Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2 was basically the postgame for the first 2 Gens. Playing it without those games is like trying the Battle Frontier without being able to build a team for it.

That explains why it was so hard for me as a kid. I never knew that you could transfer pokemon over. I remember SO vividly being like 5 or 6 RAGEING at the Giovanni battle

I think it’s worth it if you want to play Pokémon stadium but you also want a game that’s a little deeper and provides free roam and exploration and rpg elements like leveling up and speaking to NPCs

I mentioned this in the Stadium 2 video but I will do so again here, it’s entirely possible to beat this game rental only & this one doesn’t have the Challenge Cup of the sequel so its even more possible to do so and this entry also has manipulatable RNG through Save States so you can basically 1 Hit KO Pokemon if you really wanted to (with some exceptions due to type immunities).

I grew up having Stadium and Stadium 2 with a transfer pak and most of the GB games so the release to the Switch was exciting to me until I realized just how limited it is without the GB games

What a shame most of pokemon included inside the game are garbage... especially when your oponement have the perfect set for their mons. Well whatever, time to buy stadium and transfer pak on N64 for 200€ or more and enjoy full experience 😁 Trolling apart, i am abusing save state to balance bad pokemon set.

I got an idea for a DLC/postgame content for Scarlet/Violet or the next maingames: White City (The place/city where Pokémon stadium takes place) as an actual normally visitable city in the maingames where you can walk normally like in the rest of the game, with all the challenges being included (gym leader castle, stadium etc.)

what bugs me more about the Stadium is that it's not something that comes for free, we have to pay for switch online AND the expansion pack to have access to it. they not making a Pokemon Home integration to the game is borderline ridiculous, it's chopping 50% of the game AND making it an extremely difficult game. Honestly, i'd just never release the games on the switch if it was to come on this state.

I can agree wholy except to the extent of Pokemon Home. Very specific pokemon and moves can only be used for that specific game (like Blue, Red or Yellow, but you can't transfer Pokemon from Silver/Gold to the classics) Home wouldn't solve Stadium's problem at all, it needs to be thr classic titles.

It's not money that's a factor but making sure the actual pokemon integrate with thr classic ones and their movesets. It's a pain in the ass to account for so much, so simplest thing to do is GB integration with classic games via NSO. Reason I mentioned LuigiBlood's finding was to being to light possible connectivity if nintendo wanted to integrate that

@@xDensetsu_ Also keep in mind the pokemon stats calculations was changed in gen 3, so they would have to scale the pokemons back to the way it was back then, also pokemons in gen 1 didnt learn as many moves as they do now, the best option is to add red and blue

There was something like this for the wii on 4 gen, it was battle revolution or something like that, and it was not that successful, which maybe is why nintendo discarded this idea for good.

Eh I got an n64 and Pokémon yellow and crystal so I can play pokemon stadium 1 and 2 and fighting with my trained pokemon instead of the rentals. I grew up playing with these games, and using ur own is sooo much better then the rentals, that way u can use pokemon u want with the moves u want

I've never beaten "round 2" of this game (never tried), but as an 8 year old who didn't even know the whole type chart I was able to beat the whole game and mewtwo with rental pokemon. I don't think it's really that hard. Maybe less fun.

Since being released we've played with just being able to use rentals and finding it a fun challenge. Pokémon I would have used like Charizard, don't have great movesets as a rental, so finding alternatives has been great! Arcanine for fire blast and stats

you could easily bring out an adapter that is connected to the switch via usb so that you can use your gameboy games. Sad that Nintendo/Gamefreak don't do that.

I did it with registered pokemon only lost 2 or 3 times mostly to miss hacks on Blaine Giovanni and Lance. I do battle competitively so for casuals this would be hard but if you have in-depth battle knowledge and played competitive at any level it is quite easy to steam roll the gym challenge even with rentals.

Yea I'd you are competitive I would argue you are like the 5% that doesn't have a problem for but for others half the fun is importing your pokemon, so that was the point I wanted to make.

