I find it hilarious that they play Pokemon Yellow and the most optimal strat is just to ditch Pikachu ASAP, thus negating the entire gimmick of the game 😆

It’s great. There is also a Pikachu% category, but they have to grind foreverrrr and Brock is a nightmare.

There are more gimmicks of the game. Like the whole Team Rocket plotline is different. Gym leaders have different teams as well. Like Private Surge who became the biggest pushover with just a Raichu.

That's pretty much the case in every game in speed running though, the intended strats/gimmicks are always the least optimal. lol

It's also necessary for the catch manip on Pidgey to work. Any more characters in Nidoran's name and it would not be guaranteed.

Gen I quirk, animations are always on for the champion fights even if disabled in the options.

Thats a deliberately programmed thing to make the final fight more cinematic or whatever.

The game is hardcoded to have animations on for champion fight at the end, even if you've turned them off. All the gen 1 games are like that.

So to explain the 1-in-256 miss: When you use a move in Gen 1, the game rolls a random number against your total accuracy, from 0 to 255 [100% accuracy is 255]. When your number is greater than the number rolled by the game, your move hits. But since 255 isn't greater than 255, the move will fail.

They missed an equals sign when coding the accuracy of moves, so rolling a 255 is a miss

I'm honestly really pleased. Yellow was my first Pokemon game, and it actually made me like Pikachu way less. I loved evolving Pokemon as a kid, and I was so upset that I couldn't evolve Pikachu. I've always liked Raichu more ever since.
