I think the issue really is just time, because now the Pokemon games are trying to tackle these high concept ideas but never have the actual time in the oven to execute them in a proper way. There definitely needs to be longer gabs so that there isn't franchise fatigue and so that the employees have time to cook

Absolutely agree! The games themselves are all good, they just need time to make sure they are polished and play as intended. The attention to detail seems to be missing :)

i agree on the idea that pixel art would still be great, however i wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that they shouldn’t try to make a good 3d pokémon. Scarlet and Violet were not bad because they were 3D, they were bad cause they were just made poorly. You don’t need to go back to pixel art to make games that don’t suck

I think they could do both, if they are going to continue with the 3D I would like them to put more time into the releases so they are polished. The 3D sprites look good, I just want them to look GREAT :D

I've said this before (multiple times), and I will say again: modern Pokemon just needs more time. SwSh needed time. Legends needed time. SV needed LOTS of time. That's all what they need, but with how globalized Pokemon has become, it's hard to take this time to properly allocate their development cycles for each game. Thankfully they learned with Legends ZA as that's a game releasing three years after SV, so hopefully they learned from Legends and SV and applying it there. But we just have to wait and see.

How to say Legends was largely fine but I think it would have benefited it then if they merged it and Scarlett and violet into one game. They've basically cover each other's weaknesses perfectly

I’m excited to see how legends Za will be! I have really high hopes and I think it will turn out to be a really good game. Having that long for development should give it the edge it needs :) I love the videos btw :)

@@desdar100 No. SV should have been a 2024 release and leave Legends as its own game for its own year. The sad truth was that Pokemon Company were greedy and didn't give their best game time to even breathe.

Someone took the Scarlet & Violet backdrop and put Mario 64 assets in front of it and you could barely tell the difference. How does your background just fit with a N64 game bro

The games simply need more development time. We don't get a BOTW every year in the Zelda series because it's unreasonable to expect a AAA game every year from one studio. Pokémon could get away with a game a year when it was on the handheld consoles and they were compared to the downscaled games, but it's on homeconsole and it's rime to slow down so they actually can release complete games. These AAA games are way too complex for their current stratergy.

In my opinion, Pokemon doesn’t need to focus on graphics. It’s never been a game about graphics, let’s get this out of the way now. Pokémon should just go back to the 2D pixel Art style and just focus on making an engaging story and return random encounters. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. We don’t need updated graphics, or Pokémon walking around the over-world if they break the game and make the story suffer as an end result. This is what will make the games great again.

I have been saying this for the longest time. It has been abundantly clear GameFreak is too small of a company to handle 3D, they bare got by with 2D back then with Gold and Silver. Go back to 2D.

Very well put! I think the 2D style was great. Look at games like Octopath Traveler and they could do that for their graphics. It would breathe a ton of life into the series :)

Feel silly not seeing this before I made my comment but yes completely agree. Same way Sonic doesn't work well in 3D, it hasn't got the charm. We don't expect perfection with pixel graphics but when we see 3D characters walk cycles not matching up with their movements it looks so bad - pixel art doesn't suffer that effect nearly as much. They need a Sonic Mania approach, take the original graphics, make them work on a larger screen and give the pixel art more attention that it couldn't have whilst restricted to game boy cartridges.

One issue. 150 pokemon with 150 moves is 22,500 combinations. 300 pokemon with 300 moves is 90,000 combinations. Each time they add more pokemon and attacks, the amount of work balloons.

Yeah that creates a lot of issues down the line. I hope they create a way to make it easier to integrate older pokemon into the games but I can understand how it creates huge issues

They change which Pokémon are in each game as well as removing/adding moves that certain Pokémon are able to learn in each game, so they already tackled this issue

I'll be the 3D pokemon defender here because I do *not* get what people mean when they say 3D pokemon has no charm. One of the most magical pokemon experiences in my 30 years of being a pokemon fan was seeing wild pokemon run up to me, trying to investigate curiously or challenge me to battle, and that was in SwSh. SV has made it even more engaging for me, just the other day I followed a Carkoal and Rolycoly wander down a path together for almost a full minute before turning to each other and "talking"(they took turns emoting at each other) while completely ignoring me and it felt just like stumbling on real animals interacting in nature.

