I immediately watch and enjoy any Pokémon music reaction you have made and will make. It's so rare to see someone, who doesn't play these games, react to these amazing tracks.

When the final boss is begging you to defeat it but warns you that it will be forced to defend itself.

Theres 2 things Pokémon never fails at, even if their games are considered bad (I love them). 1. The music 2. The character designs

Toby Fox had a hand in several Scarlet and Violet songs, but this one (along with a few others) made it so obvious that he composed it in it's entirety. Everything was just so Undertale and Deltarune. But what really tipped me off as "Oh yeah, this is *definitely* Toby" was the interlude, break, and the short pause with the guitars that signaled the start of the coda. It was just so Hopes and Dreams/Save The World/Last Goodbye that I had no choice but to find it fucking incredible. Whenever I hear that one guitar soundfont (that I call the Hopes and Dreams' Guitar) I automatically am reminded of Toby.

All of the music in this final segment of Scarlet/Violet are some of my favorite tracks in the entire franchise. I will paste a segment from Toby's newsletter about his contribution to the Scarlet/Violet Soundtrack. "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have released! I had the honor of making a few songs for the game: "Tera Raid Battles", the "Academy Ace Tournament", and of course, "Battle! Zero Lab". I also composed "Area Zero", which was re-arranged by my friend Go Ichinose. I also composed a majestic theme melody for the song "Academy". Surprisingly, this ended up used as a field theme for the whole game! Though, all songs using the melody were made by other amazing composers. (I love the soft piano version that plays at night.) Anyhow, that's all I did!"

You know the track is wild when Jesse puts the glasses on. You know the track is even crazier when Jesse has to take the glasses back off before it ends.

This is the final boss theme for Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. And in a first for the series, the final boss ISN'T the champion of the Pokemon League or has anything to do with the Pokemon League. Won't get into the specifics, but this fight is the culmination of three different story arcs that lead into one of the wildest endgame sequences in Pokemon history. It's also got higher stakes than a lot of Pokemon finales, and you can really feel it with this pulse-pounding theme. A lot of people are divided on the quality of Scarlet/Violet as a whole, but it seems like most agree that they really enjoyed the ending and all of its payoffs. That melodic synthesizer is a favorite of mine from the theme, too. It almost feels like it's washing you in this refreshing, cool blanket, and it really sets the atmosphere for the final fight well. The rest of the theme is tense and makes you feel like you need to win the battle at all costs, but its that cool aura that keeps you calm, almost encouraging you to keep your wits about you and keep on going. As for Toby Fox, he composed this theme, along with what I believe to be... three or four other songs from the game? Toby Fox has been popular for a while now, even putting aside his Undertale stuff. He composed music for the last generation of Pokemon games too (Pokemon Sword/Shield), though in that case, it was one theme in the postgame. It seems like Game Freak struck a good working relationship with him, because he returned to make the music that really contributed to people's enjoyment of Scarlet/Violet's finale. That's not to say that his work is the only great music in Scarlet/Violet, though. For example, Toby Fox was responsible for the endgame music, but Teruo Taniguchi was responsible for the Team Star themes, all of which are amazing in their own right. By the way, I'm one of those millennials who stuck with Pokemon from way back when. Been around since Gen 2, and for whatever reason, my memory when it comes to Pokemon (the species, the towns, characters, etc.) is unusually sharp, even when my memory is otherwise average. Which is why I can safely say that the place you're referring to in the anime is Cinnabar Island. 100% sure.

This theme as a whole is very different from a traditional Pokémon battle theme. It honestly feels like it should not be a final boss theme for Pokémon. Very much has that intimidating feeling yet it has that up lifting feeling of “you can do it” to the player

This theme is upbeat, action packed, yet extremely tragic. Its a culmination of all the paths you took, the dreams that were achieved and destroyed, and the potential apocalypse thats at hand. Highly recommend the Ruinous Treasures theme from these games.

The quality of the games themselves has varied from game to game, but one thing Pokemon always gets right is their music.

You absolutely 150,000% must listen to Area Zero. The track alone carries the entire game on its shoulders. The entire end sequence of the game really shines above the rest, but the second the track kicks in for Area Zero, you feel like you're playing a whole new game.

Pokemon may not change very dramatically from game to game but all the music in each gen goes unreasonably hard for a game series with electric mouse as the mascot

Situation dire, story tragic, and a hopeful track to save world....yep thats a toby fox track. All jokes aside this genuinely became one of my top favorite tracks in the franchise the moment I heard it in game. Such a good track for an absolutely wild endgame final boss.

IIRC, toby fox did quite a bit of music for this game. like, I think he did the leitmotif for the main overworld music and a couple battle themes. this is actually the third gamefreak game he's composed for IIRC. he was a guest composer for sword and shield doing only one postgame theme, he was then the main (or maybe only) composer for little town hero (smaller gamefreak project nobody cared about) and then he did stuff for scarlet and violet. honestly really cool that toby fox seems to be becoming a mainstay for pokemon music.

