and moon but it's in USUM.

In the video the rough estimation chance rates in percent means these shiny pokémons have around 7.5% chance with the repel trick? And with that serperior have around 70% chance to be shiny too? I ask these without shiny charm. And these pokémons have higher chance to be shiny like this only? Please answer me anybody, who sure know these! Or mainly the video maker person Sonikks please answer me for these to make these more clear! Thank you.

The shiny rate is 1/4096. It's independent of the % of the Pokémon.

@@Viltord nope. You just encounter the pokemon more. You can't boost the shiny odds for Island Scan except by having the Shiny Charm. The percentages you see are the encounter rates using the Repel Trick.

The Pokémon are set to specific days, on specific islands. Check Bulbapedia for the days and target mate.

so when the day is over you set it back to the previous day in order to keep hunting the same pokemon? I have been hunting for 6 days and each time the day changes I set it back to May 23rd so that Duosion will always be the island scan pokemon.

Not better/faster, per say. Masuda Method is still faster, but this gives pokemon not usually available in Alola games.

You certainly don't need to SR after every encounter. I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion but as I said in the video, you have one hour of Island Scan. Random Encounter hunt for an hour, SR once your Island Scan runs out, start again.

Meteor Mash Same level, otherwise it wouldn't be a repel trick. Illuminate is better because it's 100% increase where as Arena Trap is only 50%.

Yes that would work. That's referred to as a "Hard reset". It will take much longer but you can still do it this way.

I like finding a Pokémon I want and then using the special QRs the day before it shows. This allows me to hunt for two things in one day if I so choose or if a different shiny pops up I can just do a second hunt.

No, it stays an hour. Then you reset. You just keep encountering until it's shiny.

For those wondering if you can run away and then try to find it again: It hasn't seemed to work for me, I could not find it after, so go for the soft reset method, it's the same as many other shiny hunts.

So, it appears that static and magnet pull do affect island scan hunts. We were discussing this on a shiny hunter's stream and there was a dataminer present, who looked through the games code and couldn't see anything to suggest that static and magnet pull would not affect island scan encounters. There may be another thing that we are missing, but we would just like to know where you got that information from?

& who was the dataminer? Data was received by dataminers, lol. Albeit things have been discovered about features later on which have later been proven to be false, but I guess I'll ask them again and if there's anything new found, I'll make a pinned comment on this. Until I see otherwise however, I'm trusting my sources. (albeit this is a completely pointless debate as the repel trick is better for these hunts than Static/Magnet pull is anyway).

Ah I see, no worries. I'm a dataminer myself, and there WAS nothing to suggest it affected the encounter table. I've asked the question again to the real brains of datamining (the people who really did do it all) but I'm confident everyone was correct last year (though it might have changed in USUM, who knows). Keep in mind that Gen 7 is also full of random RNG and code bugs (Ash Hat PIkachu being shiny) I would also advise to take "I'm a dataminer" on Twitch with a grain of salt. I'm sure you're aware that I'm a streamer and the amount of people who said in my chat that they're a dataminer when in reality, they're not, is ridiculous. I'm not doubting what you're saying, but I trust my sources more than a random who doesn't have a YT channel and I think you can appreciate that. If this turns out you're correct, I'll post a pinned comment and annotation naturally but I would very much doubt it at this point. Better to repel trick it anyway.

Is your Pokémon fainted? It won't work if your Repel lead is fainted.

No, it doesn't work. Pokemon has illumante, and repel is not 'excluding' this pokemon.

The gender ratios are the same, so if you're looking for a female Starter, give yourself 8 times to encounter it (DO NOT KNOCK OUT THE ISLAND SCAN POKEMON! RUN). One of the 8 will be Female. That goes for any Island Scan pokemon. The gender ratios are the one normal for that species.

They are different in ultra sun and moon which is why you are getting chesnaught. Serperior is in regular sun and moon

You soft reset if you encounter it and it isn't shiny ringht?

Get your Island Scan active, save, activate Island Scan, encounter. If it's not shiny and the hour is over, reset. Activate Island Scan again. Repeat until either you find the Shiny or it is the next day.

Sonikkts excuse moi enfaite je navais pas compris langlais dont jai traduit et oui ok dsl merci pour lexplication mais sa veut dire que ta 70 a 75 de tomber sur le pokemon island et les autre 7,5 de tomber sur le reste pour partout ca marche

I got a gothita for my first island scan mon and she was less then 20 encounters, then I caught totodile, then duosion before i tried for deino, I caught roselia yesterday morning and I'm hunting klink or venipede today