Yeah I agree, I can’t believe they haven’t given Ludicolo a signature move called “Salsa Slide.” GameFreak needs to rectify this blunder at once.

I don't think you'd have an issue with DLC if the base game was already excellent. When I was a kid, I had no problem asking my parents for Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, etc, but as an adult, I think I would have a bit of an issue buying a $60 game that is 95% the same as a game I bought & played the crap out of only a year prior. DLC is the obvious & superior (in my eyes) replacement for the way it used to be done.

I am begging for someone to say something different instead of saying the same half remembered nonsense. Sun and moons story was one of the best in the series, and it's definitely better than x and ys,scarlet and violets story is much better than black and white simply because it didnt chicken out last minute sword and sheild have the best art style out of any of the 2d games

I think the games are good! I just want them to be GREAT. I think sun and moon were not great because i couldn’t get passed team skull but the aether foundation was a great villain. I also can’t agree about the black and white statement because the villain group just seemed to actually have a plan instead of being kids who were mad about not fitting in. The stories were fine but not as good as they could have been. Area Zero was a good story though

I like how team skull took the evil team and did something interesting with it. The evil team really shouldn't be the make or break of the story, like Lilly was a great character and I loved seeing her come more and more out of her shell and the fact that we the main antagonist is the person who made her feel the way she did was a nice touch. Black and whites story completely thrown out team plasma motivation at the end of the story, so all the questions they asked during the story ment nothing. Oh no pokemon is telling a well told story that might relate to its target audience instead of one that just backs down from its themes and try to distract you with edgy stuff

Game freak has made magic in the past and they could have stuck with the theme scarlet and violet had…but maybe give the characters genuine personality and life. I agree with what u said about sun and moon tho I love those games. You could tell the characters had at least SOME thought and love put into their creation unlike in S/V which seemed so lifeless imo. It was a fun game tho, the characters were awful

Even if z-a miraculously comes out fine, we would still have to worry about gen 10 a year later. Even with the extra year, I don’t know if they’ll be able to perform any kind of miracle. Either way, my favorite Pokémon will most likely not even be in gen 10, so I won’t even bother

Pokémon just needs more time. A new Pokemon game should be an event like Zelda, 3D Mario, Mario Kart etc. But they release a game every year so the flaws are a lot more noticeable.

One of the things I want most is for Gamefreak to use better animations for Pokemon like Colosseum, XD, and Battle Revolution. I know that those spin offs were made by a different company but that's why it baffles me that the main company can't do it. I really want to see more personality based on how the pokemon move, stand still, attack, and get hit. Also if Pokemon ever releases a Gameboy Legacy Collection similar to Mega man Battle Network, I would be willing to spend $100 in a heartbeat with no hesitation. A physical version would be a bonus of course.

I would drop so much on a legacy collection for the Switch, and i think they should do more with the animations becuase watching a pokemon spin in a circle before a move is lazy :D

Gotta catch them all isn’t even their catch phrase anymore. It wasn’t even a catch phase in Japan either. I believe in Japan their phase was catch them if you can or something like that. The phase gotta catch them all was dropped at the start of gen 3 with the anime and on the games. It was used in the west but I don’t think it was used in Japan or least I don’t know. The phase wasn’t seen again until in the anime in gen 6 in 2013 but that was as far as it went. Their catch phase now is train on. A lot of people believe that going 3d was the worst mistake that pokemon made and should go back to 2d for the mainline games. Going fully 3d in 2013 was a good thing for pokemon when you consider that before going full 3d in 2013, we had 2d with 3d aspects starting with in gen 4 and gen 5 which had that in those each of those games in those generations including heart gold and soul silver in gen 4 and then they went fully 3d in 2013. Pokemon hasn’t been in 2d since 2012 over 12 I think years ago now with the release of black and white 2 in 2012. Or it will be until October of 2024 which will be the anniversary month of black and white 2. I don’t they will go back to 2d considering that right now they are now going into semi open world games with legends z-a and legends arceus and open world games with scarlet and violet. Just like gamefreak first went into hd in 2018 with the release of let’s go since that was their first hd main line game and that game was a remake of yellow since red and green had their remake of fire red and leaf green in 2004. Pokémon went from staring from 2d in gen 1 to gen 3 to 2d with 3d aspects in gen 4 and gen 5 to fully 3d in gen 6 and 7 to fully 3d in hd and semi open world with gen 8 to fully open world with fully 3d and hd in gen 9 with the mainline pokemon games.