I played it this way growing up myself because I didn't have a gameboy and "I'm not buying a pokemon you can't play" (despite explaining the N64 could play it with the transfer pak i had.) so I learned to use rentals better, and strategize. Yeah I get it's cut, but until we get the pokemon games in the gameboy areas, just try your hardest you know? I did actually beat the game as a kid, I am comp now but I wasn't back then because I was 8. If 8 year old me could beat pokemon stadium others can too.

surprised they didn’t release a stadium ultimate. with everything up to like gen 5/6. especially with home access so you can load in your pokemon easily. it wouldn’t be hard. make some mini games, bring back the old ones. let friends load into your stadium city etc. and of course battle stadiums and gym leaders etc

@@Kelphelp Yeah i agree, but this plays into their lack of creativity. it’s recycling old ideas, with current systems they put in place. like pokemon home/transferring pokemon. the stadium idea has already been done as well, the pokemon designs are 3 dimensional now in all the games, as well as the moves. honestly it’s be the least amount of work needed for a huge payout

I still have pokemon stadium 1 and poke coliseum+ gale of darkness. With the cartridge inserts for both console and controller. Ill probably never sell them. Have them in a safe in storage. Along with cards from the 90s and early 2000s. Gotta keep em all

If you aren't goof with soldering it's very possible but does take quite a bit to do so. Servicing these items takes time as well, and actually I went through a snag recording BECAUSE my super game boy failed after I recorded. Had to recap it and add new capacitors and works like new! Crazy some of these are tipping 20 to 30 years

@@Kelphelp I have the original Gameboy Gameboy color and the advanced. All basically new. There isn't a game I own I didn't take care of. I bet some are worth a little money now such as super Mario 64 and the yellow cartridge of donkey Kong 64. But I don't know if I could part with them. It's like a history of my childhood lol I even had the see through green 64 but it got zapped by lightning and was smoking.

It's not a question of you did or didn't take care of em but when they need to be serviced. Since they are moving parts inside they need to be maintained over 20-25 years, so it goes for the battery situation. Alot of em are like that.

There’s no point in playing Pokemon Stadium 1 or 2 without being about to use the game-pack feature. Fortunately, on RetroArch on iPhone XR, I’m about to use my GB and GBC data. However, the GB tower doesn’t work. The main thing is that I can use my Pokemon. I play them from time to time. Still enjoyable up to this day!

So much potential wasted, and with so many games nowadays... like only 10% of the remasters or remakes are actually good, i dont understand, so many years people wating for this to come... and then "this" comes. With Pokémon’s 30th anniversary now less than 2 years away, I think it’d be a good idea for Nintendo to give us 30th anniversary editions of Pokémon Red and Blue! The games would be mostly the same as before, but with Game Boy Color graphics, and the Game Corner would remain intact, albeit with Voltorb Flip instead of the slot machines! You gotta work out ways for rereleases of certain games to be possible! Those rereleases would also be compatible with Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2 on NSO!

It might be a long while before we ever see something like this, but I do hope an SP Version of Pokemon Stadium comes around to mitigate some of the glaring flaws since there's no way to use any of your own. I wonder if they'd ever release the Gameboy Pokemon titles on that channel?

All they had to do was change the GB tower to an emulator of the gen 1 games as a bonus feature. Its incredibly common to release emulated old games with remasters. Change the 4 cartridge slots to emulators for Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green.

You use controller 1 to pick 1p then 2p. After that both controllers work individually to select Pokémon teams and battle. Hope that helps?

well put. i was considering dropping the 50 bucks for the nso expansion specifically to play pkmn stadium, but i won't be doing it because of the state of the game. i mean with the classic games being on nso idk why they won't just put pkmn red blue and yellow on the gameboy classic and try to get some integration going on between the nso games (probably because money) which brings me to wonder why they would release such a half baked product anyways. im just glad i have my original hardware to play stadium, though my old gb color died on me a few months ago so im gonna have to find another one of those. would have been so nice to be able to play and enjoy this game on the switch, and to be able to play against friends. oh well, RIP.

keep in mind that the transfer pack was a direct connection thing. if a similar function was intended for this version, they may not have worked out the logistics enough to make it work. and further, they mat bring it back in stadium 2 if they release that on the switch online store. just my idea as to why the transfer pack function was not included in this version, keep in mind that i might be wrong here.

