I always found interesting how Iris dragonite went against the nature of his species, usually dragonites are very chill pokemon, damm, ash's dragonite in journeys is a hug machine, it is very rare to see one as angry as this one.
Iris’s Dragonite did mellow out a lot, but it strange that it has a naturally gruff disposition. I like how it contrasts with Ash’s, as both are hearty battlers, but their personalities are total opposites. (Also would’ve been cute if they developed an Odd Couple dynamic, since it’s heavily implied that Iris’s is male and Ash’s is female.)
Normally dragonites are calm in the wild. However as you can see when team rocket annoyed dragonite before ash caught his they can be aggressive. Irises dragonite looked angry but had a good heart. It’s only cause people falsely accused it of something it didn’t do it hardened up towards humans. Also before iris it never felt human love. You can also see the same aggression towards irises dragonite with Claire dragonite when it stepped on a flower. Or with Claire dragonite when it went on a rampage
Perhaps that’s why this one is so unique. And while Dragonite take on the appearance of Western dragons (which are often very destructive), they have the behavior of an Eastern dragon.
I think Iris is underrated too. But I personally think her Dragonite needs to burn in Hell for being an OBNOXIOUS ***hole to her for no reason. But you’re entitled to your opinion
@@meta527II Well that comment was a year ago, before Dragonite became more of a jobber. Honestly, it was dealt a bad hand. The only times it won was when it was being disobedient and I guess the writers didn't think of giving him a win anytime afterwards...
@@ProfessorAlexSilver HEAR ME OUT MAMOSWINE INDEFINITELY DESERVED TO WIN I'M PRETTY SURE MANY ARE ANGRY AT THE ANIME FOR TREATING ALMOST ALL OF THE POKEMON DIRTY
I wonder if it's so aggro because it was bullied when younger as a Dratini or easily beaten. It has such a chip on its shoulder that there must be some sort of trauma involved (imo)
@@ProfessorAlexSilver if you ask me the entire thing was kind of rushed like they forgot that she was supposed to have dragon Pokemon so they just slapped her the most powerful one that they could think about that's not a legendary
What a great video! It was interesting to see Iris go from pretty tame and weak pokemon, to a fully evolved dragon type powerhouse. It created a complex dynamic, as Iris had never had a Pokémon that powerful to command before!
@@ProfessorAlexSilver & @T R I'd say Iris's Excadrill is a pretty powerful Pokémon but I agree to an extent, Iris's Dragonite was way above her level as a trainer at the point she caught it but Iris eventually became a worthy master of a Dragonite.
I think it was for the best that he joined as a Dragonite because we don't need another Charizard arc every season. So it's refreshing that the reason he disobeyed Iris was because he felt that it was good enough to battle on his own and just felt like he needed to stay close to Iris because he was in her debt.
Dragonite probably initially joined her so he can have more access to stronger opponents. Dragonite’s goal is to be the strongest, and Iris is a trainer, so Dragonite thought he could achieve his goal more efficiently if he stuck to a trainer.
Honestly you should’ve waited to do this video prof Silver since Iris’s Dragonite is most likely gonna return with her In journeys. (I can’t wait for him to meet Ash’s Dragonite as well.)
I bet the Japanese writer decided to get Iris to catch her own Dragonite since they had no intention to get Iris's Axew to evolve the way up to Haxorus back in Pokemon Black and White Series because Axew is popular to them for it's cutness.
@@madnessarcade7447 we'll see in this Friday episode to know for sure if Iris's Axew have finally evolved into Haxorus off screen and the preview is a flashback.
I like how both charizard and dragonite has a similarity about didn't listen to their trainers before but now they do and they are also their trainer's strongest pokemon in the team
Yeah I remember her dragonite, it was tough and reckless from withstanding the hidden power and ice beam from Georgia’s Beartic like it was nothing, it was savage. But it is helpful, heck it even helped that amporous learned thunder punch. But overall, it and Iris became of team, regardless of its attitude and it didn’t trust humans before they became a team cause you know they thought it destroyed that power beam on purposed and it crash landed on accident from its injured wing and they wanted to attack it and Iris came to his rescue.
@@danpan7695 you dont know the Preview actually did not clarified is the Axew is a wild one or Iris's since we see Axew in the city while Iris in the forest and both did not shared a single screen time together
Iris’ Dragonite always makes me think of my Tapu Koko in game. It has an adamant nature with the characteristic “likes to thrash about” and I taught it two recoil moves (Wild Charge and Brave Bird) along with U-Turn and Nature’s Madness. It fits well with Tapu Koko’s lore established love for battle, and my headcanon is that its an aggressive warrior who isn’t afraid to give 110% (hence the recoil damage) but still knows how to use tactics to find advantageous situations (U-Turn). All of that is a bit much, but essentially what I’m trying to say is, it’s fun when you have a Pokémon who’s nature, characteristic and move set all align to give it more of a personality.
this was such a nice overview on some cool stuff from the unova anime, since I completely skipped over the season. Also, kalos really went off with the animation of cool looking dragon attacks and it seems it started in unova. I also super agree with you on wishing iris caught it as dratini. I learned that ash got dragonite in galar and it follows the theme of just giving ash a bunch of wildly powerful fan favorites but I really wish he could have caught it as dratini or even dragonair. It would have given him (or iris if she caught it as dratini) a chance to have some interesting fights and strategies. even with how clair had dragonair as an ace in her gym battle, it would have been nice to see them earn their dragonites a bit more.