I think legends ZA will be a good way to see if they are able to get the 3D HD open worlds going well. It’s a new era and I like to cut them some slack but the games performing like they do is sad. If they were to take more time and polish them more I think they would be much better. :D

I can understand almost all of these points all valid for the most part. I feel like graphics were for the most part passable till sv. I also find it comical that they won’t just release gba games for like 10-15 bucks a pop on virtual console it’s literally a gold mine they refuse to cash in on. The one take I half agree with is the story take gen 7 was average story wise gen 8 was bad but gen 9 was fantastic with the multiple side arcs that all led to making great characters that flourished during the final arc that was fantasticly done yes it is slightly predictable that the professor is gonna be evil or have something wrong with them but I genuinely didn’t expect the ai part till I got to area zero. Yes the main villain groups have been terrible since gen 6 but that doesn’t mean gen 9 is a bad story. Overall this is a great video with lots of valid points.

Sw/Sh had decent graphics, especially in towns and routes. The wild area seemed like they were doing a bit too much. I am going to make a video about the GBA point though as I don’t see why they won’t release it :)

I mean the problem was always rush. game freak tries you can tell but they need to give their developers some time, which they are doing right now, so I think za will have a much better quality then legends Arceus and aspecially scarlet violet

The 3D stuff just never did it for me, it doesn't have the charm of pixel art. They could make much bigger games/make games more quickly if they focused on incredible pixel art rather than this obsession with 3D and more realistic graphics. Cuphead and Undertale proved you dont need cutting edge 3D graphics to succeed.

@@CammieRacingthey don’t only need hyper realistic graphics for 3D games. They can do cel shading or other things. I get that not having pixel art can lose its charm but you can’t please everyone.

It seems to me that GF is one of those companies that seems to have hard time listening to consumers. GF have even tried to innovate their games and show different mechanics, but it seems to me that this is far from what the public wants and in addition it takes some time to implement new mechanics. Furthermore, GF has a bad habit of abandoning mechanics from generation to generation, for example mega evolutions and z-moves were excellent ideas, but GF ended up abandoning these concepts in the following generations and then focusing on G-Max and Terrastralization, which make battle mechanics even more confusing and chaotic, showing how these mechanics require more time to implement. Obviously when new games come out every 3 years, they end up lacking some originality, just see that the starters in Scarlet and Violet ended up with second typings similar to the starters in Legends Arceus and then a cat starter, Sprigatito, evolving into Dark just like Litten, which shows a lot of laziness. I'm not even going to talk about the graphics.

Making the Pokémon Company no longer exists and end as a company wouldn’t fix the problem. It won’t make things worse. Considering what the Pokémon company does for the pokemon franchise as a whole and who makes up The Pokémon Company for the franchise including everything they own. The pokemon franchise needs the pokemon company to exist with how global the franchise is and considering that it is a multi media franchise as well.

Me and Pokémon have a rocky history. I love 1st few on gameboy. Never got in Ds ever do I have all ds system with gameboy all every Pokémon almost I think. I love all switch ones so far. Only one is open world base is bad. But heard pearl the worse one on switch so far. With some say let’s go be eh. Which can agree both eh and other 3 or so fine.