Well to be honest they discontinued 3ds last March so you even buy the old games using the store. And unless you have put new batteries in your old cartridges they are all dead like mine. Even my ruby and Sapphire are dead. All data erases when the cartridge dies and can't hold a file.

It took me a long ass time to beat BOTH rounds of both Stadium games with my own Pokemon. No way I will be able to do it again with rookie level rentals. With all the money Nintendo takes from Pokemon Home, Online and Expansion, you'd think they would have figured out how to at least use Pokemon from Home.

This game would be way too easy if we access to older Pokémon. I think Nintendo has revived the challenge of a Pokémon game. There are other games that are compatible with Pokémon Home. I loved how hard the Pokémon games were for me as a kid; it was a challenge and I enjoyed it. Idk. It would be nice to have a remastered vs of the game and bring a bit more modern life to it. But idk. The nostalgia is there and that’s why I’m here.

@@Kelphelp Well, unless you put custom firmware onto your 3ds or 2ds and then get the h shop which dose have the pokemon bank and transfer for the 3ds you can use to transfer the pokemon from the pokebank on the 3ds line to pokemon home. @Kelphelp yes also the computer has at times unfair advantage. For example, in the stadium battles, there a Tentacruel that's super powerful. Also, Persian for whatever reason is super strong in various battles even in battles when the rental pokemon have type advantage. Sometimes the computer gets the first move over the player Sometimes unfairly. It's a mess and frustrating.

Actually.... I was able to beat it on stream. The best advice I can give on this is pay attention to the stats and moves of the Pokemon. I had Pokemon like Jinx doing really well despite not all her moves being at its peak. It was more than enough to make up for the moveset it had. Though, same thing can't be said for, say, Alakazam, while a great Pokemon overall, is so lack luster due to the move set. I didn't have any problems.... until the Master Cup on the Poke Cup. There's a trainer there that has so many Psychics that I had to reset TWICE to beat it. Finally was able to, but wow the rentals were killing me. Outside from that, it is doable.

@@merabledawnspark5827 yeah i had trouble on master cup too. A lot of people whining about the rentals though are scared to try. The game def gets easier as you learn more…that goes for any game, really. I’ve beat mewtwo four times now, its only gotten easier each time and i’m only a mediocre pokemon fan

What people do need to note about the Stadium games, at least for the N64, that the Stadium games were more or less a post end game content since it gives you a lot to do but when you can't do that since you can transfer the pokemon from the gameboy games to the N64 well you are playing the game on hard mode with rentals. While that is not bad but something else that should be noticed is that there the rental pokemon moves change depending on what cups or when you go to the gym leader castle the moves are different and this makes some pokemon better than there fully evolved forms. So, this can be fun if you just want to use rentals but people are missing out on what it was like to transfer your pokmeon the ways the 90's kids had to do it.

That's a good way to put it, Stadium was a supplemental title to Blue & Red, and without that experience it does bring alot less content than expected

@@Kelphelp Yeah pretty much and if they bring over Stadium 2 you will have the same issues and what Nintendo and Game Freak need to do is either be able to emulate the gameboy games so that way you can transfer them or the other thing to is have a cable or a device for the switch dock that allows you to do what Stadium was made for.

Well technically upscaling isn't bad if scaled at its proper integer. The UltraHDMI on my 64 is upscaling the 480p image but it's in an Integer scaling so it fits 1080p (and cuts a bit off) very nicely. It's the smoothing that makes the image quality look worse.

That's Def upscaled from the original resolution to 1080p, and scales so nicely!!! Not much smoothing other than the Anti Aliasing the N64 naturally has