Unova was all kinds of weird. After Ash was hitting his strategic peak in Sinnoh, the writing suddenly hit the reset button on his brain and Team Rocket turned into competent villains. Then he got smart again in Kalos. It got mildly better during the second half when they started to follow B2W2 (this is when Iris got Dragonite and Charizard came back).
Hi, prof... I was following you from that time when you had 1000 subscribers. And I'm very happy to see your channel growing. And yeah!✌ Zac also gave you a shout out. 😊
Y'know, I thought you might've saved this for later considering Dragonite is literally a few days away from making a reappearance but I can't wait for the update. I liked Dragonite but I feel like it was retreading old ground (that ground being Excadrill) being a Charizard clone. But after a revisit it seems they both use this idea in unique ways to each other. I do agree with your gripe of it probably being better if she started off as a Dratini so it could grow instead of already basically being Iris ace straight from the catch. Gripes aside I do really like Dragonite and it's more honourable moments as well as ones where it shows it's soft on the inside despite it's rough exterior some times.
I admit, I missed a fair number of episodes of Unova due to poor grades as a kid, and I haven't had time to rewatch them. All of the episodes I saw were of Dragonite not listening. This history certainly helped improve my opinion on Dragonite! Though I do agree that it would have been cooler to see it as a Dratini. Especially if it was already powerful and evolved quickly, similar to Ash's Charizard, and especially if it had a bigger winning streak. I think that would have really helped to cement Dragonite as a powerful force, while letting us see how powerful it was before it evolved! I do feel like I understand Dragonite more now! I hope to see it again in Journeys.
Hey Elsa, glad I could help fill in some holes from your original watching experience :) I just covered its return in Journeys if you're looking to see how it performed
This video is so perfect for this week because iris returning in 65 on Friday this week, and we gonna see a dragonite vs dragonite battle (ash vs iris)
Thanks! I've written most of Quilava already, but it's hard not to get angry at its Johto league performance and the fact that its battle in Sinnoh was cut short haha

@@ProfessorAlexSilver it's obvious who well win , cause of the trailer. Quite simple too . Ash's dragonite is like in its cute stage , with iris , her dragonite is a fighter . Nice to see dracovish get air time in battle .
(This comment isn't specifically related to this video, but its the first one you've uploaded since I subbed and I had to make my voice heard lol) So I was recently turned onto this channel, and I gotta say, I am hooked! The time, effort and research you put into each video really shows. The videos are such fun nostalgia trips for me as a lifelong Pokemon fan who still watches the anime, to this day. Seeing the battle stats all in one place is really fascinating. I am currently doing a marathon watch from episode 1 to present day, and already the growth I am seeing in your production quality is astounding in such a seemingly short span of time. Keep up the great work! PS: Its just an added bonus that you are extremely easy on the eyes (and ears.) I could watch you talk all day long. Pokenerd Husband material achieved!
It’s kinda funny. For someone aspiring to become a Dragon master and having vast knowledge on Dragon type Pokémon, she still had to struggle with the Dragon types she had on hand Axew had a Dragon type move that kept failing, and Dragonite refused to listen to her. Iris need to take time to understand her own Pokémon better for things to go in her favour.
This class was a well-timed as we are getting the Iris vs Ash battle this Friday, so I am hyped. Looking at the stats, it looks like there will be a tough competition between both the Dragons. Wondering if you'd make a bonus class video after the episode. Great video.
I liked the part when Dragonite flexed it’s bicep at Iris. I wonder if Dragonite knows Scary Face, because that point when it’s veins came out of its forehead would’ve made almost any Pokémon shiver.
Two things First, I am mad that iris was just giving this powerful of a wild pokemon instead of training her axeu to evolve into her true ace Second, every time dragonite lost it was to a pokemon with dragon claw, and because ash dragonite has that move, do you think the strick will continue
Hey man! This was my first time visiting ur channel and I gotta say this was a good first video to watch from you! Excellent editing, super high quality and very engaging! It was a nice nostalgic look back at Iris’ Dragonite and to see some great scenes from BW. Great work and I can’t wait to watch more!
Iris's Dragonite seems to be as tough and bad tempered as Ash's Charizard so it isn't surprising that they wanted to fight the second they saw each other.
At the same time, this is the perfect week for this Analysis, also wish you waited 1 more week, for Dragonite's return in just 4 days! Lol Regardless, great class Prof.! 😁😁😁
That's one tough Dragonite. I love Dragonite and Flygon, as well as the other Dragon Pokemon. Since Gyrados resembles a Chinese dragon, it should have Dragon as a second typing, rather than flying.
Lumiose Trainer Zac recommended me to you and I have to say I love your content. That being said, could you do a history on Ash's strongest flying type Swellow?
Great stuff just discovered the channel. a suggestion would be a win/loss percentage when going over that at the end of the videos for Pokémon with many battles throughout their appearances.
Thanks! I considered adding a Win/Loss ratio (and have it some of my early videos), but it's difficult to measure exactly since so many of the battles are subjective (for example, beating Mismagius) and Team Rocket fights are super messy haha. I'll definitely add in some percentages though when I can cover leagues/gyms and be more precise
@@ProfessorAlexSilver you are targeting anime in this series so why not games for the other, if your into the pokemon games . That would be great to watch!
