All I could think about doing after my playthrough of Pokemon FireRed was how badly I wanted to beat my boyfriend in a pokemon battle. I put him to the task of figuring out how to make my dream a reality, and I was not disappointed. It's safe to say that after making this video, Pokemon Stadium Date Night became an instant classic for this household.

PLEASE do a soul link nuzlocke for a date night. It would be hilarious. You could also step it up by using randomizers or harder ROMS like the Drayano hacks

I agree with the soul link nuzlocke, but not the stepping up; because she’s still green in understanding the basic type chart’s. If she goes into roms, I don’t feel like she’s survive!!

Colosseum is definitely harder, but there were some qualities to Gale of Darkness that were slightly more annoying to deal with. Like how Pokemon caught can be lost if you don't win the battle.

I like how the thumbnail looks like Taryn is looks like the competitive Go getter Pokemon Trainer who loves her Pokemon and has the "With the Power Friendship we will win" while Nick looks like he has that Derpy Cute Chill Smugness of a Veteran Gym Leader but will Beat the shit out of you with Cold Blooded Numbers and Stats and Curb stomp you with his Charizard lol

Playing with rentals in pokemon stadium is the equivalent of being hugged when having a winter coat on: I can see where this is going, it kind of feels ok, but i am pretty sure that i am experiencing this in the worst possible way.

Not entirely sure if this transfers 100% to stadium but i can help explain the gen 1 and gen 3 differences. So gen 1 was super basic and had a "special" stat rather than a "special attack" and "special defense", so "special" was blocked by "special", meaning high "special" users like alakazam (one of the only psychic types with a crazy high speed) was stupid strong. It didn't help that "speed" also calculated crit rate and the only psychic counter of ghost was gengar who was part poison, meaning alazakam destroyed gengar. Gen 2 did split special into "special attack" and "special defense" but gen 3 added EVs and IVs, basically hidden math values that effected the growth rates of each stat, meaning that certain pokemon could be trained to be really good special attackers or special defenders.

Honestly with this you guys should play Pokemon colosseum/ XD gale of Darkness or Pokemon Battle Revolution as its a great way for battle prowess and with more modern mechanics before gen 6.

Yes FireRed and LeafGreen where made during the Gameboy Advance era around when Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald came out. Hence why their considered part of generation 3 as they had all of the updated mechanics. The biggest mechanic shift was probably the special split during gen 2. Gen 1's special stat was just one stat and not split into offense and defense. So Pokemon like Alakazam where extremely strong as they had a very high special for both offense and defense.

My best friend and I used to stay up all night at his house on his big brother's N64 playing Pokemon Stadium 2 and those are some of my fondest memories. We also had the rule where you had to leave the room while the other person picks.

I confess that I'm watching today for the sheer joy in your voices. I've never played or owned a Pokemon game or for that matter a Nintendo device. I had a Sega Mega Drive II, plus PlayStations 3 and 4 but mainly PC. Thirty years ago I was pretty good at Sonic the Hedgehog. Today not so much. All my fast twitch muscles appear to have taken early retirement 🤣🤣🤣 Perhaps before Tarny gets too old she needs to experience Sonic too?

My experience with Pokemon Stadium was funny looking back on it I have allergy induced asthma, and one year when I was a young kid it was particularly bad and I was hospitalized due to it The hospital had some kind of break room with some console and a TV in it or something, because I remember going in a room and playing the game almost every day I was there lol Think it was also my first time actually playing a Pokemon game and not just watching the show and owning a couple cards

Man, it's SO interesting hearing someone who just had her first multiplayer matches in Pokemon describe EXACTLY what it's about. I've tried to explain this whole thinking ahead, trying to predict the opponent deal so many times, but I never quite managed to teach it well. Pokemon's mechanics are super simple, with the complexities coming from trying to outsmart eachother. Which becomes ten times more complex when both players know eachother. It's also the reason why the AI is usually so dumb in these games. It's hard making opponents smart in a game that lives on predictions because the line towards it feeling like a cheater is very thin. (a good example is actually in Gen1, where moves are chosen (by strong opponents) depending on the mon you send out, not the mon that just switched out.

Seeing the UI of Stadium makes me wonder why the mainline still insist like it's still in handheld - so many buttons could've been used to one-click menu options like moves in particular to be assigned on the C-Pad/R-Stick/Right D-Pad.
