Pokeweed is a toxic plant that people have historically used for many different purposes. From cooking the shoots and greens to using different parts of the plants for various ailments, you should always respect the fact that this plant is toxic and treat it as such. I would never recommend that somebody eats any part of this plant unless they are well aware of the risk involved. If you do take the risk of consuming this plant, always start out small and be sure to research the plant and any interactions it may have with medications you take before you do so. My reaction to pokeweed is only moderate and it helps with my back and hip pain so I deem the risk acceptable for me, but you are the only person that can properly assess the risk/reward that this plant poses to you.