YES. I couldn't wait for you to hear some of your requested Scarlet/Violet songs. Pokemon music is almost always great, no question, but I still remember how awesome this was to hear in game, and how excited I felt for this battle. Then that bridge where it all slows down, then works back up... it's just so, so good. Also Jesse, this song is great and all, but my favorite part of this video is where you mentioned the first Mortal Kombat movie, and the Reptile fight. That really made me smile ✌😎

It's crazy how Toby Fox started making weird hackroms for EarthBound, to making an indie with a mega blow on popularity to the point that he makes music with Game Freak. That's wild.

the funny thing is pretty much all of tobys themes in scarlet and violet have a leitmotif you can hear parts of area zero and the tera battle in sada/turos battle theme which just screams toby fox xD

This games story and music were GOD TIER. If this game had released without performance issues and in a rushed state, everyone would hail this as the best pokemon game ever made

This theme is dope, I heard it when I gave the ost a listen and this is perfect in context which I don't know if I should spoil. Love the overall feeling of the song.

The circumstances surrounding this battle and a major character's connection to your opponent are honestly really tragic, which is why there's a hint of sadness in the theme

God the ride that is Scarlet/Violet is so incredibly wild. I was not at all expecting half the stuff that went on in the story, nor was I expecting the finale to culminate in a Nier-ass looking area complete with music that sounds like Keichi Okabe wrote it (it wasn't Okabe for the record, it was Toby Fox and Go Ichinose iirc but it sounds extremely like what Okabe did with Nier). Sun/Moon will always be my favorite in the series but... damn if Scarlet/Violet didn't make a compelling argument for the spot.

I adore malevolent music like this; knowing the story behind it makes the insanity of it all hit that much harder. Everything was fucked long before your character showed up, and its a whole deal worse than you realise. Heaven or Hell.

the fact that in the text box of Sada/Turo stands Paradise protection protocol for 1 second then switched to Sada/Turo wants to ballte. That makes it really scary 😨

Whenever it may be, one of the themes you want to check out is the Area Zero theme from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. It’s the game’s last major area before the climax. An area within the game you literally run circles around before finding a reason to dive in. Once you do, it’s magical, foreboding, and powerful. I can’t suggest it enough.

This part of the game was amazing and almost seemed like a different game. The whole Area Zero portion felt like I was playing something else and even felt like maybe that part had a different game story director.

Yeah great final boss music. Probably the most intense finale for a Pokemon game. Hope they bring in Toby more in the future.

Toby Fox is an Indie Developer who was known for making music for a webcomic called Homestuck, which was incredibly popular in the early 2010s. During its runtime, Toby made a demo for Undertale and made a kickstarter for the game which ended up massively breaking the goal. In 2015 Toby Fox released Undertale to the world, which completely blew up from the Homestuck community and invaded just about every part of RU-vid and Tumblr. It was a kind of success that Toby really wasn't prepared for that kind of happened overnight. He took some time but he eventually embraced that success, using it as a means of growing connections and getting his OC into Super Smash Bros after beating Sakurai, the producer of Smash Bros, in a match. He ended up working with GameFreak on Sword and Shield (or more prominently, Scarlet and Violet) afterwards.

this song and the entire finale of this game blew every expectation I had out of the water, it is absolutely wild to me that this is from a Pokemon game

While I'm not a big fan of the last 2 pokemon generations as games, the music is still phenomenal as always. Also that guitar sound at 3:12 is as Undertale-y as it gets lmao. Didn't even know Toby Fox was involved when I first played but that part instantly reminded me of Undertale And 15:12 Undertale is one the most successful Indie game of all time

This song along with Area Zero theme is some of the best tracks they made in awhile for pokemon. One thing they nailed this time in the recent games is the music for sure.

Toby Fox composed the track, though Go Ichinose probably did some touching up. But Toby did the majority of this track, and a couple others. I requested the Area Zero and Area Zero Battle themes a little while ago, very excited for you to get to them now. They blew me away when I first heard them, and Ive been jamming to the Battle theme ever since.

Although this is far from my favourite battle theme in this game, I really appreciate what it does for the battle's atmosphere. The opening notes start after the character you're fighting catches a master ball in their hand, and initiates a battle using Pokémon that are never seen before that point, and are very unusual, with it even being challenging to guess their typings. The entire ending sequence of the game has incredible atmosphere, with some very mysterious songs that are nothing like what's heard in the rest of the franchise, and a constant otherworldly vibe hanging over everything, particularly with the "Paradox Pokémon" you're encountering throughout.

