Poke a Dot Old McDonald Had a Farm - Read-Aloud 

This book (tinyurl.com/po...) from Melissa and Doug is a fine counting book overall, using a singalong approach. (Read Nancy Stewart's thoughts on "Books that Sing" here: singwithourkid...) But what makes this book special is the poke-a-dot feature. As you count the animals, you poke the dot and it makes a popping sound (like bubble wrap, but you can use it again and again.) This is great for teaching one-to-one correspondence, a foundational skill for math learning. Each one will only pop once as you read through the book. So, if the child accidentally tries to count something twice, they get the clue that they already counted that one. If they miss one, you can point out that its bubble is not yet popped.
