I love that I was playing down Paradox in the discord, and almost immediately a bunch of people chimed in saying they love it! So I'll admit I was wrong. Look, sets like Rebel Crash and Shrouded Fable are not great, but for the most part just because a set is not my or your favorite does not mean that everyone feels that way.

Provided the set is not bad. The main set that has been disappointing is Shrouded Fable. This set, you have to wait for it to fall, and then it will be an investment, although the ceiling will not be that high. Obsidian Flames, the other not so good set, is still loved because of the Charizard. They will all go up, but the timing of the purchase is the key for the non-performing less desirable sets.

If you're holding for the long-term, reprints basically mean nothing. They'll only reprint sets that are popular due to people enjoying ripping them open. They only really effect short term flips

SV is the greatest era of Pokemon cards we've ever had by a lot, I'm surprised this isn't the consensus opinion yet, but it will be. Very few of us are bullish enough on the silver border era going forward.

Eh I disagree. I think it’s the best for sets having more cards in the set that are at least interesting. But the top hits so far have not been as good as swsh top hits. For me the illustration rares are my favorite aspect of S&V and it makes even weak sets awesome. BUT the top hits have in general been kind of lacking or are ruined with the stupid terra crap.

@MrGuitarfreak132 Hard disagree, I think the worst SIR is the better than everything between between Skyridge to the beginning of silver borders. If you've been actively collecting or investing a while, you might have some particular memory of SWSH being good or have internalized that narrative, because they were definitely better than the other mid era stuff. In a few years time newer hobby participants have a very convenient hard starting point with silver borders to collect, and when you scroll back through set lists, given a few more years of the Illustrations, the yellow border stuff will just look like mid-era camp.

Not to say that stuff won't continue to rise, but I don't think people have fully appreciated the future implications of silver borders and true Illustration cards. I'm genuinely surprised Pokemon cards continued to be a thing through close to 20 years of straight up garbage cards that only began to improve by Crown Zenith.

Right now might be a good time to grab them XY booster boxes. XY base, Furious fists, Breakpoint & Break Through are all down a little over the last 6 months but the rest are all up a little even Steam Siege. These could pop off at anytime but I think when the Scarlet & Violet era is over, XY will become more vintage like Black and White and we will see some big gains then.

While I agree it doesnt matter what pokemon is in the set for it to go up i do think your downplaying the sets a little. Because yes darkness ablaze, fusion stikr, and evolving skies, are all up from when you would have bought them but there is a pretty big difference between the three especially when buying larger orders. I get it doesnt matter the pokemon because it will go up especially in the short term but it does matter in the long run. So i still will invest in all the sets but go heavier into some. I think surging is the way to go, not that stellar wont do well but because i think surging is going to be that good.

Greninja aside, SWSH has much better chase cards than SV. Demand is high for Pokemon right now. Will be interesting to see whether at a later time in the future whether weak chase sets keep up the never ending momentum when it comes to value. There have been a few banger sets in SV, however there have been some poor ones stellar crown included. People buying in on pack breaks are literally just on board a hype train. The squirtle and bulba aside it's a pretty meh set at best.

@pokemattsden They had better "chase" cards because there was only one or two cards in a set that weren't offensively bad lol We're what, halfway into SV maybe? Wait until we've seen the Eevee set, the Rocket set, who knows what other sets. They can't go backward from special illustrations, and when a couple more years of them exist, they're a class of their own.