I love the very beginning and some parts in the middle embodies how in awe some people are while fighting this boss I personally think as a twist final battle in Pokémon they were the best

Toby Fox was indeed "not that big of a deal" and Undertale was indeed a full-on indie creation! But from how good and popular the game turned out, Nintendo found Toby Fox as well, and they brought Sans into Smash, alongside a remix of Megalovania. After that, they had him write one song for Pokémon Sword/Shield, and now a bigger part of the soundtrack of Scarlet/Violet. It's really incredible (and amazing!)

I thought it was playing Battle With Seymour for a sec, which is always a good comparison

Toby Fox came up with a few motifs for this game that the other composers completely ran with and he was shocked. He used them in this song, but he didnt expect others to use them too

Your comment on feeling like the song is a mix of old and new era of music is not wrong. Sada (Pasada = past in spanish) and Turo (Futuro = future in spanish) represent past and future in the game respectively, Sada looking like a cavewoman and Turo looking like an android. Your battle with them is pretty much a clash of time as her/his time machine is going off in the background as they use it to bring pokemon from different eras into the current world (depending on the version of the game you have it'll be future pokemon or past pokemon, robotic and prehistoric) for you to battle until you win and shutdown the time machine.

This is in my top 5 tracks in all of Pokemon, I love S/V's leitmotifs

The best way I can describe this track is as such: Controlled Chaos. It’s all over the place, but with a sense of purpose to it still. And it’s heavy enough that it still gives me flashbacks to my first run of this game, woefully underprepared for this fight. I went in about 5 or 6 levels down from where I should’ve been… I chugged 5 max revives just to get through

It's funny how this is so different yet so Pokemon

Scarlet and Violet were pretty hit or miss overall, but everything involving Area Zero is *perfect,* there’s just no other way to describe it. It feels otherworldly like the Distortion World, the stakes are high like with Team Flare, the visuals are superb and the last boss is a hell of a twist like in Legends Arceus, the final battle is difficult as fuck like in Colosseum, the music fucking *slays* like in BW/B2W2 (and the rest of the series tbf) It just combines the absolute best aspects of every high Pokémon’s had over the years and it works so perfectly well as a sequence

My Favourite Theme

It's interesting that you mention nostalgic elements of this track, as this game's plot revolves around time travel. Just goes to show how incredibly Toby Fox is able to weave narrative into his compositions.

? ... At the beginning I could swear I was actually listening to the Seymour fight from Final Fantasy X. Also it's amazing how far the Pokémon game music has come. Say what you will about this pair of games, but the music sounds great.

The Pokémon these are insane this gen they’re so good! My favorite has to be the ruinous legendary theme. The quartet are based off the 4 agents of destruction in ancient Chinese mythos and you feel the impending doom

Toby Fox has composed for multiple games made by Game Freak.

Toby Fox made some of the melodies for the game but the actual compositions of the tracks he worked on were made by other composers, and many of the melodies were remixed into multiple tracks. He gets a lot of the credit for this OST (deservedly so) but it was a lot more of a collaborative effort that is largely not discussed, taking away from the other composers who put in great work on this game.

It's not the first time Alpha the Divine Beginning and End is suggested to you from RU-vid (in the screencapture). I HIGHLY suggest that music.

I always thought that the way this song is structured reminds me of Entrusting this world to idols ~ Idolatrize world from Touhou 17. Which doesn't surprise me considering Touhou is a big inspiration for Toby Fox

When the leitmotif hits

There are SO many leitmotifs fron the game wound into this that I wish you had listened to others beforehand. Like with Volo's theme, you missed out on a LOT of symbolism. You should play this game! A lot of really good music by many different composers, a fun region to explore, great characters and story (Famitsu magazine gave it Best Scenario and Best Character for Arven), and some solid mons to find. But! If you want to play it, *do not read spoilers*. Go into it as fresh as you can for maximum impact. However! I will give some thoughts below that will by necessity contain spoilers even though I'll be vague. The ending of this game is *intense*. I've followed this series from the beginning, and yeah the story has gotten to me a few times (in particular when someone leaves at the end of SM and when someone...hm let's say "false accusation" to avoid spoilers in PLA), but the ending of this game has lived in my brain since i beat it in February. I can't get it out of my head. The character you meet is so much more than they appear, and they deserved so much better than they got. It's an utterly tragic ending and i just...want to know that character is ok. They don't even have to come back. I just want to know that they're safe and could make their dream come true. I wanted so badly to intervene. We find things out about someone we never meet, but who's influenced our journey from the beginning, and it leaves us with conflicting emotions for them that are quite complicated. And for the character we do meet, well...I can't get them out of my head. We don't know them for long but we're left with an utterly melancholic feeling for them...

This theme (and Area Zero in general) really reminds me of Falcom music and games.

Honestly your pronunciation of Sada doesn't matter. I personally use sah-da, but she and Turo have only appeared in a game with no voice acting and have yet to be mentioned verbally in the anime or any official outside material, so...
